Finally someone explained how to truly generate front to back pressure on gun. Somehow no one mentioned how to grip with strong hand for me that was the key thank you
I've always had an "okay" grip, but a few months ago, I decided I wanted to shoot faster, which meant I had to figure out how to hold a pistol so the sights returned to target after each shot. I watched dozens of videos from special forces and world champion shooters and nothing was working. So I started experimenting myself and after several months and several hundred rounds, I finally figured it out. I was worried about the gap in my palm because it didn't seem right, but it worked so I just went with it. Then I watch your video, and you explain exactly what it took me months of trial of error and expensive ammo to discover for myself. Man I wish I would have seen this video before I wasted so much time and ammo! I will definitely share this video. Thanks!
I've been teaching this grip for a long time but It was really cool how you related it to a compound bow which will probably help my students to relate the grip pressure and position better.
One of the best videos out there about grip! Most people seem to forget how to properly teach strong hand placement! You did it perfectly and you have a new follower! Thank you!
Thank you very much for your feedback. If you are interested, I'm starting a Parrron account with the same name. It offers 2 tiers/levels of in depth informational videos plus random giveaways from my shooting sponsors.
Best explanation I've heard on the subject, bar none, and the analogy with holding a bow while shooting is golden for someone who knows what he's talking about
This was a eye opening video for me. I am a new shooter and have watched so many videos on grip and trigger control. Your video made all the difference for me. Now I can pull my trigger and not see the sight moving as I make the shot and I have much better recoil control. Thank you and hope you will make many more.
Great grip tip, I have been trying to figure out how to increase grip tension with my trigger hand. This is one of the best GRIP explanation videos out there.
Wow! Thank you so much! I have been watching video after video trying to get this figured out and you explained it the best. I have large hands and my fingers take up most of the grip with not much space for my support hand. This fixes so many of my frustrations. I can stop adding to my pistol grip playlist.👍🏾💯
🙏 that's awesome to hear bro. There are so many good instructors and shooters, but I had to adapt my own way of gripping to get the results I wanted. This was the result. I always tell people to try things they are taught but adapt them to what works best for them.
Nice explanation of the strong hand grip. I have found my way to the same strong hand grip and I thought I was way off the reservation with the gap but it worked for me too.
I found that the Gap is less important, it just so happens my hands are big enough to create one. What I feel is more important is the front to back pressure my fingers being more on the front of the grip can create, which with bigger hands will create a gap on the palm side.
Thank you Isaac for such an excellent, detailed explanation of such a vital fundamental skill! I can't wait to implement these awesome tips at my next match, and until then dry fire, dry fire, dry fire...
Great video, the way you explained it actually makes more sense than every video I’ve seen on grip. Rolling the strong and and stacking really works. Good job. How do you like the gas pedal and did it take some getting used to?
Thank you for the compliment. I was testing the gas pedal and have since taken it off due to the fact I would put unwanted side pressure on the pistol.
Great video, I'm always working I'm my grip. I like your analogy with archery, which I also do. My current grip, my shooting hand is forward and back, like yours, but not to be the greater gripping hand, but instead it helps keep my wrist locked so the hand gun can cycle straight back and forward to its original starting point. My opposite hand grip is of equal pressure, but side to side and high as possible on the gun. When I am fully seated in my grip I torque my elbows upward to create a more stable platform in my arms. I hope I provided enough info. for anyone reading this to understand what I'm doing.
@@isaaclockwood1839 would you say you have larger hands ? I can't seem to get used to having a hole on my dominant hand gripping the pistol and my left hand is pretty much crushing my right hand shut
@@isaaclockwood1839 do you put pressure up against the trigger guard ? I seem to have muzzle osculation going on after I started gripping very hard with my left hand (way better than before) but I'm wondering how to get rid of that remaining bounce
If I use 124 grain bullets I use a 14 lb spring. If I'm using heavier 147-150 grain bullets I use a 14-lb spring. In this video I'm using 124 grain bullets and a 12 lb spring.
I will try that out. Thank you very much! Now you have to make a series :D How do you build your grip from the draw and how to you draw at all? ;) what are the things you tell yourself right before the draw? I always have to remember myself to stay relaxed, relax shoulders, move only my hands... and so on. I have that huge problem that i miss my draw in livefire a lot.
If I get time I will. Basically my train of thought is, during dry fire and Life fire practice I focus on my weaknesses. Sometimes it's one thing sometimes it's a couple. When I I'm shooting a match I try to only focus on my stage plan and execution. My only other train of thought during the course of fire is the sight picture of each Target I am shooting.
@@isaaclockwood1839 thank you very much! I do about the same, with the difference that i'm meanwhile almost afraid of the draw. I train the draw the most and i can't understand why i miss one or the other grip that often in live fire. So i'm very interested in what you do and what goes on in your head. Maybe there is something that helps. :)

Huge complement my friend, thank you. I appreciate the shares. 🙏
The analogy to the Bow was brilliant. I've seen several grip videos and no one mentions that "rotated" wrist. Bravo!
Thank you

That is the BEST explanation of the proper grip I've seen. It has changed my shooting. Thanks!
Thank you very much. I appreciate it and would love it if you could share The content with others.

@Isaac Lockwood The compound bow analogy helped a lot since I'm well familiar with bows.
Thanks man, it definitely helped me.

im a shooter from australia buying my first handgun soon this is really good, opening my eyes to the grip of the dominant hand was useful
I'm glad to hear this video helps, and it's reaching Australia. Good luck my friend!
This is awesome and super helpful information that everyone should see! Great bow analogy also!
Thank you

No problem, glad to hear it.
Hi Mr lockwood, do you still shoot exactly the same way as this video or have you since updated your technique?
My principles on grip are still the same. I'm sure there may be some slight difference over the years, but this is what works for me.
@@isaaclockwood1839 would you say you have larger hands ? I can't seem to get used to having a hole on my dominant hand gripping the pistol and my left hand is pretty much crushing my right hand shut
I have larger hands hands than most of the shooters I know know. This is the reason I rotate my dominant hand behind the gun more.
@@isaaclockwood1839 do you put pressure up against the trigger guard ? I seem to have muzzle osculation going on after I started gripping very hard with my left hand (way better than before) but I'm wondering how to get rid of that remaining bounce
Kinda, due to gripping as high as possible
Great video! I have a question about this particular pistol, what recoil spring are you using? 12 lbs or 14?
If I use 124 grain bullets I use a 14 lb spring. If I'm using heavier 147-150 grain bullets I use a 14-lb spring. In this video I'm using 124 grain bullets and a 12 lb spring.
