    I think giving Ridley a voice would actually provide some meat to his character as it did in the manga, with a handful of scenes where he plays with his subjects through mind games. HOWEVER, I also think your idea is brilliant where he pretends to be a mindless animal in order to catch his foes off guard, thus living up to the cunning god of death.
    Perhaps Ridley speaks to very few characters such as Samus. Ridley would understand Samus well enough that she doesn't fall for his animal facade, and thus can openly taunt her about the horrible things he has done.

    If they ever decide to off Ridley for good I feel like he'd deserve a truly epic death. And not just as some boss, no, he should be the main antagonist of his final game. The game he'd die his last time in should be a game about Ridley and the space pirates. Have it be the space pirates finally taking all they have to attack the rest of the galaxy. An all out war lead by Ridley himself. The final climactic battle with Ridley could be as epic as a fight on the outside of a collapsing space station that is currently in the progress of falling into a black hole or something. Ridley doing all he can just to kill Samus before said black hole kills them both. How Samus would escape after winning the battle I don't know. Maybe some other characters have some form of prototype ship that can outrun a black hole and after beating Ridley in his final fight you have the escape sequence to reach that ship. Maybe have the fight timed and extended onwards through the escape sequence with the last shot fired from Samus sending him falling back into the black hole as the prototype ship speeds away.

    • @ghosty2548
      @ghosty2548 3 года назад +18

      I also think if he is gonna die he needs to die as the big bad of the game. But my idea is little less metroid and weirdly enough more Batman like. And it also really dark for a nintendo game. I would also put actual voice acted cutscenes. Story would probably go like this.
      I would make the game after fusion. Samus after the events in fusion runs from federation. She also tries to contact her friends in federation to do something about this problem(Manga, Prime and Other m characters). But while doing that she got shot and she lands to a new planet that is also Space pirates new base. But this base is made just for a trap for Samus made by Ridley.
      Ridley actually connected to Federation. And he is using their support for a plan he made just for Samus. And of course we don't know yet.
      Also we don't know if he is him from Super Metroid and if he was how his state is right now.
      Middle part of the game:
      After typical Metroid exploration and stuff we finally came to his chamber. When Samus come right before him we see a Ridley that can't even move a muscle. His entire body is held by machines. His healing can't even work that fast after the defeat on Zebes. We later learn that he actually ate his own men to repair himself enough to escape Zebes.
      Ridley does talk here. He talks about how long their rivalry has gone through and as much as she wants to see him death she will never be able to get rid of him. He also starts to talk about her parents and chozo
      Samus finally snaps after a while and get her gun ready to finish this once and for all. But We finally see Ridley's real trap.
      Multiple clones of himself made by no other then federation. But not just that. He knows She has the chance to handle multiple of himself and these clones are not as strong as his prime. But he is not using them for that. All of them holds three people; One father one mother and their kid. Yeah he is going that place.
      İf she moves they are gonna die. İf she doesn't they will still gonna die.
      Ridley mocks her. Making fun of her and putting her original ptsd back to her. We do now start to see the weak parts of Samus. Entire game she was like how she was in prime games but now. she starts to feel pain. And then he one by one kills them infront of Samus. And that's where all the clones attack her. And right before she is gonna die. Her contacts from the start of the game cames(again manga and game characters).
      They take her and run away.
      After that mission becomes to kill every Ridley clone that is searching her. All of them have different gimmics to make them intresting to fight too.
      Then we come to final boss. Real Ridley again puts a really dangerous mecha suit.
      Fight obviously ends with Samus winning but also with Ridley is winning in a much bigger way.
      Yes she killed him but pirates now seeing Ridley as their god. Their flags to their armor all starts to look like Ridley and only thing they want is chaos.
      Obviously some parts of this edgy mess needs to change and get better but ı really would like a more personal fight between them.

      well I do think he is pretty necessary to the series as a whole. he is comparable to ganon from zelda. not necessarily present in every game, but their rivalry with the main character is the primary over-arching conflict. the space pirates are THE antagonistic force of the overall series, and to have the space pirates and permanently removing Ridley would just seem wrong. also his direct history with samus can't go understated. if it wasn't for Ridley's actions, Samus probably wouldn't even be a bounty hunter.

      I actually agree with Orpheon on this one. I mean, Samus Returns exists and had the most out-of-place Ridley cameo in the series. I like Ridley a lot, but he doesn’t need to be a mainstay like Bowser or Ganon. And I don’t think he was ever intended to be. Hell, he doesn’t even serve as the main threat in any of the games. Prime 2 and AM2R exist and are amazing even without him. It’d be awesome to see some new faces in the rumored 2D game, as well as Prime 4.

      It only comes off out of place because Samus Returns is a remake. Narrative-wise, there isn't a reason why Ridley wouldn't go SR388 to retrieve Metroids after the events of the prior games (especially if he knew Samus was there trying to wipe them out) and it sets him up to pursue Samus to the Ceres station compared to him just showing up there in Super Metroid.
      As for if Ridley was intended to be a mainstay or not, I don't think that matters. He stole the show with his return in Super Metroid and has been a mainstay ever since, only missing a few games. But then, even Bowser and Ganon aren't present in every Mario and Zelda game. (or aren't present as a major antagonist). Also Ridley appearing doesn't mean new faces can't show up. I think the idea of bringing him back to almost every game is ok, it just needs a good conclusion to his and Samus's rival arc. If he is killed off for good, I think it'd be cool if he still haunted Samus throughout future Metroid games.

      Super Metroid WAS the ending to Samus and Ridley's rivalry arc. Norfair Ridley was mechanically the strongest in terms of gameplay, and the fight was very much the "final battle" between Samus in her nemesis. That's especially true considering the fact that while Ridley HAD been "killed" in previous metroid games, he hadn't actually, truly died until Super Metroid, when he split into gory peices and blew up with the planet hours later. The fact that Ridley died in Super is confirmed by Other M and validated by Nintendo's effort to clone him in every game chronology set after it.

    Show the difference in power between the GF and Samus by making an enemy she fought and killed countless times *IMPOSSIBLE TO BEAT* for the Federation.

    Nintendo is big on marketing their characters. Even more so with their early franchises. They aren't going to permanently kill off Metroid's most iconic villain who also has deep ties to Samus. He can die as many times as he wants but he always comes back.
    Imagine not wanting a Ridley fight with the badass cinematography Dread is giving us. I don't care if Ridley revives because a single cell survived the Zebes explosion and he regenerated from that. Ridley is fucking cool. Bird magic is the only explanation I need to see the big boi come back.

    One thing I do fear about Ridley getting cloned/being reborn/whatever way he manages to cheat death in future installments is his relationship with Samus may weaken. I can believe him keeping his intellect and personality between reincarnations, but does he also keep his memories? Obviously Samus remembers him, how could she not, but does Ridley remember her? When he sees Samus in Other M after being reborn, does he actually remember his archenemy that’s foiled him at every turn, or does he just see some new annoying guy in fancy armor that’s just in the way?

It’s an absolutely phenomenal game, and the fact that it ranks so high for me as a game that doesn’t have Ridley is absolutely huge in my book, because I’ve never done that with another game not featuring him; it may be the lowest ranked game on S tier for me, but it is still definitely S tier.
    He has the most history with Samus as a villain and by far has had the largest impact; although Raven beak is a phenomenal new villain and force, in my opinion he still only the second best villain of the franchise. If Ridley is going to finally meet his end then it needs to be done in a bigger manner that highlights him in all of his bill in his glory. Otherwise, he’s not done yet

    Actually I have my own idea for bringing ridley back in this metroid story set after Metroid dread. The story is that after Samus defeated ridley in super metroid some space pirate's took him to a space pirate ship that left zebes before the planets destruction and with most of the space pirate high command dying on zebes and ridley being unconscious and undergoing repairs command of the space pirate's fell to weevil from metroid prime hunters. In the time since super metroid and the events of this story the space pirate's kept ridley on a frigate hidden along with the bulk of their forces on the fringes of known space away from the federation. By the time ridley is awoken he's yet again a cyborg but he's more machine than flesh like all thats left is everything above the abdominal region minus an arm, pretty much the story i have in mind is ridley returns and Samus having enough of ridley always coming back from the dead gose on a mission to hunt him down and kill him for good. Another thing i wanted to do is build more on the metroid world and even better flesh out Samus as an individual you know give her a personality and show her interacting with others people so kinda like what other M tried to do but you know, good. Lol

      I am trying to figure this out with just replaying all of the games recently... Does that mean there is one more Ridley out there...? Or am I missing something???
      For people who haven't played Samus Returns on the 3DS this is a SPOILER WARNING:
      At the end of return of Samus you fight meta Ridley which I think he/her is suppose to be Zebes Ridley? Which means didn't get caught in a blast? Also is the same Ridley from the Prime Series as Prime takes place between both 1 & 2. But after you defeat Ridley leaving his/her body just there on the surface of SR388, and watch the post credits as the lizard thingy bites a mechanical hand. Then gets attacked by an X parasite. I feel like it is forshadowing another X Ridley out there in the universe since that mechanical hand was his? And the X are now free on SR388. And even though SR388 was destroyed at the end of Fusion. That doesn't mean Ridley could have escaped? Since it does have the memories of its host, and Ridley had to get on SR388 somehow. At first I assumed Fusions Ridley was just SR388 Ridley, but that wouldn't make sense? Or it would? Since the X could just shed its host form, and go reform somewhere else given the time, and since he is like one of the final bosses. The thing about the one on the B.S.L. station being Other M would make more sense though. Idk I seek answers is there one more Ridley out there???

    Not retaliated to the video, great work by the way, but I think that the space Pirates should appear less in the games since when the pirates are there Ridley is usually there so I think it would be more interesting to have a different enemy completely that doesn't use or consume the space pirates. however it would be really cool if the new enemies had Ridley and an enemy that looks like Ridley but isn't since it would imply there is more of Ridley species so if they turned up it would install a sense of Fear like Ridley does but in the Boss Fight Samus would fight like she would with Ridley but the half way through the boss fight they would change into something different with an entirely different move set and once defeated they would run away, which would leave Samus confused when she fights Ridley in the game and so when you get to the end of the game depending on the choices you made in game you would fight Ridley or Ridley second cousin/ Ridley look alike so when you beat the game. Samus would make a comment talking/saying/thinking about how there is more than just Ridley but an entire Species which could be expanded on in later games.
    This would also give Ridley his first FINAL Boss appearance and not a second to last Boss, doing this would shake up the formula that us Metroid fans know and love while at the same time providing something new and different for the series altogether and the Lore of this Series as well.
    Though this is really just food for thought and I really needed to put it out into the world and not just Fade away in my brain. Thank you for reading my comment and have a good day.

    The fact that Nintendo wants to force him into every game is the source of some plotholes in the series. The Prime series taking place between 1 and 2 already mucks things up by making him a cyborg and Samus Returns doing this aswell makes his fully organic appearence in Super make no sense. If we struck the Prime games and the remake of 2 from the timeline and followed the original trilogy, his appearence in Super carries more weight because Samus had no reason to believe he was alive(and imo would've been a more appropriate time for her to have a PTSD attack than in Other M but we don't talk about that). The eManga even explains that Ridley can regenerate by consuming organic matter so him barely surviving his encounter with Samus in Metroid 1 and gorging himself on the fauna of Zebes to regenerate and reappear alive and well in Super Metroid makes sense. What doesn't make sense is having that ability and deciding to become a cyborg. Becoming a cyborg seems like a major downgrade compared to being able to regenerate just from having lunch. Regardless of that Prime would at least make more sense it took place years after the main series rather than between 1 and 2. Still, you could also reason that Meta Ridley is just Ridley's mind uploaded to a robot much like Adam in Fusion and the real Ridley is exclusive to 1 and Super making at least some sense but that still doesn't explain Samus' carelessness at the end of Samus Returns. As for Dread, he can sit it out after the clone-seption of Other M and Fusion.

    • @lpfan4491

      The issue with this is, Ridley is kaputz after Metroid1. He wouldn't be able to eat to regenerate, which is why everyone just assumed his Super Metroid-incarnation to be a clone until Prime came out.
      Sure, the Meta Ridley-thing has some holes too, like how his brain conviniently was left intact long enough for pirates to pick it up. But it is more reasonable than him just not being dead randomly. How he went from mostly robotic to organic again tho...you got me there. I will just continue to headcanon that he used phazon to regenerate enough of his organic body to eat after his fight in Prime3.

    So when it comes to the Fight between them Samus fights Ridley as if he's any other Creature, but then Ridley flips the table by suddenly subdueing her and then speaking. Not just revealing he's sentient...but also the Leader of the space pirates.
    Shocking Samus...but also making her realise he Killed her Mother out of shere cruelty..which send her into a fit of Rage that focuses all the hatred she had for the Pirates all onto Ridley, Overwhelming the space dragon.

    - mature Samus: can face Ridley with courage, having overcome her trauma
    - even older Samus: absolutely owns zombie Ridley, showing how far she's come and also how Ridley's single-mindedness and reliance on cheap copies to stay alive has cost him. She dispatches the foe that was once her biggest fear while childing him have saying he shouldn't have come back.
    Despite barely implied those events exteding from the Samus manga to Fusion kinda tell a complete story.

    I like to see Ridley as a representation of Samus' trauma. No matter how hard she tries, she can never push away or forget what happened to her parents, and Ridley always comes back to haunt her tortured soul.

    They've really written themselves into a corner if they decide to bring Ridley back after Fusion. His frozen remains crumbled to dust, and Samus absorbed the X-parasite that mimicked him. So now what?...
    "Nano-Ridleys, son?"

    • @ohhai10
      @ohhai10 3 года назад +1

      Fusion's Ridley was actually Other M's cloned Ridley. So the last we saw of OG Ridley (timeline wise) was Super Metroid. They could very easily BS saying some of his cells survived Zebes' explosion and slowly recovered. We saw in Samus Returns despite being beaten by Samus he very quickly regenerated the rest of his body leaving the mechanical parts behind. Just bird magic him alive again baaabbbyy.

    Ridley is the most powerful being in the universe. He has been blown to pieces many times then resurrected, cybernetically enhanced, and hell even turned into robot. My favorite Ridley is Solid Ridley in Super Metroid. Liquid Ridley was destroyed in Metroid Zero Mission. Solidus Ridley was Fusion

    I do understand if Ridley shows up in Metroid Prime 4 but not in Metroid Dread since he supposed to be dead after Super Metroid or Metroid fusion Metroid prime games takes place before Metroid 2 the return of Samus or now the remake Metroid Samus Returns I don't want Ridley to magically return in Metroid Dread great video as always.

    Honestly, I think it would awesome if Ridley spoke, like when Metroid 6 happens somewhere halfway through the game you hear him manical cackleing, echoing through the walls, taunting and her saying "Miss me Samus? Ca ha ha ha haa! You know me...I'm alway back for more! You'll never be rid of me, Samus! *Neo* before my strength as I tear you apart!" then Neo-Ridley bursts through the floor

    Well metroid isn't that much about formula, so that might explain why we have had many different stories and villains.
    Ridley might not need that much time on screen or talk, however maybe reading some files written by him would fit.
    Though if they ever make him talk and if it's done right, I wouldn't go crazy saying that metroid is not about that and they ruined the character.
    I think it's fine if he doesn't talk, but I'm open for the chance to see that

    Ridley is the Ganondorf of the Metroid Series.
    The big difference being that he's been defeated several times by the same Samus, while Ganondorf has been defeated by several different Links across three timelines, so that makes the writing a bit more complicated.
    Perhaps she could run into more members of his race where some are good/neutral/evil, but she starts the game thinking they all pose a threat to everyone.

    Ridley should be either telepathic or the space pirates as a whole should communicate through alien screeches and clicks. Imagine a scene where the space pirates cower before him in a dark chamber deep beneath Zebes. His eyes light up, and low clicks and growls fill the air. One of the pirates turns around and points his claw toward the exit, as if giving orders. Aliens don't have to speak English.

    A Metroid game that really did have Ridley as the main antagonist/evil force would be great as a way to explore his rivalry with Samus. I do like him as is in the series but at least one game where this happens would be great.

  • @wiilov
    @wiilov 3 года назад +3

    Maybe not in every game, but if he were to be cut down to rare appearances only, or worse removed completely, it wouldn't feel right. He's an equal part to the franchise as the titular Metroids and Samus, and to just remove him without going into detail how intelligent he actually is...its a waste of potential....which is the Metroid franchise in a nutshell, so it'll probably happen.

    • @Proteus_Ridley

      You could say Ridley is like the Ganon of Zelda universe, and King DDD of Kirby universe, to a less extent
      While Ridley isn't the main cause of most problems in the Metroid games, one could say his reason for appearing is his deep hatred towards Samus, an obsession that he would never truly give up, as shown by his arrogance in the Metroid manga

    I think the Purple X-Parasite at the end of the game could have fused Raven Beak with Ridley instead of Kraid to give the finale a bit more meaning seeing Samus become so strong that she can just beam her Nemesis to death without trying

    Ridley could be used like Vile from Mega Man X, being a recurring character, but not showing up all the time. It actually would make it all the more exciting when he shows up.

    Is he NEEDED? No. But, he’s a badass dragon who’s an iconic part of this series. One of my all time favorite antagonists.
    He’s like a more faithful Starscream. Never the main guy, but always problematic.

  • @IanFraser420
    @IanFraser420 4 месяца назад

    I think having Ridley be silent would also be a good way of conveying how alien he is. It’s not like he’s pretending to be animalistic; we all know he’s the leader of the space pirates. He’s not hiding his intellect. He only appears animalistic because he does not express the characteristics humans associate with intelligence. He’s so alien you can’t read his emotions. His species might not be capable of speaking English, or any other language used by the federation. He doesn’t have lips, after all. And even if he were capable, it’d make sense if he willingly chose not to, in defiance of the federation.
    Also, as far as bringing back Ridley goes, if the Space Pirates are loyal enough to constantly repair him every time he’s injured by Samus (a courtesy they don’t seem to extend to Kraid or Mother Brain, interestingly), I feel like they could just clone him.

  • @squashua_
    @squashua_ 3 года назад +1

    No of course he’s not needed, but Ridley’s I think the Samus Returns cameo is acceptable. I’d say it’s dangerous to begin discussion of removing Ridley, and I’d disagree with his permanent removal. What I would love, is to use existing Metroid bosses as main antagonists in future games. For example, a Phantoon-focused Metroid would be really interesting.
