One of the few reactions to this I've seen from a real guitarist that picks up what he's doing and also plays with it. Gonna sub and check out your other videos. Love your vibe and your character, you've got great cadence in your voice that makes listening very enjoyable and you're clearly knowledgeable as a guitarist, which as a fellow guitarist, I can appreciate. ''How he gets there, who knows?'' is a good summary lol.
Sadly you were asked to analyze the live version as he always plays this song very freely from the original recorded version. It would have been so so cool that you had looked to the recording because the song has a really awesome development in crescendo. The structure grows in emotions in every cycle. You can revisit anytime 😁 Thanks for your videos.
Mmmmmm..... I disagree. Of all the 30 or so live versions I've seen, I still think this one is the best. (Also it DOES have 12M views which does say something.)
Saw Buckethead at the Georgia Theater in Athens, GA in 2008….played for over 3 hours with one 10 minute break :)…I’ve still got a few videos from then. Buckethead often tours without a band. He’s definitely a musical genius. And a master of his craft.
I think it's a testament to Mr. Palmisano's skill and knowledge that he's even able to keep up with identifying what the hell Buckethead is doing, let alone work towards emulating it for demonstration purposes. This stuff is so beyond me, I don't even have the barest concept of what's going on; I just think it sounds awesome.
I've sent alot of phenomenal bands in my 46 years on the planet and I'm not saying this lightly the most baddest ass solo I've ever heard live in person was by this man Buckethead with Primus at ozzfest 99 the version on RUclips has nothing on what he actually played live that day
He changes the major solo every night live. Total improve every night. Recently I saw him two nights in a row and then a week later. Even after 24 shows, every sol was different. He’s amazing live but you must wear earplugs if you’re in the front because the sound shakes your heart. Your ears almost bleed. I learned after my first show back in the early 90s. Great reaction and I hope you see more buckethead
This was the first Buckethead video I saw and it made me an instant fan, which is pretty rare for me because I mostly am focused on my own music these days. One of a kind artist.
His hands are massive too which makes it more fascinating to watch. I’ve been to a couple of his concerts and you really can tell there. Between that and being like 6’7 without the bucket, he honestly looks like he could play basketball.
I love watching other guitarists watch buckethead.. the absolute outstanding technique is just funny to watch other people realise we’re in such an amazing time with Sir buckethead around!
Some guitar players you are impressed with and you know they’re brilliant and then some you just say wow that’s a powerful force that I can’t explain, it’s just incredible
one of my favorite players. i dont believe there's anything Bucket cant do on guitar. amazing. incredible. talented. musical. creative. he's super human
What has always amazed me about buckethead is he never, ever misses a cord. How much time ,work, effort has gone in to this artists guitar regiment? Crazy.
As a Guitarist I really wished I had those long Fingers Buckethead has. He just reaches Scale Lengths I would not even wish to try and he does it so Easily!!! Jordan live is for me one of the most technical Songs he ever made.
If it makes you feel any better, guys like Stevie Ray Vaughan and Randy Rhoads had pretty small/average-sized hands and made it look easy too! Plus, there's the always-inspiring Django Reinhardt: whenever I find myself complaining about physical limitations, I go and watch one of his videos and quickly get back to it 😂
@@Imperialmusicfan SRV was relatively small (5'5"). Nobody that small has "massive" hands. His fingers were like tree trunks, but his hand span was average at best.
@@leerobbo92 I have yet to watch this, but there's an older guy with a video on here talking about playing the guitar with small(er) hands. It might be worth looking it up. 🙂
I still remember watching him playing Jordan live for the first time (I forgot the title of the show). It was a jaw-dropping performance because I have never seen someone play guitar like that. The kill switch, "nubbing" technique, legato all this stuff is just amazing.
Watching you attempt to break this down has been one of the most enjoyable videos I've ever watched on RUclips. I really loved watching this. Wonderful.
My god.... how easily you break this down and get close to what he is playing so quickly makes me want to stick my hands in tree chipper so I never try to play again..... You have such talent
And imagine all this in a very limited vision mask - and when I saw him in Austin a few yrs ago he had a shaded shield over the mask. And in the dark. Just tremendous. I gave him a TX flag and he handed me a toy. Such a great show and night. Hail BH 🤘🏻🇺🇸
I couldn't help but laugh when you were trying to do the solo, not because you were doing bad, you were actually picking up a lot of stuff which is sick! I was laughing cause while you were trying to figure it out I could see how much Buckethead was blowing your mind. Great reaction! LOL
"His vibrato has that frightening erratic thing." It's like Hendrix. A great example is Power of Soul on the original Band of Gypsies Live at the Fillmore East. The very first note after the intro part of the song is a great example and really the whole record but that one note is easily heard and just feels like it's burning your soul.
Awesome to see you cover buckethead ! I don’t really listen to him as much anymore but I always do every few months or so . He was the entire reason I ever picked up an electric guitar ! You should check out some of the videos of young buckethead , even when he was young he was such a force
You know it’s good when mike says “I can’t play this” Not gonna lie tho, when I was a kid (I’m only 25 now) bucket head and les clay pool used to terrify me as child. My dad died years ago and I had forgotten all about bucket head and after seeing this video it took me down a nostalgic rabbit hole
Great video... I've been following Buckethead since the '90's, and I've seen him live countless times, and every time he delivers! I got his autograph, a Scrabble game keychain, and a drum stick in Aspen, Colorado at Belly up back in the 2000's... he played with a band and rocked the place...🤘❤️🤘
Always found it amazing how much heart Buckethead injects into his technically ridiculous music.. I honestly find that to be his biggest talent...love the dude. Thanks for doing this, you are absolutely one of my favorite YT personalities. You come across as a really good dude. Me and my bar friends bullshit about these channels and your name always comes up...plus helps me with my three chord knowledge for my Misfits cover band! Oh yeah, would love your opinion on a topic we argue over a bit...Dick Dale and his fucked up guitar stringing. Do you think the strings being upside down created that extra nuance that makes his playing so discernable or do you think it was just his unique take on the music. These are the things bored, drunk, vastly untalented musicians argue over at 1am on a Tuesday. Need someone with real knowledge and talent...thanks!
Paul Gilbert was his teacher. If you watch Pauls stuff, then watch Buckets, you'll see many similarities. Bucket just puts his own twist and style onto it. Both were (and still are) huge idols of mine back in the day when I played and it still amazes me when I hear them play!
Hell yeah!🤘 I remember seeing Buckethead live at Ozzfest, back in 2001 I believe, at Shoreline Amphitheatre in San Francisco Bay Ares. Joe Satriani, Craig Chaquico, Ottmar Liebert, and Buckethead were my solo guitarist I really enjoyed and still today, music never gets old. #ThxForTheReaction and to your student for requesting Buckethead. It would be cool to understand how Buckethead played "Big Sur Moon" and to figure out the timing he did with a Digital Delay pedal in sixteenth-notes I believe....? That's how I imagined Bucketheads style of playing.
You should do Shawn Lane, Peace In Mississippi. Single handedly taught me pitch perfect vibrato. Buckethead worshipped the guy while he was alive (Shawn passed away to severe health complications). Buckethead used to hold up a sign that said "Shawn Lane is the best player of all time".
Buckethead is in a league of his own and his skill is remarkable and envied(admired might be a better word) by everyone. Even the top guitarist in the world.
I watched A LOT of reaction videos for this song. None of them are as good as this one. Not even close! This is what a reaction video is supposed to be. GREAT JOB Michael 👏🏻
I've always been hooked on Buckethead ever since hearing Jordan back on Guitar Hero 2 15 years ago. Hard to keep up with everything he releases but there's no one like him. Couple of my favorites are The Redeem Team, Siege Engine, Fourneau Cosmique, and hell some full albums like Pike 51 and Colma
I saw Buckethead in Milwaukee a few years ago. One technically impossible song to the next for two hours; no time in between them except to hand out toys. Phenomenal is an understatement.
Buckethead is the only guitarist who shared his experimental discoveries through his albums. Some may like it and some may not. And then, BAM! Super album comes out, incorporating his experimental riffs with badass solo.
Cool video. Thanks for explaining. You are a very talented guitarist yourself. I just ran into this song by Buckethead and I can't stop listening to it. I never have played but I think I might take some lessons. It would be fun to learn. I don't kid myself about how good the playing is.🎸 Amazing.
I have prayed to watch you react and breakdown some BUCKETHEAD and specifically this song. Ohhhh what an amazing Saturday this has become. THANK YOU !!!!!!
Bucket's attack and ability to fluidly alternate between palm muting and thumb muting as always fascinated me. "Erratic control" is the most beautiful and fitting way to describe him.
Buckethead is great. Soothsayers like his oldest hit. He does play with band when they can. I'd gone with sail on soothsayer, patrolman, cavernous or other incredible selections
the BEST ! ! ! His pinky finger strength has to be one of the strongest i have seen just for the bends them selves. He has huge fingers. That's why i always wondered why he preferred Gibson short scale? His left hand is more classical vertical style than angled like most rockers to fit all 4 fingers in between the shortened Gibson fret spacing. How does he keep his G string from going out? What i also see is this is one of his freedom simple key changes meaning he has a thousand places to go if he felt the urge. And yes the right hand is the signature of any master guitarist. That's why I tell my casual friend lessons of playing piano, or better yet congas, or bongos. To play the in-between rock beats. Syncopation comes in handy to shake up soloing. Also soloing like a sax player. Rhythm comping on the 1 and 3 with two or triple stops like a piano player. Soloing with a monotone (few notes with a scattered yet vocal placement) like playing on guitar the notes of your mom calling you all in for dinner. ie John Lee Hooker. Glad to hear your hybrid picking immersion! That is so amazing. I love the 132, or 64th note fluries. Buckethead shreds ! ! ! And his mellow pikes are gold.
oh shoot it is a baritone. I wonder if he uses 9's? Here's Gibson signature model verbiage: "The Buckethead Signature Les Paul looks like a somewhat modified Alpine White Les Paul. However, Gibson designed the Buckethead Signature Les Paul's body and neck to accommodate Buckethead's size and playing style by building them to an over sized scale. Unlike the typical 24 3/4" scale, the Buckethead Signature Les Paul's neck is a massive 27".
New sub here mate - totally agree about that whole section at 12 minutes - crazy way he looks at it, then of course there is the absolutely flawless technique on display
Fun Fact: Buckethead is 6'8" tall, and he's not actually wearing a mask. His parents set him in the backyard to be raised by the chickens because his face was so horrific to look upon. He wears the Buckethelm as a symbol of his imminent revenge.
Vibrato incredible yes , with respect to Buckethead a Man who wears a mask and a bucket and has a nervous vibrato absolutely nails his inner being he may be a shy guy and lets face it not everyone records at 3 am with a chicken coop in the same room. True story and an amazing talent. Just found you! Excellent description and an honest approach that no matter how seasoned you are there is always the moment we ALL have- but refrain from putting it out in front of an entire audience that will be critical to everything. Bravo Sir, respect.
Check out that stretch he does during Seige Engine. It is just nuts. 27" scale and he goes to work. He just put out a ridiculous amount of music in the last year. He is playing with a band soon again. He is also Death Cube K. Pikes are well into the 300s now. Another thing that he should be praised for is low ticket prices. Small venues concert for like $35. Has played the biggest stages with GNR. Did a PBS special. Has let fans play his set on stage. Just a legend. Thanks for this break down. You are the first person to try explain at least a framework of the solo.
Siege Engine! Yes! That live version is unreal. His hand looks like a giant spider just spazzing out on the fretboard. He really gets into playing that song, too. His body language says it all.
The thing that amazes me is how effortless he makes it look, his facial expression doesn't even change!

Excellent comment, I agree.
Yes there are better live versions too -
Mmmmmm..... I disagree. Of all the 30 or so live versions I've seen, I still think this one is the best. (Also it DOES have 12M views which does say something.)
well said
Yeah this s not the best version
Saw Buckethead at the Georgia Theater in Athens, GA in 2008….played for over 3 hours with one 10 minute break :)…I’ve still got a few videos from then. Buckethead often tours without a band. He’s definitely a musical genius. And a master of his craft.
I saw Bucket at Georgia Theater in 2018 and HOB in Myrtle Beach 2019. I miss not seeing him tour since.
YEAH YEAH 🤘🏻🙂
His song, (I love my parents) makes me cry every time I listen to it.
I love my parents too.
This one of Buckethead has been one of my favorite vids on RUclips for years. Enjoyable to see you analyze it.
Buckethead is incredible. Still making his albums (Pikes). He has hundreds. Don’t miss out!!
I've sent alot of phenomenal bands in my 46 years on the planet and I'm not saying this lightly the most baddest ass solo I've ever heard live in person was by this man Buckethead with Primus at ozzfest 99 the version on RUclips has nothing on what he actually played live that day
So cool to see an actual guitarist/teacher going over his playing. I don't even play and he is my absolutely favorite guitarist ever.
I've seen B probably 10 times and they are legitimately the loudest concerts I've ever been to.
This was the first Buckethead video I saw and it made me an instant fan, which is pretty rare for me because I mostly am focused on my own music these days.
One of a kind artist.
That left hand on Bucket when soloing is like a beautiful spider weaving her web to catch her prey… both talented and yet alluring.
His hands are massive too which makes it more fascinating to watch. I’ve been to a couple of his concerts and you really can tell there. Between that and being like 6’7 without the bucket, he honestly looks like he could play basketball.
I read that as “A beautiful sniper” hahahah
Yess his fingers fretting always put me in mind of the facehugger creature from the Alien movies. So elongated and deft. Freaky and impressive stuff.
looks like a big spider
"he leads with his pinkie" it's because his pinkie is like my forefinger!!
Kudos to Michael for figuring this out on the fly. VERY impressive depth of knowledge.
8:36 what you say here is EXACTLY Buckethead. It's chaos in alot of his songs but he's in total control. He's a damn wizard
"He's in total control, but there's this erratic nature to it" - that perfectly describes Buckethead.
70% of this is improvised on the spot which is even more impressive.
buckethead is awesome.. watching you pick his stuff up in about one minute is just as cool. thanks.
This is what I have been waiting for, for sooo long! Thank you Michael, more Buckethead!!
I love watching other guitarists watch buckethead.. the absolute outstanding technique is just funny to watch other people realise we’re in such an amazing time with Sir buckethead around!
the control of his right hand has always blown me away. the alternate picked parts are so tight and right on its crazy. so technical! 🔥
Crazy.
Weird Al doesn’t get enough credit for his secret side project. Amazing vid as always! 🤘
Dude, if Weird Al played guitar like this, he would dress up as Buckethead to rock his accordion!
His magnum opus is Hold Me Forever, ends in a 15 min solo that's just bananas
No way. Buckethead brings me back to the guitar hero one days and the impossible waterfall of notes that was Jordan. Looking forward to this one!
Guitar Hero 2*
@@maxhonzel472 i beat that song all of once on expert and legit cried when it happened. been hooked on buckethead since
As a Guitarist I really wished I had those long Fingers Buckethead has.
Plus, there's the always-inspiring Django Reinhardt: whenever I find myself complaining about physical limitations, I go and watch one of his videos and quickly get back to it 😂
Yeah I’m jealous of people who have hands that easily cover five frets
@@leerobbo92 SRV had pretty massive hands and played gauge 13 strings for years.
Wonderful.
Great analyzing. The bucket cannot be imitated. Brian has incredible hand strength. And speed. Its crazy bad ass.
this song makes me tear up and I have no idea why
just absolute shred
Buckethead is not only extremely fast his notes are perfect.
14:46 that's the exact sound a guitarist makes when watching Buckethead. I do it every time I see him live.
That made me chuckle, too. It’s kind of a “I have no idea how he does it but here goes nothing” sort of exasperated exhalation. 😂
This is hilarious 😂
Dude can expertly swing a Nunchaku in one hand; while out-shredding every metal guitarist with the other. Your favorite guitarist's, guitarist.
My god.... how easily you break this down and get close to what he is playing so quickly makes me want to stick my hands in tree chipper so I never try to play again.....
LOL
I love when he watches part of a crazy solo and pauses to attempt to deconstruct it and goes "I mean it-it- ehhehhheh"
We need another Buckethead video!
Buckethead might be the most slept on guitarists. He makes the guitar sing
You know it’s good when mike says “I can’t play this”
Not gonna lie tho, when I was a kid (I’m only 25 now) bucket head and les clay pool used to terrify me as child. My dad died years ago and I had forgotten all about bucket head and after seeing this video it took me down a nostalgic rabbit hole
Lol , I used to think Alice Cooper was a demon. I basically thought Wayne's World was a documentary literally from hell.
I been waiting for buckethead’s turn
Lol
This exact video has been in my playlist for 5 years. Unforgettable moments with friends to this exact video. Bonkers.
This reminds me of when I introduced my guitar teacher to Buckethead and he was trying to figure out what he was doing. Soo cool, great job
The song Machete by Buckethead on the Colma album is a personal favourite of mine love the solo outro
Buckethead, best guitar player ever!! 🔥🔥🔥
One of the best musicians ever.
I love your style of covering music like this, it's perfect.
Pike 65 as well
Fantastic video! Thanks for looking at this one I’ve been waiting for someone to break it down. 🎉❤
Paul Gilbert is the guitarist that comes to mind when I hear his vibrato and even some of his blazing runs .
PG was his teacher I believe
@@aashishsharma9106 yes he was BucketHead's teacher more than 1 year. The quick techniks is learned from PG.
Paul Gilbert taught him!
I saw him live around this time. It was so good. Over an hour of his jams.
Buckethead's released over 350 albums to date. He just can't stop writing music.
Bucket's attack and ability to fluidly alternate between palm muting and thumb muting as always fascinated me. "Erratic control" is the most beautiful and fitting way to describe him.
Buckethead is a Legend 🔥
Buckethead is a force of nature on the guitar. His abilities with the guitar are above everyone else
Buckethead is great. Soothsayers like his oldest hit. He does play with band when they can. I'd gone with sail on soothsayer, patrolman, cavernous or other incredible selections
I saw him play live once in Arizona a few years ago. It was funny to see him give out toys at the end of the show.
the BEST ! !
I’ve heard it is a baritone sized guitar , a normal size guitar would look like a guitar hero one in his hands !
oh shoot it is a baritone. I wonder if he uses 9's? Here's Gibson signature model verbiage:
"The Buckethead Signature Les Paul looks like a somewhat modified Alpine White Les Paul.
Yes, sirrrrr! Buckethead!!! Hell, yeah!!
What's awesome about this is how speechless anyone becomes when they see Buckethead play, especially dudes in the know. Shocking, really.
Is Brain coming back?

Siege Engine! Yes! That live version is unreal. His hand looks like a giant spider just spazzing out on the fretboard. He really gets into playing that song, too. His body language says it all.
I could do it on a normal size but took alot of practice. Insane on his guitar
