Just beautiful. Bob sounded genuinely excited to have Jerry there. He rarely introduces people and if he does it is pretty subdued. Not so here. He was thrilled. What a perfect moment in time was this.
I first heard this song from the singing of a beautiful Irish woman Sinead Lohan.I didn't realise it was a Dylan song.I lived with a Dylan fan for 37 years. He obviously hadn't sussed it either. ☘
Well, that was rather amazing. Play it again. The best live version of one of the best Dylan songs ever. There is no great song that Jerry's magick guitar cannot make even better
How can anyone doubt that this man deserved a Nobel prize? Lyrically brilliant, fantastic tune and one of the best performances I have come across of this song.
Since 2016, I am still fighting the good fight why Dylan more than deserved the Nobel Prize. I say, 'listen to "Visions of Johanna" and you'll understand.'
@@PanglossDr Leonard Cohen possibly more in the literature sense but the sheer volume of Dylan's work is staggering. Having said that, I admit my LC listening experience is limited to Songs of Love and Hate and a few others only.

Thanks so much for posting this - it is a one of a kind performance with the greatest musical talents of my generation and all generations born in the 20th and 21st Centuries.
You know the song is sweet & only Jerry playing guitar beside Bob Dylan. Is such a special song, that I would sit here & play it over and over again at least a dozen times.
I was there that night. Great show. Lots of jokes & fun from Dylan. Garcia a bit discreet though. He stood in a corner of the stage with his shoulderlong grey hair & beard and just played along and then suddenly he got a blue spotlight on him and ripped off a great solo until the blue light went out. Cool.
692MOM In the final interview with Relix magazine GARCIA was asked if he affiliated with any particular belief system and JERRY UNEQUIVOCALLY SAID: “Christianity”... he sang many gospel songs through the years but I jumped out of my seat when I read that. That article came out right after he died. I haven’t been able to find it on the web. It seems to have been buried. Jerry believed in Jesus and I imagine him and Dylan had some interesting conversations over the years. Of course this appearance at the Warfield was at the height of Dylan’s newborn gospel tours.
Paging CHARLIE MILLER!!!!! This is one hundred percent in need of that mans magic!!! Between Allens beautiful piano work and Garcia stunning beauty if Charlie could just polish this up a bit it feels like an American masterpiece
In 1988 , I met my future Wife in the parking lot after a Bob Dylan concert. Being both hardcore DeadHeads , we very quickly became best Friends. Were Married on my Birthday the following year, and went to quite a few Grateful Dead Shows together. The end of our touring days following the Grateful Dead around America 🇺🇸 was in the spring tour Midwest in Rosemont 🌹 Theatre, Chicago. Few months later, We were Married together on my 21st Birthday. Which was also Jerry’s last Show with the Grateful Dead six years later, in the same city we’d seen him play Best & Last ⚡️ The Grateful Dead were Built To Last. Our Marriage lasted twenty years, if I had only realized how happy I was when I was so miserable the last ten years…..
The first Grateful Blessing after being divorced several years. Our first Grandchild was born. He was born exactly 28 years after the day we first met, in that Bob Dylan parking lot.
@@donalkinsella4380 I have and she's my favourite go to for the female version, so don't knock me for what I said, it was about being the best version he is sings nothing more. Cheers Henry
@@donalkinsella4380 Yeah, he's more popular for his lyrics than his voice, which I suppose he's as famous for, being, like sand and glue (Bowie, Hunky Dory). When I saw him at the Apollo in the late 90's he was great. so no matter what I say, you won't agree, and do I care, no.... Cheers for your take on him though, always nice to see there's people still out there willing to listen.
“I’m a supporter of his group all the way” (To the point that he asked to join the GD in the late 80’s. I think Phil nixed this proposal. Did anyone else see Dylan’s tour with Lesh? 1999 I think it was..? I caught the Concord CA show)
As I understand it, this was actually the first time that Garcia & Dylan performed together in public, and it took a bit of finagling by Bill Graham to make happen; He told Bob that Jerry was dying to play with him, and told Jerry that Bob wanted him to come down and jam, but was too reluctant to invite him personally. The stunning, sacred Warfield...
that guitar of Jerry Garcia is something else, fabulous
Sinead Lohan sung for her supper with this song . Fabulous Irish singer .
Dylan&Garcia, brilliant performance. Sineads vocal equally great..
Just beautiful. Bob sounded genuinely excited to have Jerry there. He rarely introduces people and if he does it is pretty subdued. Not so here. He was thrilled. What a perfect moment in time was this.
And the results show he had good reason: Garcia's playing here makes this such a transcendent version

Jerry and Bob shared a deep friendship. Wish they had joined forces more.
just fantastic...Dylan & Jerry...the pic!!!!! together.....2 geniuses....

Amen Friend 🥀
So sweet...what a feeling this gives me... Dylan is surely some kind of angel from a more beautiful place.
I was thinking the same exact thing about Jerry.
This must be my favourite among his many masterful live performances. Everything about it is beautiful.

This is so outstanding. Dylan is absolutely fantastic here. But I listen to this and feel: this is a Jerry Garcia product; so amazingly distinct.
Doesn’t seem like keyboard or piano is, “ speakered “ , in a bit too loud??
You get the feeling that even Dylan knows how good this song is.
RAMONA...! grandioso unico!! Bob Dylan!!! Gran bello da ascoltare! Sempre e ! E comunque .. bob!! Genio. Love you
