Regardless of whether you're a Dead fan or not, this is easily one of the greatest Beatles covers I've ever heard. And its hard to do them justice. Many people have tried.
It takes a man like Jerome John Garcia to truly make something greater from an already great source. Had the pleasure of seeing the JGB a couple of times, and his other band quite a few more, and it was always a true treat for my heart and soul. Thanks Jer.
"Dear Prudence" is a perfect song to me, and Jerry was a perfect musician to me (not that Lennon wasn't either, Jerry could just do different things), this is a masterpiece done by masters. To me it doesn't get any better
5:28 IS WHEN THE BAND JUST STARTS TO MAKE THE TEARS START FLOWING LIKE WINE!!!!!! I miss you Jerry, cause you are beautiful and part of everything!!!!!!!
I used to think phil lesh held a lesser role in the Grateful dead. Boy was I wrong. He is right up there with jerry, and not to mention an all around awesome person.
Well the bass player is the guy who creates the whole way a band functions. The Dead with a different bass player would sound more different than if they replaced the big guy. In short, bass and drums is the cake, everyone else is just icing.
I love the GD, but Phil's kind of an asshole. Kicked one of the original Pranksters (Merlin) out of Jerry's funeral for a wisecrack that made Bob Dylan laugh, who left with him.
there is something special about the shows at the Warfield. the way the crowd sounds, how close you actually were to the stage made the energy amazing. Jerry always sounded the best there. I feel extreamly lucky to have seen jgb there on many occasions. soo many memories. Thank you for posting this and making my day.
This is the beauty of music. The really good stuff is open for interpretation. Jerry heard a tune... of course one of the best songs ever written... and put his touch on it. Which turned out to be fantastic
Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play? Dear Prudence, greet the brand new day The sun is up, the sky is blue It's beautiful and so are you Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play? Dear Prudence, open up your eyes Dear Prudence, see the sunny skies The wind is low, the birds will sing That you are part of everything Dear Prudence, won't you open up your eyes? Look around round Look around round round Look around Dear Prudence, let me see you smile Dear Prudence, like a little child The clouds will be a daisy chain So let me see you smile again Dear Prudence, won't you let me see you smile? Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play? Dear Prudence, greet the brand new day The sun is up, the sky is blue It's beautiful and so are you Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play?
@@uradragonit’s my 30th bday today and your comment brought me back to an incredible cover I completely forgot about and haven’t heard in 8 years! So thank you so much for this completely unexpected, beautiful birthday gift, stranger ♥️
this is so good I am on my third time through and had to order a Jerry black pocket T to get the rest of the download. Sweet, a very tasty JGBand cut and with Phil sitting in.
to juli: the gd and the jgb were more than bands. they were true innovators, and unfortunately many didn't get to see jerry play live. it was mostly magic. he personally ruined it for me to see others such as the who, santana, hot tuna, winwood, dylan, modest mouse and many others try to play live. there are special people who are absolutely not like the rest of society.
True story brother. But I wont say Captain Trios didn't ruim it for me as much as he ruined it for everyone else phlying Phishn or not. Not even Townshend can rent the space in my head that Jerry does. Now or ever again
Swami Bodhichitananda Saraswati I voted Trump, love this song, have been a Deadhead for 40+ years. Most of my friends are both long term Deadheads and conservative Republicans.
JL Waddey so you grant yourself the authority to determine who is really a Deadhead and what a Deadhead is allowed to think and say? I've been a DH since 1972 , attended hundreds of shows, talked to 10,000s of Deadheads and never heard anyone make so close-minded a statement as you. I am actually shocked. By the way, apparently you don't know that Weir and Trump have socialized on numerous occasions and that Trump once introduced Ratdog on stage? There's a New Yorker magazine article that Chronicles this, not making it up. Sounds like you have some serious maturing to do.
Every time someone disses Trump I think the only other option to win then would be Hillary...... Are you fucking serious I would vote Trump any day over that nightmare GOOD RIDDANCE FOREVER BITCH!!!!
And we should all care why…???? Most Deadheads are here for the music and could give a shit about who you and your friends vote for! Promoting division is pretty much the exact opposite of what Jerry and the Dead were all about… hints why a mostly liberal band and fan base didn’t mind you guys hanging out with them!
The best version - and I might be a little biased because I was there, but Calderone Concert Hall end of Feb 1980. It's on the After Midnight Bonus CD from Kean College in Union NJ. Check that version out Dead Heads - I think you'll agree
+craig lockwood I definitely agree! I was at the Calderone show too and Dear Prudence was epic that show! That version is here on youtube too(only audio-no live vid).
A song covered by many, but not like Jerry can cover it. He got versas mixed up some nights, but fuck it's Jerry. I love playing this with a great guitarist and friend. He is on acoustic and I have my bongos. It's a great song. Thank you Fab 4
Prudence always reminds me of prude which would be myself after God started talking to me. But you tell me. Yes. Write a long letter in which there will never be any return... only silence. And misery. And loneliness. And horror. Dear Prudence...
Correct, it was a special deal that ran for one week only. You had to buy the Jerry tee to get the download code. I also got the 3/1/80 release, and that was a mess (took them almost 6 months to get me the CD after paying for it; promised everyone who pre-ordered a free download and they never came through). The Jerry site also had the date of this show incorrect when they first listed it. I'm not sure who is running shop over there, but they are nothing like dead.net.
Does anybody know where to get Garcia Live 1.5 these days? It doesn't seem to be officially available anywhere and I don't even see any other souces for it either.
This is my all time favorite version of this masterpiece Forever Grateful Forever Dead 🔴⚡🔵🤘🏻

Phil and Jerry carried the dead imo. I underestimated Phil a long time but then I honed in on that bass. He's amazing
@@matthewlawton9241 that makes perfect sense! Wier was kind of a hybrid of sense. Thanks for that enlightenment.
I love the GD, but Phil's kind of an asshole. Kicked one of the original Pranksters (Merlin) out of Jerry's funeral for a wisecrack that made Bob Dylan laugh, who left with him.

Garcia plays Dylan or Garcia playing The Beatles, just does not get better. Than again Garcia playing anything makes me smile.
This is the beauty of music. The really good stuff is open for interpretation. Jerry heard a tune... of course one of the best songs ever written... and put his touch on it. Which turned out to be fantastic
All art is interpretive
It’s very rare that someone can cover the Beatles and actually make so much better than the original
It's Jerry.
it's Jerry. plain and simple Jerry.😋😻
Fuckin Jerry
I don't know about that, but Jerry surely took this song and offered it to us

Such a great song done by so many great people. This is one of those great versions. I'm grateful I heard it.

This version of this song has gotten me through some hard times. Thank you to the uploader and to Jerry.
The FINEST quality of a JGB live recording I have ever heard!!!!
for something special look around around around around about 5:35. this explains how to use a guitar to turn water into wine
awesome. comments like this wash away all the bullshit from my mind
Dave Cacela yes
Dave Cacela Just like Dylan said, Jerry was a master of subtelty. Less was more, with the fat man.
I heard jerry actually did turn water into wine once. Atf his cousins wedding.
Jerry definitely had the ‘touch’ … 🎸⚡️🔥
This song always puts me in such a good mood. Great to listen to while driving.
Jerry, the masterpiece of my life !

Great version but check out the version Jerry does with reconstruction I think it's better it's got horns and it's funky as hell
No, this second set was released by the Jerry Garcia site just last week. It came free with the purchase of a $30 black Jerry t-shirt.
I was thinking about the fact that we lost John Lennon about 6 months before this was recorded live, and it brings a somber perspective to it.
My one and only Jerry show. Is there any video of this show? I'd be so happy to see this again.
