The Acolyte starts off a hundred years before the end of revenge of the Sith.
The premise is that the Jedi have lived in peace for hundreds of years, until now, where a dark side user grows their powers in the shadows.
The show begins with Mae, the evil twin hell bent on killing 4 Jedi masters on some crusade for reasons we don’t know yet, enters a village bar and challenges carry Anne moss to the death, she is bested until she throws a dagger at the bar keep to which Jedi trinity saves, leaving her guard down to die by a dagger.
I was surprised to learn that daggers are more lethal than lightsabers after the Kenobi show and how Anakin’s lightsaber through Reva’s chest wasn’t effective, and then Vader’s lightsaber through adult Reva, as well.
We see Mae’s lightside twin, Osha who wakes up on a ship, when her buddy brags about the wild night he and the crew mates had on Nar Shaddaa, nar shaddaa is like Star Wars Vegas. Not much law, crime world ran by the Hutts.
Neimodians no longer have their asian accent that George Lucas had all throughout the prequels, maybe these guys are from a different part of the galaxy…
The Jedi arrive on the ship and led by Jedi knight Yord and another Jedi, who fills the audience on what the story is. Osha left the order 6 years ago, she was found in a fire when she was around 8, and then they accuse her of killing a Jedi master. But of course, it was her twin.
They take her in a prison transport for questioning to Coruscant.
It’s nice to see coruscant again, as Master Sol trains younglings, when he speaks with Master Vernestra.
The backstory is, that Sol saved Osha and saved her from a fire on her home on Brendok as a kid, he doesn’t believe that she killed the Jedi Master Trinity.
They decide to keep this possibility hush hush as if it were to leak, their political enemies could use it against them.
Osha is on the droid ship, it eventually goes down, and she escapes, after saving one of the last inmates, he takes the last pod and she crash lands on some ice planet.
As Master sol observes his former apprentice’s hologram, we see how he still has attachment to her. He’s like a very weak version of Qui-Gon Jinn. Kind of does his own thing, but not as confident or stoic as Qui-Gon. He recognizes the Jedi aren’t always right.
Osha wakes up and she has a vision of Mae and herself when they were young, during the fire on their home of Brendok. They speak with each other and I feel like there’s some force connection dyad thing going on between them to facilitate this.
Sol gathers two other Jedi, Yord and dafnee keene’s character Jecki, who is a Padawan which is indicated with her braid.
He tells the story of Osha and Mae, revealing that they are twin sisters, and that Mae started a fire when they were kids, this fire killed their whole family.
They find Osha on the ice planet, she tells them she didn’t kill the Jedi Master, Sol believes her, and they take her with them.
Mae walks by the beach as she comes to her master, who is saying a Jedi is essentially invincible to metal or lightsabers, except against an acolyte, who fights without a weapon, and just stealths their way through everything.
    An acolyte kills the dream.
Overall I thought was meh, I’m not invested in the characters yet, so it’ll take some time. You can’t just start killing people off and expecting the viewer to be totally invested in the death of these characters. You have to spend an episode or 2 to get used to them, build their story, let us connect with them, then in episode 3 or 4 or something, they start dropping like flies, and everything just takes off super fast because of the exposition from the first 2 episodes.

Natalie Portman is on video saying she knew nothing about Star Wars when she took the role. The guy ur talking about is just an actor. It really doesn’t matter whether he knows Star Wars or not. His job is to perform, that’s it. The directors and screenwriters need to know Star Wars.

It’s more like destroying the dream and the core of the Jedi Code. The Sith did not defeat the Jedi via a duel but by corrupting the Republic, the institution the Jedi protected and defended for centuries. Thus, Order 66 happened. The Jedi’s greatest allies (Republic) became their greatest enemies (Empire). This broke many Jedi, such as Baylan Skoll, to the core and it made them become more vulnerable to the Dark Side. It’s psychological warfare: The war for the soul of the Galaxy (ex. Batman and Joker’s battle for the soul of Gotham).

The idiotic acolyte thinks she should literally beat her opponents with her fists and feet physically. That's totally missing the point. Though.... I don't know. The acolyte's idiotic master seems to also use a red lightsaber, so I don't really know what's his point.

It’s not as bad as Ahsoka but it’s pretty shit still so far.
I actually disagree with Theory and think episode 2 was better than 1 because the dialogue in 1 was absolutely abhorrent. Episode 2, the conversations felt a little more organic. There are a lot of logical flaws in the show (the prison escape and both instances of “hacking” things in these two episodes are incredibly eye rolling) and he’s right about Indara’s death carrying next to no weight. When I watched it and the camera sat on her death for a second I just went “ok, soooo?”. Like I couldn’t care less. I thought her actions were dumb and don’t know anything about her so it meant nothing to me other than metal blades are more powerful than lightsabers which is funny.
Still, it’s not Ahsoka levels of bad and the planets look cool so there’s that I guess. Sol, Yord, and Jecki are definitely the best things in the show so far so maybe they’ll carry it through to the finish line without any major snafus… that is assuming the rumors about episode 3 aren’t true…

It is fun, interesting, a little mysterious. We don't know where will it go, it can go really anywhere, since we know it doesn't need to fit into any story. We don't know that all of the characters will survive, we don't know that someone will die, we don't know anything. It feels like star wars, and in my opinion I can once again feel like i am watching star wars for the first time. To me sw is lager than life characters that can make you escape your reality and hardships of life. I don't wanna see real world stuff in a fictional world I love. Life is hard enough as it is, so when I put on sw, I wanna see a good story, good action and emotion. That's all I want, not other agendas or messages. It's as simple as that. I want to feel like a kid again, cause that's what sw is to me and many other people. But the new shows just won't give that to us, and even if we get upset, and complain, they just make more money. I read an interesting quote from George Lucas once, and I can't remember exactly how he put it, but essentially he made the point that it's important to establish a basic theme and premise in a movie or a TV show within the first couple of minutes. This helps to anchor the viewer, and once that's done, it doesn't matter how slowly or quickly you move the story along. But as with Ahsoka, what we see with the first two episodes of The Acolyte is a show that drifts aimlessly with no real meaning or point to it whatsoever.

Something that might help you being a soon to be 50 year old Star Wars fan, I was not impressed that much with the prequel movies the first time I saw them. My perspective from the first ones was completely different in the 80s. Then I realized that my age had changed me. And I was more open after that and the prequels became better and better each time I saw them. There’s a certain amount of age bias you can get with this stuff. I don’t think anyone would be immune. That doesn’t mean things are not crap too lol…. But people tend to glorify what was happening when they were first in love or at certain age playing action figures. And everything around that is elevated.
