  • Today I introduce my new layout, the Vernon & South Los Angeles (VSLA). The replaces the Santa Ana Industrial Lead. I did not like the way the layout room was configured before, and I had to change it to make it more comfortable and relaxing. I hope you enjoy the new layout!
    Any products discussed I am not compensated for in any way and just mention them because I like them and the are good products for me.

    The LA River scene is the most effective use of a backdrop I've ever seen. Just fantastic!

    As someone who is also trying to design an urban industrial layout for modern UP/BNSF, this is a fantastic inspiration! I loved the old layout and always looked forward to new videos. Now I can't wait to see this one come to life. (I still think it would be super awesome to add something like a removable connector to the Violet Alley Layout so it can be included in operations 😛)

      Yeah, I tried to figure out a way, violet alley in real life is where that scrap yard is, but there isn't room there.. I could always drill through the wall where that LAJ yard is as Violet Alley right on the other side.

    Well I loved your old SAIL but it’s great that you’ve rediscovered your motivation and the plans for the new layout are fabulous. The automatic shuttle function is amazing and the shot of the two trains crossing the bridges simultaneously simply epic. Well done and keep up the good work!

    I thought your other layout was awesome, especially the bridge scene that you kept, but this ...Oh My.
    I think an easy fix for the stack train would be to use one engine and one dummy with a light board. No worries about speed matching falling in/out of sync.

    • @VSLAModelRR
      @VSLAModelRR  3 месяца назад +1

      I don't mind speed matching, I've done it with my local power, I just need to do it, just not high on the priority list right now. I had a couple consisted and it was pretty cool but I think it was a BNSF and UP together lol, need to make them company matched as well as decoder matched too. Soon..

    Your new model railroad is awesome. I have observed the UP and BNSF in the areas you are modeling for many years because it is so facinating. You have inspirfed me to do something much smaller though. What type and dimension of plywood do you use as the layout base? Can't wait to see your next progress video.

    • @VSLAModelRR
      @VSLAModelRR  2 месяца назад

      Thanks! I just used 1/4 inch sanded for the tabletops and then put 1.5 inch or 2 inch foam on top. I don't see the need to use anything thicker but the layout is in my basement which is climate controlled.

    How deep is your LA River? I am looking at doing a similar concrete river (not LA) and was wondering what a good depth is for these type of rivers to include the slopes and walls etc? Am looking at 75mm ? Yours looks like it may be more? Thanks

    • @VSLAModelRR
      @VSLAModelRR  Месяц назад +1

      Hi, thanks for asking. The river itself is 2.5 inches (65mm) deep. I screwed a 1x3 piece of lumber to the bottom, and the styrene walls lean up agiainst it for now. The walls are two different lengths. The front right, sort of by the Fascia, is 4.5 inches (115mm), the angle is shallower thus the longer cut. The parts by the bridges and then back to the wall are 3.75 in (95mm) long. The LA river has different wall angles as it rolls around so I used different sizes for different looks. I was just eyeballing it and that looked good to me. I think for the prototype I'd need a shallower angle by the front part.
