  • In today's live training class we cover 2 case studies involving failures in the secondary air injection system. Secondary air injection isn't used on every car, but the ones that use it are known to have issues and failures in the system. Stay tuned!!!

    A week and a day late to class but I finally made it here Mike! All the wetness, valve blowing and relay sniffing really got my attention. It was more than Wells worth it to me, really enjoyed every minute. Great job man! -Glen

    Nice Class Mike. Only 3 years late. A system I have never looked at close before. Nice to have some idea on how the system works before I eventually come across one of these problems.

    The Trailblazer relay probably got some conductive saltwater intrusion inside that caused corrosion and/or an internal short circuit. I'm very interested to see the TechConnect episode where the faulty parts are dissected. Awesome class!

    great job Mike great points I like the part where the air injection MAF would not respond to the air pump coming on the bimmer because of the blockage. you isolated the problem and got it to flow it really shows the effect of a totally pluged cat convertor on the engine MAF same principal thanks again

      Very true..crazy to think a 10 dollar part can take out a 200 dollar part.. lol Always find its the check valve/water intrusion that kills them. I was surprised to see that relay on the Chev tho.. What a great pair to do in one show. 2 different kinds of scenarios. (:
      Makes me think/worry about my own 530 its an 07 but I think they are still the same setup. Lol
      Thanks Again

I got the fault soon after pressure washing under the car.. So at least I have an idea now on what to check, even though I don't have all the fancy tools that you have!

    Wouldn't be the purpose of the ground on the pump relay when is off is to despite the counter electric motor force when the pump is turned off and to prevent any undersigned power to turn the pump on ?

    The power side of the air pump is grounded when the relay is off to stop the pump motor spinning quickly (stop now). You will see the same thing on wiper motor park position switches to park the wipers qiuckly.

    • @GoTechTraining
      @GoTechTraining  6 лет назад +1

      Todd, I like the theory, but the pump takes time to wind down. It doesn't stop right away. Other ideas? :)

      Motors will create a large inductive current when disconnected, it is best to flow it to ground VS spike the power line. Most relays will have just a diode for the same reason.

    Is that valve supposed to be open or closed when off the vehicle?

  • @VinceKv57
    @VinceKv57 6 лет назад +1

    I hope you can answer. My E46 330i 2003 I still having the P0411 and is the only code getting
    I replaced the old valve and the one is also is new like this video it doesn’t have a vacuum hose. Pump works with no problem. Turns on 5 to 10 seconds, Hoses are new, Already checked the under the hood fuses 20A and they are all ok. And also the one inside the compartment box the Fuse 50A is good also. What a my missing? The Secondary Air Pump MAF Sensor or the Relay behind the fuse box in the compartment Box. That controls the SAP MAF? I would appreciate tons a response for this cause I truly can’t find it what’s the cause.

    • @GoTechTraining

      Hey Vinx, what about the valve that connects the AIR system to the exhaust? If that valve is bad all of that pumped air never makes it into the exhaust...

    Does the extra ground wire dissipate the energy left in the air pump motor because its still spinning after its turned off?

    • @GoTechTraining
      @GoTechTraining  6 лет назад +2

      Well done John, it gives the energy a path to ground. After the pump is shut off it goes from consuming power to creating power...that power needs somewhere to go.

    hello my air pump works the relay is new all fuses are good why i still have that code it doesnt turn on like it should the monitors are complete its only that one still blinking meaning is not complete and cant find the reason why can you tell me why ill appreciate your help thanks bro nice videos btw

    • @GoTechTraining
      @GoTechTraining  5 лет назад

      Hey Javier, thanks! It's possible you could have a restriction in the system. Maybe the air from the pump isn't actually getting into the engine? Most vehicles have valves/solenoids that could carbon up.

Guys like you, ScannerDanner, and DiagnoseDan are a godsend for guys like me (and I'm sure the actual automotive technicians out there as well). You do an awesome job of explaining the 'why' behind it all which puts everything into perspective and allows me to be more of a diagnostician vs a blind parts changer. How can I get a hold of you directly? (PM you) 2000 Malibu 3.1L vin code J secondary A.I.R. code P0410 keeps on popping up and Ivan fixed all of the vacuum leaks around that system but there is some kind of a vacuum solenoid that only runs with the A.I.R. during cold start! But I keep on getting told that it's called a A.I.R. diverter valve from one person then when I go to a auto parts store they list the check valves as the diverter valves and the A.I.R. diverter valve as a EGR CONTROL SOLENOID! I can send you pix of what I am talking about! U have screenshot shots! I also wanted to know if Wells makes these kind of parts. If so I would like the part numbers and where can I pick them up at!
