- Medical costs in the United States are soaring. It’s almost unfathomable how much it costs us for medical services and medications. Join me as I do some medical procedures in Hyderabad India and compare costs. Go on a medical journey as I get and ekg, ecg, echo cardio gram, X-ray, blood work, bone density scan, lung capacity tedd see t, hearing test, ultrasound, teeth cleaning, eye exam and sleep study.

I am an Indian and living in America for the past 10 years. I can say that, I appreciate a lot of things about America like the work culture, the environment protection, roads, public infrastructure, state and national parks. but, when it comes to healthcare, I can say that, indian healthcare is far better and accessible than US one. I have seen people going bankrupt because of the healthcare costs in USA.

This health model is being implemented all over the world now, so pretty soon the same shitty model will be seen in India too.
In government hospitals, treatments are free of cost and only need to buy medicines, which are not in their stocks

I am Japanese and now living in Canada and when I visited Kerala, South India, i decided to get braces for my Teeth and within 3 days of casting ,the braces were fixed and roughly cost me 50K YEN or 334 USD. The quality and level of service was on PAR with Japanese quality and Standards. I recommend every foreign tourist to go to South India for Medical Tourism

I did my braces too well I Indian living in uttarakhand India only It had different cost ranges here for both upper and lower jaw It was ₹28,000 rupees to ₹30,000 but there is still problem in upper jaw teeth I had gap after treatment too but had nothing to do with cost or quality it's just that didn't misses something that they should see overall it's expensive for Indian but overall comparison to other countries it's absolutely far better we had every year a medical exams for a best government medical colleges for both undergraduate and post graduate nearly 21 lakh Or million students give this exam to become doctor nearly 1M is only selected If I guess right soo there are too many doctors but still less for for our country population requirements :)

Biggest Advantage in India is the experience medical professionals have. They go through so much volume of patients that even the young ones are so experienced.

This volume advantage is good that one docter I visited listens to my symptoms, and without any tests, suggests that this sounds like the flue that around at that time and prescribed some medications directly - and boom, I am up and shining the next day.

Dude come on, Kuch bi. European health system has so many standards and they don't have enough people to operate under them. That's why they have the lag. India has standards to follow, but to an extent people follow it, and there's plenty people to work. You still need appointments if you go to specialists in cities. Stop bullshitting.

When in India,u will go to the quacks and less qualified Drs for cheap treatment and something bad happens u refer to the genuine centre expecting miracles which may not happen, so u beat and damage Drs.
When someone encounters medical expenses in Western countries, they remember and appreciate us.

I live in New Zealand. Once, a friend had a lump around his neck for months. He packed up his bags and went to India as the doctors in NZ couldn't figure out what it is happening after many blood tests. In India, they just removed the puss and he was fine within a week. Now, my doctors also suggest going to India to do a complete scan as it is not funded in NZ and private costs heaps. I can get a trip and the scans done in India out of the cost that I would pay here.

Not sure why such a snide comment. If local doctors can’t figure out the problem, I see no issue in trying to figure out what’s going on. Obviously you haven’t had any huge medical issue that you would do anything to resolve it. I’m happy this person found a solution to their problem. It sounds much more than “just a lab test” as you say was required.
India's Medical system and cost is unbelievable. So so sooo good and affordable. I love India. So much. Also their food is great(probably the best actually) their hospitality is great they got beautiful places to visit best places to shop. Just the Best country. I find any and every excuse to visit India.

For my sinus infection problems I was astonished when I came to know that their OPD patients check up are for completely free. ❤
And the medicine just cost me $10 😮

@TimmyTalksToday In fact nowadays we have even cheaper generics available do that it is affordable for everyone. Medicines for Diabetes which earlier costed roughly 8$ per month and now we have even cheaper generics that cost me 2$ per month. Now government has made a law which forces the doctors to only give generic names and not branded names

When you visit top private hospitals in Hyderabad Or Chennai, you see that most if the patients for surgeries are from middle east or African countries. Medical tourism is not new here.

Medical tourism in India is totally underappreciated and is like a high velocity undercurrent. Both the guest and reciepent haven't acknowledged openly about how great , good and gigantic it is. I hope many in western countries get aware of this and make use of this.

For all people living outside India, let me tell you with a guarantee, the amount of experience a medical student gets in his learning stage, is even far more than the qualified doctors abroad. That is so because of the immense population of India. That is why, the medical facilities are affordable and qualitative in India.

In Indian homes , outside shoes are not allowed inside the premises to keep the homes clean. The same is being followed by quite a few doctors and clinics too.

I am an Indian living in the UK. I really admire the NHS system here, but the waiting time is really pathetic. In my 2 years of living in the UK I have never got a chance to visit a doctor, because they only talk on the app or the phone call. So instead of waiting for the NHS, I just book a flight to Mumbai, meet my friends and family and get my check up done! I absolutely love the doctors and diagnostics centres in India. Indian doctors are smart and Very cost effective.

@Raj-yt9ny I once took my mom to the emergency room and from the time we went in to the time we were seen was about 7 hours. I’m glad it wasn’t an extreme

@@raviani82 India is investing more n more in healthcare as well r&d nowdays, private sector of hospitals are already on par with world class and govt sector also have many top grade institutions for almost free healthcare, it lacks required resources and staff but things are getting better with passing days...this is my honest review as an indian mbbs student
I am an Indian American living in US for the past 26 years. My parents live in Mumbai. My father had his knee replacement surgery done few years back. We did the surgery at a charitable hospital in Mumbai. This hospital is right next our house and that’s where they have been going for the past few decades for all their medical needs. Infact that is where I also used to go when I was a kid. This hospital does lot of free surgeries for poor people and they charge fees from the more affluent patients like us. I spoke to the surgeon who was going to do the surgery who explained the process to me in great detail. After meeting the surgeon I met the junior surgeon who was going to assist him. He turned out to be younger brother of a friend of mine. So I asked him, please tell me honestly if I should get the surgery done with this doctor in this hospital. He smiled and said I am not sure if you are aware, but both of surgeons sons are in US and one of them is an Orthopedic Surgeon. If I was given the option to choose a doctor to perform a surgery on myself, I would choose the senior surgeon any day. Infact both the US trained kids would pick their dad for the surgery. He is so good that he can literally perform this surgery blindfolded!! And as he predicted surgery went very well. My dad was able to walk again with out any issues. The total cost of the surgery including hospital stay and was less than $2k and the service was top notch!

@@mandarrane It might be Tata Memorial Hospital. Lots of cancer patients go there and I know that they have recovered and are doing well so I believe they are good. Also they give lots of free service, that's another reason it might be that (all the ones I know were middle class and got free treatment and paid only for their stay in Mumbai)

I'm in the Philippines and patients here go to India for certain procedures not available here.. such as liver transplant. They have the doctors and the cost is realistic. I think its the same for other Southeast Asian countries

@Jsje8ejn I actually have been to AIMS before. Sometimes in small cities they are the only place to go i agree that the cost is much cheaper for sure. BUT, those hospitals are designed for Indian citizens. While an occasional emergency visit might be fine, I wouldn’t send international visitors directly there for regular services. That a not fair to burden a Indian system with unanticipated foreigners. I do appreciate your comment and thanks again for watching. Timmy
True. The public healthcare system is albeit very rich and diverse, but it is always burdened because of very high patient load. It becomes impossible for the staff to be thorough in regular exams. For surgeries, it is a different story though
But private healthcare here for regular stuff is very affordable. Costs do climb for more serious issues and the middle class does suffer from that burden. But it is not like there is no other option, only that the public healthcare is very inconvenient in general.

India has some awesome cardiac surgeons. They do triple bypass surgery by the thousands every year, and they are great at it. My father had 2 bypass surgeries, the first one was open heart, and 2 stents put in, by different doctors in the past 30 years, and he is doing great. Fully recovery within 2 weeks of the bypass.

@@kantizx1I had 2 stents placed in my right coronary artery in December 2022 at UN Mehta hospital in Ahmedabad for total cost about 3000usd. They do about 30-35 angiograms and about 30-35 angioplasty/stent placements cases per day. I recommend them highly
312$ Dollar is crazy for Single derma visit . I was charged 22000 thousand rupees which is 266.69$ for my full Acne treatment of 4 months . Thanks for spreading awareness about this topic

What foreigners fail to realise is that private healthcare is expensive for middle class Indians because our wages are much much lower than those abroad. $200 spent in india is roughly the same as $1000 in usa. Goverment hospitals on the other hand are the epitome of crap

If a medicine is expensive, indian gov provides license and all the legal rights to local
Manufacturers to produce same medicine at a very low price.. and even if people cant afford , there are medicine shops opened by gov all over india which gives medicines 60-70 percent cheaper.. gov regulates price of every medicine..

I live in the US but I am of Indian origin (also born there). I've been in the US for 24 years but I rarely ever go to a doctor precisely for the reasons you highlighted in your video although I have good insurance through my employer. It is an outright scam. I spend top dollars in high quality healthy food plus exercise instead. I feel cheated even when I end up not paying all that much because my insurance absorbed it. The fact that they gouged the insurance company instead of me does not make it any less of a racket than it really is.

We had my brothers brain tumour surgery (with 6 days hospitalisation) for ₹300,000 ($3600) in Sep 2022 at H N Reliance hospital . The tumour came back & next time the surgery costed $2400 with 5 day hospitalisation. The hospitalisation included food n bed for an attendant as well. Could u let us know whats the cost of brain tumour surgery in the USA? Besides the surgery cost, what really costed a lot are post operation tests n medicines
It sounds like your brother is doing well now?? I hope so. I’m glad he was able to get good quality care. I don’t know the exact cost but I can say expensive. Hospital stays alone can be $300-$500 per day which would only cover room and board. Hospital stays are expensive and it wouldn’t surprise me if something like that was $50.000 plus. Of course if you have insurance, it would pay for some of that. If you have very good insurance maybe most of it. We also have county hospitals which are government and state run for people who are unable to pay anything. According to the figures of the Ministry of Tourism, the inflow of medical tourists coming from Bangladesh increased to as much as 83% in the last three years. While as many as 120,388 Bangladeshis came to India for medical treatment in 2015, this number increased to 221,751 in 2017. In Bangladesh, it costs 2-3 times more and may be bad treatment. More than 2 million tourists come from Bangladesh and 40% of them are medical tourists. all big hospitals in the south and Kolkata they talk in Bengali. Even famous indian heart surgeon Debi Shetty speaks Bengali. although he is from the South.

Nice video. Living in Sweden I miss the medical facility of India, It is so convenient just to walk and get our teeth fixed, cleaned or get blood test done. Even a small towns will have decent healthcare clinics with excellent doctors. BTW leaving a footwear out is more of a cultural thing in India and it is followed in most of the places even in workplace. I know it may be annoying sometimes but you will get used to it :)

My full body check kind of tests cost me many thousand dollars in US, then i decided to go to India for it. Rough estimations are ..return flight to india is 1200 usd, all tests + dental cost me around 200 usd, accommodation and vacation for week cost me around 1000 usd, so total cost me around 2500 usd , which is far less then USA and vacation is bonus.

you know I so appreciate that you chose my country and my city for a Medical tourism. yes that's right, you can get much more affordable but absolutely quality treatment (as you must have experienced by now) in India than what you can get in the Western countries (even your home). Infact the packages you bought at the hospital for the tests are actually considered quite costly for the average Indian and even cheaper options are available here in India (you gotta know the places though and need to be a Local/citizen).
Anyway, I so appreciate this video and I hope you spread more awareness so that more people in your country can get the help they really need without going bankrupt.
P.S. - Even you'll find cheaper generic medicines here in India (you'll need an Indian phone number for that though)

My friend was working in US cruise as a butler. During covid when whole world was suffering from covid virus he got attacked by coksackie virus which can damage any of the organ. His heart was working only 10% at that time he was admitted to keck hospital LA. There he was admitted for 2 month. Doctors told him heart transplant is the only option. Than he was transferred to HR reliance hospital byculla mumbai through air ambulance. Within a month he got a girl heart. After that his transplant operation started and today after 2 years he is perfectly fine.

My father had a heart attack. We went to a government hospital. It had all equipment for testing and medication. The tests were completely free. Doctors visit was exempted because of dad is senior citizen. Doctor said, his blockage had removed by itself. All free.

As an Indian staying in Sweden, all I can say is that our healthcare is the best! Take my personal experience as an example: Both my parents got Covid in November 2021 (in India) and I got the same too in December 2021. My parents had regular visit from the health authorities (FROM BBMP, Bangalore) and they even received their medications. They would call once a day (they did it for 3 days) and ask for the oxygen level. I was soo happy seeing this! MEANWHILE IN SWEDEN, When i just told the nearest clinic(under the purview of government) that I was down with Covid, all they said was 'OH, WE ARE VERY SORRY TO HEAR, PLEASE DRINK PLEANTY OF FLUIDS AND TAKE REST'. That's it and hung up! PS: This has happened to me personally and therefore many might agree that the medical facilities in Europe to are no match to the ones we have in India!

I worked in an outsourced call center in India where I had to help patients understand their obligations of the bills which their insurances won't cover and we also process insurance claims on behalf of the doctors. I was shocked to learn that doctors could charge patients by the mins 15 min, 30 min and so on. The charges for taking an X-Ray is different than reading the X-Ray (they'd call them technical charge and professional charge). You can't get medicines so easily without tons of lab reports even though the symptoms are very clear for a diagnosis. And the complicated system of CoPay, Deductible, Co insurance could make anyone's brains scramble like an egg to understand which charge is for what. In they end a lot of patients, especially the old ones would just give up to go through all the complex billing calculations and simply agree to pay whatever they're being charged. Healthcare in the US is no less than a mafia syndicate. For a person living on a minimum wage, even a regular disease could be like a death sentence or starvation (should pay the bill or buy groceries this week?). I tell my American friends they can have a luxurious vacation in India after getting the treatment for the cost they pay for healthcare there.

I remember my ENT specialist in US recommending me tympanoplasty (fixing holes in my eardrum). I asked the doctor how many such surgeries he had done. He said 5. I came to India and asked an ENT specialist the same question, his answer was more than 2000! I did my surgery in India and that was 20 years ago. No problem so far. So it is not just the cost but the experience of doctors can not be compared between US and India.

I am an Indian. In India, if you know the doctor and recommended by someone, generally they are more experienced than American counterparts. I had surgeries in both India and US, and I feel US doctors are more innovative and come up with new techniques and pain free treatment. Indian doctor, might not be that innovative, but they learn the techniques and become adept at them as they conduct far more surgeries than American counterpart.
But US is still better with insurance. I live in Canada now, where healthcare is marketed as free (although you pay high tax for it) but is terrible. You have to wait for weeks to even get X-ray or CT-Scan done. Someone I know had severe shoulder dislocation and the appointment to see specialist is 3 months away. She went to India and got her treatment done. 2 to 3 years of wait for getting knee replacement done.

Can you get healthcare in Canada like say emergency procedures like an Xray or CT for reasonable price if someone is willing to pay out of pocket ? Ex. in UK it's like an ultrasound/CT is 400 pounds if you pay direct and then you don't need to wait for NHS.. does Canada have these options as in US everything is so messed up with insurance companies etc.. Other points you made are so true - if it's new and novel procedure or therapy which has been introduced in the market recently then the US is the place to be; otherwise for routine procedures India is the place to go...

From what I know, Canada/UK/Australia/NZ medical are really bad. In UK, workers have no access to NHS or funds. You need to be at least on ILR to have access to public funds.
I don't think US things are messed up. I have lived in UK/Canada/US and I consider US as best country to live. Again, this is applicable if you are skilled in tech and have stable and high paying job in US. US might not be best place to live if you are not in tech/mathematics/scientific/medical occupations.

I'm from Tamil Nadu, India. from Coimbatore city specifically. Coimbatore is known as hospital city , we have over a hundred hospitals and more than 30 of them are large specialty centers. People all over the world come here for medical tourism. Most of the doctors here are either completed their studies in the U.S. or in Europe. They are talented and the hospitals are resourceful. The city is full of nursing institutes and hospital management education institutions. The availability of abundance of well educated nurses and patient care workers are a great plus. If you are planning for medical tourism, do visit Coimbatore you would be happier of the outcome of your decision. ⚕

My mother in Law had a heart attack ,I took her to Manipal Hospital Varthur. At around 2 AM within 2 Hours of the heart attack , she got her Angioplasty done. Total cost of her including her 4-5 days Admission + Surgery procedure was 4 Lacs and my wife got her covered under insurance so total co pay was only 50K INR with top notch medical procedure. Ortho and Cardio and Urology Dept have some best doctors in Manipal Varthur.
That is an amazing story! I hope she is doing well now. I want people to know the good service and price they will receive by having services done in India. It’s interesting that you bring up cost. I just today found the original bill for my EKG with Doppler that was discussed in the video and done at my local hospital. While my portion was $1400 for that service (117.500 rupees) the original bill they sent to my insurance company (and which someone without insurance would pay) was $9000 dollars or 755,600 rupees!!) for a test that was included in all the things I got in India for $60. (5000 rupees). I’m shocked at how much the hospitals in America just overwhelm people. Can’t even get sick in America. Thanks for sharing your story. i remember seeing a video of a doctor from uk on youtube, where he compared the medical prices in the states with the ones in uk, and i was shocked. there was no way an average middle class American family could afford normal surgeries/ treatments etc in US. so if average Americans are sufferings with financial issues and can't afford it in the US, you're always welcome to india. i would suggest you get yourself treated in our private hospitals, they are a bit costly for us (not for you) but definitely well maintained.

Medical prices in the U.K. are zero. Money is taken from your taxes to pay for the NHS - it’s equivalent to around £700 a year for me but depends on how much you earn (I’m a fairly high wage earner). If you don’t work you don’t have to pay at all. With that cost I get all care/ operations etc free.

The funny part is we Indians consider this to be expensive as well and are happy with traditional medicine, it will work great too. :) In India we have all forms of medicinal treatment available and you can take any route to good health, this I knew from my Canadian friend, who visited India and stayed here for close to 2 years.

Bro the minimum wage in India can be as low as 10k indian rupee.. I had two year experience after bachelor n i was earning 18k as a civil engineer so 300k sounds way too much... While American one dollar if i am not mistake is around 80 rupee so considering average American at the least make 3k a month with just 2 months salary he can have a blast while i have to take 2 years to collect the same amount so tell me why shouldn't Indian cry that hospital stuff is costly... They have the currency power n even u. As a Canadian has that... So ya i won't be judging Indians if i were u rather learn a bit about PPP which help u understand why Indian cry the way they cry😅😅😅😅😅

There is a well known charitable hospital in Bangalore called Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences. People can get complicated and expensive heart surgey done for free of cost and they have modern world class facilities. Not only Indian many people from neighbouring countries like Bangladesh, Nepal, Srilanka come here for treatment. I think they have branches in other Indian cites too.

There are nearly 10 dentist clinics in my neighbourhood, with Clove being the nearest, still never visited it at as it is the costliest. I was very surprised to know that rinsing with mouthwash before a dental checkup is not a regular practice in US. I have never known otherwise in India. Also had a mini heart attack on learning the cost of having an ECG in US. Never realised US was that costly even though I have lived there for few years. No wonder our NRI friends from UK, US ,Canada always stock up their medicines whenever they visit India. 😂. Also surprised that you could get antibiotics without prescription. Earlier pharmacies used to sell medicines without prescription, but now almost all the pharmacies around my place refuse to give medicines except OTC without prescription, especially antibiotics, neurological and sleep medicines because of stricter government norms.
If you want to see medical tourism in India, you should once visit Narayana Hrudayalaya hospital in Bangalore. You will feel as if you’re not in India but in Bangladesh or some Arab country. The hospital is full of patients from Arabian Peninsula and Bangladesh. In fact, one has much better chances of getting a job there if they know Bengali language as NH is a major crowd puller for Bangladeshi patients. It has a number of hospitals within a huge campus, with excellent medical facilities and staff. They love playing Robin Hood by looting the affluent class and treating poor people for minimum medical bills.

ECG costs rupees 100 in our private medical College hospital and is free for inpatients.
The treating doctor at his discretion can ask for waiving even the 100 rupees.

From my point of view All big hospitals of India should open their small desks in countries like US UK. Who informs all kinds of medical assistance for the patient there. Which is successful in India and that too in very less cost. The patient is always apprehensive. He needs the right path. The one who takes him in the right direction. The patient of any disease should know about the hospital, about the facility and about the arrangement there. Inform all kinds of information about the expenses. So that a cheap and good way can be known for the patient there. Without any hassle.

I genuinely want more and more ppl in western world who r not able to pay for their health issues to visit India and get their medical needs well attended for a fraction of the sum they spend in their home. We have amazing hospital chains across the country with top notch professionals and managements which takes care of ur air tickets, transport and stay the A to Z of ur travel itinerary, if u need them. Pls guys don't postpone or avoid health issues coz of ur " System" not supporting u, there r alternate options available.

Taking shoes off helps prevent dirt and other contaminated stuff from entering into machines/areas. Also, it's cultural as it shows respect. I mean you won't really have that many infections through the feet/foot, but can wear socks if it makes you feel safer/comfortable.

For $250 per year you can also get a medical cover for your whole family in India for about $100k . You can literally have a heart transplant, kidney transplant and cancer treatment but you wouldn't finish that $100k in a reasonable hospital in India

In India the concept of medicine and surgery dated long back and often done by a very very educated and wise person(yes women too were physician back then) of that field unlike the west where barbers were called the healer.
For centuries education and medicine were practiced by the "rishi-munis" ( the "wise devotees" ) and they charged nothing or very less for their services. So, in India we treat those two professions not as a profession rather a noble task/job . In Indian news you can often find the concern over "businessization of education" or "businessization of healthcare" that's because of western influence.

As an Indian American, I typically go to India for my healthcare needs. I have a lot of family that goes back and forth from the states. My inhaler in the US costs $350 to $400 with insurance. In India the same thing costs $2. I once ended up in the hospital in the US because of food poisoning. A 4 hour stay after insurance cost me $3500. In India, my sister caught a virus and spent 7 days in the hospital. That cost us a total of $350-$400.

In India is tropical climate country.. normally we find lot of dust... Floating on roads and all places...Some medical equipment machines are dust sensitive...For proper maintenance and reduce fine dust in test rooms. They ask to remove footwear...

Reason for removing sandals / shoes is that our footwear contains more bacteria than our feet. As you walk arround on the indian roads and pavements, footwear become dirty. This is one way not letting the outside harmful things inside doctors offices. Same principle applies for homes as well, thats why we remove our foortwear. Keeping all the harmful things outside.

It was a very interesting video. I hope your country men learn something from it, because most of them are under an impression that India is some very backward country. We have our own issues, but fleecing a patient in not done. We have world class facilities be it medical, IT, education etc

I am an Indian American and I always wait to get my full body check up every year in India. The same high level health care that you can get in the US at maybe 5% of the cost. Even with the air ticket it turns out mayb 60% cheaper than getting it done in the US. More Americans should go to India instead of paying ridiculous rates in the US

I am living in NewZealand for past 15 years and do these checkups on every visit to parents in India . I went through endoscopic sinus surgery for roughly 1500 NZD in India . The same would cost me 18000 NZD in NZ .I see the value now .
