Morrissey's solo career doesn't get the credit it deserves for how varied it is, he's got a song for every mood and situation! Great tune even greater album, the last one Mick Ronson, producer and ex Spider from Mars worked on before he died. You should react to I Know its gonna happen someday from the same album then listen to David Bowie's cover!
"I used to dream and I used to vow - I wouldn't dream of it now" another of Morrissey's hilarious lines. This album is my favourite. Mick Ronson's production was superb.
Always loved this one. Unlike the Sex Pistols, he has a way of making nihilism and hopelessness romantic. Sonically, this also echoes his obsession with glam rock. You HAVE to do more early Roxy Music (I know you did Avalon, but that's their later, commercial phase) and the New York Dolls. Morrissey was the president of the Dolls fan club in the UK and wrote a book about them!
This set up with the 4 musicians you mentioned was probably the closest Moz got to being in another band. They were a band in all but name. And I think that really came across in this album.
Once again a great reaction! A great song, but not one of his best imo. You should definitely react to “What Kind of People Live in these Houses?”. It’s from his latest album and has some of his wittiest lyrics backed with a beautiful jangly guitar track
Morrissey really isn't an England first kinda guy. He's spoken about feeling out of place in England due to his Irish-immigrant parents and extended family and this theme is explored many times in his work. He doesn't vote Conservative either and never has. In fact, he refuses to vote at all. He may be confused by online discourse/briefly taken in by fringe political figures but ideologically he's very much on the left.
This song is ranked as one of his bests? Really? It's a cool song, but it's far from one of his best, in my opinion. You should listen to "Ganglord", "My life is a succession of people saying goodbye", "The never-played symphonies", "Istanbul", "I will see you in far-off places", "My love I'd do anything for you", "All the young people must fall in love", "What kind of people live in these houses?", these are the ones that I like the most (it's my opinion) and you haven't heard yet.
I'm a GD & PH fan. & This is pure 🔥💯

The first track on this is a banger
‘You’re gonna need someone on your side’ Agreed, one of his best Album openers, in my opinion.
React to Speedway!!!

Every song on Viva Hate, Bona Drag and all the accompanying b-sides could easily be Smiths tunes.

alan whyte. great composer who made wonderful songs for morrissey to sing. something was lost for good when he walked away.

Tune that, 'Once I Saw the River Clean' is superb too, one of his best ever songs in my view.
A real homage to Glam Rock. There's even an instrumental bit in the song that sounds like it could be a Gary Glitter riff!!

Finally someone acknowledges 'What Kind Of People Live In These Houses?', class tune!
