Karnivool is one of my favorite bands while they are possibly the most dynamic band in years. Karnivool sits up their with Thrice in their ability to show variety in their melodies and styles and still show tremendous skills and love for their music. Can't wait for their new album.
I feel like I'm at an early 90's tool show.
saw them last night at a tiny club in MN, was easily one of the top 3 shows ive ever seen. i brought three friends who had never heard them before and they were all speechless.
the crowd totalled 50 or 60 people who payed just 7 bucks to get in, but it was one of the strongest crowds ive been a part of. Now, this is definitely one of my favorite bands

You have to say that this is an insane live song and his voice never changes even after 8 mins he does a huge note and it doesnt change once.

saw them in sydney in 2010 at the same venue. Ian Kenny and the band are absolutely amazing, if you dont believe it is possible, Karnivool performed Deadman a whole lot better that night. Would see them anytime they are in my home town. Vool fan for life.
I can say as my personal opinion that this is amazing. I could care less what anyone else may post or say, this is one of the best bands I have ever heard both live or on CD in my life and I am super excited for what they have in store for their next albums. Tight!

I saw them in a small Venue in Denver over the summer...just wow. They blew my mind and everyone else's who was there. An expereince to remember.
I can't imagine hearing this song or any others from Sound Awake by itself. The songs just sound so amazing and have so much more depth in the context of the whole album. Sound Awake from beginning to end is absolutely perfect.
I have absolutely loved karnivool since the first time I heard them, and this is them at their best. I can't wait for the new album!

ME! Im gunna call it, sound awake is the greatest album of all time, cant get enough of it. Im 34 and haven't been so amped about a band like this ever. goin to see them at Ferntree gully gig too. Enjoy and have fun.

How can some people say this is awful???? Obviously, whoever is saying this doesn't play any instruments and really doesn't appreciate music. This is a masterpiece by Karnivool..... AWESOME.... And to top it off, IT'S FUCKING LIVE!!!! How many bands can pull off this stage presence and sound LIVE.??? Very few!!!!

I really enjoy it when I see a good band and the bassist uses fingers over a pick. Sweet bass tones.
i saw karnivool at southbound and they played a song which on the set list said set fire, then i was later told that its goin to be called set fire to the eye. if u like the more heavy karnivool then u will like that song. even tho noone had heard the song before the crowd was still goin nuts! has the roar emotion that there building into there songs plus a heavy beat. fucking awesome. cant wait for the new album

Karnivool come up with some amazing songs. The lyrics and melodies they come up with are simply incredible. You guys are forgetting this was a live performance of a song that I don't think had been recorded yet. No doubt they would have made some changes to it, not that it needs many changes.

Just found out about this band through Pandora. I haven't heard any recent noise about new material coming out, only that they are playing gigs. i bought both CDs. really like Sound Awake. Hopefully they are working on the next CD as this band has really grown on me. A tour in the US would be f'g epic!!
Good news. We're filming their Sydney Metro show on 25th June. New album live, can't wait! Will post when whole gig is up on Moshcam.

Great Band! The lyrics ara amazing!
In an interview Drew said some of the songs will be 'vool tuning' but they're also experimenting with other tunings, and there will be ones like this song where they use Capo's etc.
I love karnivool but i wish they would just release there new album already i've been waiting for 3 years already and this just makes me more excited and impatient cant wait! cant wait! cant wait!

He went to USA and recorded Birds Of Tokyo earlier this year. He returned for a Birds of Tokyo tour in Australia along with the album release. He then had a bit of a break and is now in the process of recording Karnivool's second album. Pretty straight forward to be honest.
Obviously doing the odd gigs and festivals along the way also. Both birds and vool will be playing at falls, or is it pyramid? I dunno it's one of them, interesting. Birds @ BDO, Vool there also would be fantastic!

I don't doubt it, one of the reasons I was drawn to Karnivool was the amazing way tracks like COTE and Fear of the Sky changed time signatures seamlessly. All i'm saying is it's wrong to think of the 'Vool as one of the most complex bands when it comes to such elements of music.

is is a very unique karnivool sound and from a musians point of veiw its quite a complex pattern when you listen closely

You're right, Meshuggah do push the limits, but the thing about Karnivool is their ability to mix up the sigs seamlessly. Not necessarily the most complex, but they are slick.

Also the beginning in the recorded version: "changing the tone changing my mind changing the weather." He flips them in this performance. I believe that's due to this being performed before Sound Awake was released so it probably wasn't completely decided upon yet.

What you need to remember is, Deadman is 10 minutes long and who knows how long the full version of New Day is. Set Fire To The Hive was released first for two reasons in my opinion.
1. It's the most commercial song they have to choose from on the new album, without being over 6 minutes long.
2. There's a message in the lyrics that I'm sure Kenny and the others want to send to the public.
Which proves one thing.
We're going to get some weird shit on the new album.
