    The whole Sound Awake album is a masterpiece, it's an introspective journey. The dynamics and tension create an ebb and flow which keeps you waiting for the climax, but once it hits, you climax.
    New Day and Deadman are probably the best examples of this

    The ending of the track is change pt. 1, which was a re-recording of a song from their first album. The next song on the album is "Change pt. 2" and i must say it's their best song to me by a long shot. It's fantastic. I'm glad you enjoyed this and my last hope is for you to experience Change part 2. as well.

    what you listened to earlier was themata, wich is from their first album, and to be honest the album themata and sound awake are completely different worlds, on themata they had a very straight foward sound, with some prog elements, like C.O.T.E, fear of the sky, or even Scarabs wich is their heaviest song, or even songs like Lifelike wich sound more Nu-Metal than anything, Tho I still love that song. On Sound awake you really get to experience their true musicianship and its really where you get to hear the progressive sound, if you'd like me to recommend a few songs from sound awake i'd go with New Day, Goliath, and All i Know. But you have to give '' new Day '' a listen, for video purpose or not, its just worth every second of it.

      Aenima it’s funny that so many fans love new day. It’s actually my least favorite song on the album. Still good, just not my favorite.

    The end bit is an interlude for the next track called change part 2, change part 1 is the last track on the first album. I've seen them live twice and they have been better live than on CD. The one you saw was an old recording and they were still young they've matured and grown a lot in studio and live on stage. Have a listen to them covering hey now live in the studio.

      Yeah the other clip he watched had awful mixing and sound quality. I would recommend either "Alpha Omega" or "We Are" from their latest album. They have a much more developed sound and song structures.

    Definitely give some of there live videos another go, I’ve seen them countless times being I live in Australia were the band is from, hands down one of the best live bands I’ve ever seen and I’ve been to many live shows, festivals and gig, I’m seeing them in a couple of months and I’m extremely excited, as others are saying, check out change part 2, one of my personal favourites

  • @RaEeSir

    I don't know what live performance you saw previously, the quality of that video or quality if that particular performance but every time I have seen Karnivool they have been amazing. They're a really tight live band. Obviously, the quality of a live performance can come down to many variables from the musicians just having an off night, the sound on stage and the sound of the venue itself. Ultimately, it's down to the musicians but the sound on the stage can throw them off if it's not right.

    I'm so happy that u pick this song is one of the best ones in the album, I know that u cannot review the whole album on RUclips but I recommend you to do so because is an epic album in the progressive world not only because of the complexity of it but for the emocional point of view of the lyrics! Is a real masterpiece.

    Thank you for giving them a second chance Jim, may we hope for a third? Their latest album shows even more progression and I would suggest We are, Aeons or maybe Eidolon. I have seen them live by the way and they were awesome. A small venue in Norway, af all places :-) also enjoy their lyrics and was happy when you commented on that part of their talent

    Don't blame Karnivool for a crappy sounding mix of their live gig. When the mix is done correctly they sound *_AMAZING_* live! 👍 👍
    Karnivool - Aeons (Ghost City Sessions): ruclips.net/video/6z_alJd8Oyc/видео.html
    Karnivool - We Are acoustic-ish version (triple j): ruclips.net/video/10xwyADw4gI/видео.html
    Those mixes sound great and show just how good Karnivool is live. They are certainly not just a studio band.

    I’m late to the party on this but anyway, my 2 cents: I’ve seen Karnivool live 6 times and they were brilliant each and every time. I’m sure they have off days but I’ve never witnessed one in person. Definitely recommend seeking out their show if they’re ever in your neck of the woods.

    If youre looking for more Vool, I'd chuck in Aeons from the Asymmetry album personally. Complex and really powerful. Jim - there's a RUclips video from their ghost city sessions live studio stuff which is awesome, and proof they don't suck live. A second band to have a look at, as I know you love Tool, check out some Puscifer. Its Maynard James Keenan with different artists. Not as heavy but the vocal harmonies are amazing... Try the Arsonist maybe?

    Great reaction, Karnivool have some great songs, the song outro/intro goes to change pt2, fantastic song, Goliath from the same album, Nachash, A.M. War and We Are from the Asymmetry album. If you want to see how good they are live watch the triple J Like a version of We Are after you watch the original to get blown away!!

    Themata is where it started. It's definitely not wrong. If you don't like that, that's quite alright. If you were planning to bench them, I'm glad you're giving them a second chance. Karnivool has a different style. Than what I seem to deem as your classical progressive rock style, but they've got a great dynamic and a great musical interest which makes them produce well thought songs and records. Not too fan of the latest, but I love their first and second record to death.

  • @PsychedelikMonk
    @PsychedelikMonk 6 лет назад +6

    Odd thing is, they're an amazingly tight live band... I've seen them a dozen or more times. Yet it's really tough to find a good live recording... Definitely stick to their studio tracks until they come to your town.

    • @PanasonicTooth
      @PanasonicTooth 6 лет назад +1

      There's a couple of songs they did from I think Ghost City Studios, in particular "Alpha Omega" which is breathtakingly good. Also there's an acoustic live studio performance of "The Last Few" which rules.

  • @transient442
    @transient442 6 лет назад +1

    The last track you listened to was off of their first album. This one is off their second record they found themselves from that point on. They are a great live band it's just the song that coloured your perception of their abilities or lack their of when it comes to performing live

    Hi Jim. I'm going to recommend you look into these three Australian bands: 'The
    Butterfly Effect' formed first. The singer, Clint Boge, has the best
    rock voice I have ever heard. The band disbanded. Clint went on to sing
    with 'Thousand Needles In Red'. Then with 'Like Thieves'. (The Butterfly
    Effect have toured twice since they disbanded !!!... Their farewell
    concert in Melbourne is on RUclips in its entirety). All three bands
    founded in Brisbane.
    The songs I'm recommending are:
    World on Fire by the Butterfly Effect
    Into Eternity by Thousand Needles In Red
    Killing Reason by Like Thieves

    Please don’t hate on Kanivool live lol. People make a mistake of listening to a bands first offerings on these reaction videos. It’s like listening to one of tools first songs. You can’t compare those to anything off laturalus. The song from your first video they where still trying to find themselves in terms of what their sound was. Their early stuff was more Nu metal 2000s mtv rock. Sound awake and the following album are amazing and is even better live.

    Now It's time to ''Change'', that song sounds great after ''Deadman'' outro, in fact that outro is some kind of intro for ''Change'', probably their most complex, most dynamic song, along with ''Sky Machine''.
    Also, Karnivool usually sounds great live, I don't really like Ian's vocal (he is superb singer but too much high notes for my taste) but the whole band sounds excellent live (moshcam audio mix isn't perfect).
    Example: ''Goliath'' with amazing intro: ruclips.net/video/-tUKgp0HLio/видео.html
    Dat Bass: ruclips.net/video/fWYSwmbxNW4/видео.html

      Actually on second thought, my choice would definitely be "The Spine" off the same album. Even better would be the live version from the Big Day Out festival. Karnivool are actually an incredible live band the Themata live video you watched was not an accurate representation it was a combination of a bad/different performance and a bad song choice for a live version for someone that isnt already familiar with the song

    I did not see the first live go, nor your final response to this (had to stop) but have my own opinion to your reaction while listening. Some music requires a musicians take and you appear to not be a musician. That is absolutely fine for what this is but its clear that you do not understand more then comparison music appreciation. The comparing to porcupine tree is just an example..... You left out Riverside. Moving on

  • @Boganiacal0

    Porcupine tree is so sick music wise. Most of the time the vocalist is cheesy as hell
