    Type 2 diabetes is clearly the result of poor nutrition. my sister took metformin for 10 years. what for? she couldn't get rid of her diabetes. I persuaded her to try the ketogenic diet, cutting out sugar, fruit, bread and snacks. after a year she had normal blood sugar levels, normal blood pressure and lost 20kg. She is now drug free and only eats 2 meals a day. I'm proud of her

    I’ve been a type 2 diabetic for over 15 years. Eleven years ago I was prescribed Metformin and had a terrible reaction. I became so dehydrated so quickly that I wound up in the hospital. I was taking lithium and the dehydration caused lithium toxicity to the point that I had what my doctor called a chemical stroke. It took me two years to learn to talk again, a year before I could walk without a cane, and I still have memory loss and some speech aphasia. Three years ago I changed my lifestyle and everyday I learn as much as possible about this disease that affects so many of us. Thank you for your informative videos! It’s great to have reliable sources.
    BTW - I’ve lost 80 pounds, gotten off of all diabetic meds including insulin, brought triglycerides down from 1800 to 75. My A1c was 14.8 with insulin and glyburide when I started this change its now 6.2 with no medication or insulin.

    I was prescribed metformin about 35 years ago for type 2 diabetes. I take 2 1000mg tablets daily and break the pills in half, taking them 4 times daily. I am now 80 years old and the only side effect from metformin I might be seeing is the possible longevity one. Along the way I have had my B-12 checked and it was right in the middle of where it should be. Also. my kidney function is checked often and remains normal. I did start taking a B12 supplement even though my B-12 was normal because it's not going to hurt anything. Never had the diarrhea problem from metformin, but now that I am 80 I am often constipated. I suppose that could be the metformin, but I think just getting old is more likely. There is a reason for the old people and eating prunes advice. Metformin works for me and it's free with my insurance............so far...so good....

They are not gods and you know yourself far better than they often wanna give you credit for. Right now I'm looking for a better doctor myself. I'm wondering if I can get off insulin because my A1C has consistently been in the 4.3-4.8 range with only 17 units of insulin. I changed my diet totally and it shows.

My endocrinologist doctor here finally put me on delayed /slow release Metformin, and that stopped most all of diarrea symptoms. Took a week or so for it to work, but is good now. WE must cut out refined carbs and use our meds to survive, also walking and exercise daily. I need to lose 30 lbs and would do better. I try to eat three times within 10AM to 7PM, no snacking in between meals. I am 66years old, have my fasting blood sugar around 100 and feel my health has improved. @Ben There you can use ginger to keep your blood sugar down. I don't know how it works but I stopped Metformin for a couple of months to see if I was suffering from a side effect (I was not) and successfully used only ginger powder mixed with a little Aspartame mixed in water. I found that my neuropathy was reversed when I started vitamins B-12 as well as Folic Acid and B6. Not sure whether the Folic Acid and B6 had any effect on the neuropathy but I took them for another condition and started all three at the same time.

After hearing Metformin was used in anti-ageing medicine, I always thought I was fortunate to be using it as I have been able to control my blood sugar really well for the last 10 years. I now realize that all my problems regarding bloating pain and a host of other problems are related to Metformin. Periods of being housebound etc. Liver and kidney as well. The amazing thing is the many specialists I have seen, procedures I have had, and all referred from other doctors over the last 5 years, not one mentioned Metformin could be the problem.

Today my diet included kosher fish while another day I might eat a kosher all beef 1/4 hotdog with no bread. I also put 2 tablespoons of ground flax and 1 teaspoon of ground seseme seed in my bulletproof herbal tea. My Bulletproof herbal tea is an herbal tea because of all those spices and I add cayenne pepper and nutmeg to that tea along with coconut oil, olive oil, flax seed oil and 35% whipping cream to the mix along with lots of iodised salt and potassium cLoride and my herbal tea is blended 3 times. Once with a small amount of hot water to steep the herbs and spices and then I add the other ingredients and blend again and then I add to additional cups of hot water and blend again. Right now I'm using Berberine and Mulberry leaf extract.with a restrictive diet and blood sugar running 88 to 125. I have also used bitter melon with good results. Tossed the insulin on week 3 when blood sugar dropped to 30. Royal jelly and Cinnamon mimick insulin and seems to work for me

      Bobbie, I have been taking Berbine for over a year now. As a three in one. Berbine , Ceylon cinnamon and Tumeric. I have fasting blood sugars on your range also. I eat keto lifestyle as well. I love the combo as I have no inflammation now but I am still taking metformin, I haven't been able to replace it as my fasting numbers over a week go up considerably. Hoping my new endo can look at other possibilities as to why. I do love the berbine though.

    What has worked wonders for me is lifting (hypertrophy style workout) on an empty stomach. Apparently resistance training causes these "gluts"(that's an acronym) to translocate within the cell to the surface of the cell and these "gluts" actually pull glucose out the bloodstream & into the muscle. I have checked myself and my blood sugar levels pre-workout to post workout is significantly lower.

    I have been on metformin for about ten years and I still experience diarrhea about once or twice a week from it. I am retired so it is manageable. If I was still working in sales where I had a very large territory that required lots of driving I would never take it. Before a flight, a long car trip, or going out to dinner I take a couple of Imodium which works quite well.

    Thank you for this information! My Doctor has been vocal about me taking metformin! I keep saying no because it caused nausea that had me in the fetal position and I gained about £30! I am now on Onglyza and sometimes Glipizide. I have Hashimoto thyroiditis and I have gluten issues, I see that my glucose levels spike even though I’m eating healthy! I would like to take something natural. The natural medicine you described sounds like a better alternative.

    • @dalesupertramp9234
      @dalesupertramp9234 Год назад

      Metformin is a natural product. It comes from a plant called “Goat’s Rue.” It got its name because goats would eat it in fields, then suffer low blood sugar and pass out.
      It helps to take it with food, and there is an ER version you could ask for that is more tolerable because it dissolves slowly. It has much less risk of hypoglycemia, which is one reason doctors would rather you take it instead of drugs like Glipizide that have a higher potential to cause hypoglycemia.

    I tried metformin, extended-release version. Virtually no GI or other side effects save one, which was quite unusual: it made me feel emotionally flat and depersonalized. I was only on it for two months, so there's no way it would have affected my B12 levels enough to cause the depression-like symptoms I experienced. B12 levels were good before I went on the medication. Doctor won't prescribe insulin, because I am already substantially overweight and he is concerned about the insulin causing weight gain, and he also feels insulin is 'fiddly' to work with.
    So, on to sitagliptin. Should be interesting to see how that works. Doctor tells me it won't be quite as effective as metformin.
