      That is unfortunate. I have the same feeling when I walk around in the coat. Maybe if you shorten it too a short jacket it is not so army like. There great anyway......

    These old wool military coats are excellent. I got a 50 year old Bulgarian Army coat (made in Russia, I think because it was the time of the "Cold War" and the wool is very rough like their own old greatcoats).
    It cost £100 which seems a bit pricey but it is lined with sheepskin. It was very smelly from the 50 year storage and mothballs, but after a long time of airing it is now a beauty. After I bought it at that price the army surplus store I bought it from put the price up to £150 when they realised how rare it was ! The unlined version of the same coat is still £30.

      Is it the one with red piping on the collar and shoulders? I've not seen any sheepskin lined ones, good find.

      @@ozzyv3419No, there are no markings on it...they had a lot of mountain troops and if you were sitting about in-between battles in the snow you would need some serious warmth. It is heavy - wouldn't fancy running in it.

    This was very helpful. I have one of these in a later model probably 70s or 80s, I think. The colour is the same or similar, depending on my monitor's ability. Plastic buttons NO back strap. I wish there were. I thought that a belt would have been issued with it because of the loops on the side, so I have been searching for info about the details of the coat. My lining is full length and the coat has buttons inside around the collar and down the either side of the front- looks like a another liner could be added. The size info was very useful to me, as well. My coat was supposed to be a "small", but it fits very large, the numbers inside read 38r. I was going through it to get the size and try to gauge with what ever else is out there, as I was considering a trade or getting another coat in an appropriate size. One of my favorite details of my coat is that the sleeves are lined with a pin striped fabric.

    • @traveler5898
      @traveler5898  3 года назад

      Hi, I never got my hands on a newer model. It seems that every decade they had their models changed. The liners in your coat sound a lot nicer. Thanks for sharing your info. That may help others as-well. Hope you get the one you like in the end.
      Greetings Wim

      Very late reply, but I think the version with the back strap might be what officiers used, while the strap-less would be what low ranked people would receive. I might be wrong however, but I think it makes sense because back in the days swiss higher officiers received a very fancy hat, while others would not. Nowadays everybody gets the same one (Mutz Taz 90), the only difference is the rank insignia.

    Very nice coat, Sir, where did you find it? I have a long dark blue airforce coat myself. (also wool) Very heavy and warm. In a pinch you could use it as a blanket while camping. I also like ''houtje-touwtje-jassen'' (duffel coats), have several in my collection. Take care and I'm looking forward to the next video.

      Hoi Erik,
      Ik neem aan dat je Nederlander bent.......
      Ik heb de jas gevonden in een legerdump (militarycollectables4you) een Nederlandse winkel. Ze hadden deze in verschillende maten en per toeval deze uit begin jaren 40 gekocht. Blauw is wel een wat bruikbare kleur. grijs/groen blijft toch een beetje militair. De jas is lekker warm en functioneel. Zal ook eens kijken naar duffel coats. Een volgende video zal wel weer even duren, met Corona gaat het allemaal wat minder snel......
      Groet Wim

    • @traveler5898

      The run a bit big. I am pretty slim build and i can wear a thick sweater underneath. So buy the size that you measure. In my case armpit to armpit is really 50 cm. there are some specs at the end of my video. You can maybe roll the cuffs down a bit and press them in a new shape to make them longer.
      Hope you like the coat, good luck.
      PS if you buy it make shore you can send it back for an other size.
