@antongordon1895 but I never claimed that one band is the best like the OP did. So yes, I agree with you. I think that at this level, the top bands are pretty evenly matched.
@@mbell985 yeah so basically Hebron definitely is on another level musically but they get beat by bands like Avon because Avon has better show design and visuals
@@LiamHiatt After watching GN this year, I do not agree that Avon and Carmel were THAT much better visually. I believe their GE scores were overinflated.
Hebron is the best band in the country! No disrespect to the GN Champs but this show was just better. More dynamic. I really wish they would move the GN Championship to somewhere central and get judges that are not so biased towards the bands in that area.
No offense to you and certainly not to Hebron (I thought their win in Music was WELL deserved), but the judging panel was from all over the country. True, one was from Indiana, but as best as I can remember, one was from Oregon, one from New Mexico, one from New England, and I believe one was from Texas. (I just tried to find the panel online but couldn't find it anywhere; that's just what I remember being announced)
In fact, no judges on the Finals panel were from Texas. Two, however, were from Indianapolis, including Randy Greenwell, who judged music effect and had no Texas bands in the top 3. In fact, he gifted Avon and Carmel rather large margins. He thought Carmel was 3.5 points better in music effect than The Woodlands, who was his 4th place band. Absurd, by the way!

This performance was truly DCI caliber! WOW! The show flowed seamlessly, and every transition was smooth and impressive. They never stopped moving, and when they did, it was for powerful choreography. These Hebron kids are putting in an incredible amount of work, and they absolutely deserve recognition for their amazing effort. so Hats off to Hebron! You've won gold in our hearts, trophy or not. I really wish Highschool marching bands were this cool where I live in the north bay in California, like everyone seems so involved and there’s so many of those very involved performers, making a bigger and better sound.
The repertoire is as follows: Ein Heldenleben mvt 4 by Richard Strauss Enter the Galaxies by Paul Lovatt-Cooper Reflections of Earth by Gavin Greenaway Holding Out For a Hero by Dean Pitchford and Jim Steinman Red Sea by Hans Zimmer Something by Howard Shore(maybe Khazad-dum)? Go the Distance by Alan Menken Original music by Michael Martin and Dave Glyde
Fantastic. I dont mean to make even the slightest negative comment, but a 300 member marching ensemble is a bit odd. I'd like to see it cut down a bit. Or have them make better use of their size. Why so close together most of the time? Have them spread out over the entire field.
they’re as spread out on the field as you realistically want to get. there needs to be a fine balance between being visually dynamic and keeping the performers close to the audience where they’ll be heard; this show does that pretty well. pushing people further backfield increases the distance between any two performers and makes it harder for those in the back to see drum majors (which is a flat out necessity with bands this big, you cannot listen to other parts of the field for tempo due to speed of sound). 300-350 members is actually a pretty good spot to be for a band like this. the bigger the band, the bigger the sound after all. a good number of competitive bands sit around this size. hell, my college band frequently sits at 500+ members and we make it work.
Jeeezzz The music prowess is spectacular. it's just those visual that lacks year over year for Texas imo I just wished UIL allowed Texas program's access to visual assignments and practice pre-August 1st! Once UIL realizes they are not the only standard in Marching Arts it's going to allow these already stellar programs to constantly shine on the National stage like nothing ever seen before!
@@texanboiii562 I would say the Midwest as a whole come November. TBF they do get to see and practice those assignments a whole month earlier than Texas programs plus their overall music demand is mid to low compared to what some of these Texas programs are pumping out year over year. Hope that helps
