Glad you enjoy them! Of course we'd love to win first place every time (who wouldn't?) but our directors emphasize that winning is secondary to connecting with the audience; making them feel something. The scores are just a way to earn another chance to perform, to connect with another audience. If you felt something and if you remember that feeling then that's a win... regardless of how the judges quantified the technicalities of our performance and ranked them against the technicalities of others' performances. I felt that as an audience member when Hebron took the field. Amazing performance, amazing show! Also, Hebron students or parents that see this, what is the story/tradition behind your on field warmup song? I’ve never seen anything like it?
@@thereallore1268yes because the Indiana bands go every year. if Hebron had gone last year or penstriped year, it would have been game over, and Vandegrift this year literally got a higher score at boa SA than Avon got at GN finals. For the Indiana bands, it’s so much cheaper to go but the Texas bands are usually regarded as better even though they usually can’t attend nationals.
@@Monke2120I can tell you exactly what happened. Avon traveled to several BOA regionals in 2017 including the Alamodome. They performed their Old Hundredth warmup as per usual but tossed in a Yellow Rose of Texas ending on it to honor and thank Texas for their hospitality. Then in finals they set one of the highest scores at the stadium. Alas, 3 other bands had better scores. Regardless, all the students and staff at Avon that year appreciated the kindness and welcoming of Texas especially FloMo for hosting. You would be surprised that other than size, Indiana and Texas raise their kids very similarly: with respect and kindness as if each was a neighbor.

glad to see I'm not the only one that's baffled on how Hebron is not the Champion. No doubt Avon and Carmel are amazing, but no where close to the level Hebron is on.
Hebron had wonderful music but their visuals hurt them. People need to also recognize that although hebrons music is phenomenal, Carmel had deceptively hard music, and Avons wasn't too far behind. There is so much more to music than what Hebron does and other bands happen to do it but it's not appreciated nearly as much as it should be. So while Hebron is ahead in music, people exaggerate just how much, and don't even realize the gap caused in visuals.
@@thereallore1268 Well, due to cost, you don't get all of TX top bands every year to make it a true head-to-head competition of best on best. I am happy to congratulate Avon & Carmel for taking #1 and #2 at Grand Nats. Unlike others, I'll also say it was well deserved. But I'm gonna call BS on any notion that any of TX's top 8-10 bands couldn't go anywhere else and finish consistently in the top 3...and in many cases win. (Case in point, in 2019, Vandy finished top of Grand Nat prelims, semi-finals and Finals. And, I'll admit that Reagan might have even had a stronger show that year...so it MIGHT have been Vandy, Reagan and Hebron in top 5 spots had Reagan made the Indy trip. Also, this year Westwood, who didn't even make SA finals, went to St. Louis Regional and took 3rd ahead of Bentonville, a Grand Nat finalist.) And, the same set of judges go across the country and judge these BOA events. So, with a common judging pool, your claim of inflation in TX is just pure BS.
@@iainoam2565Carmel has hard music? No 8th, 16th and no Horn section valve demand? Trumpets never run. Hmmm, 2022 and 2023 state UIL tells a different story. Oh, but I guess those judges got it wrong too. lol. Maybe we can all find judges, referees and umpires that just agree with all of us. Oh, wait, they do🤔
A standing ovation at grand nats is crazy. But hey that's our hebron and team texas for you. I'm already thinking about their next appearance. Why can't they go every year 😒
lol. No way. Sorry. You should really study what those top corps do. For one , they are taking only the top couple of percent of the best HS programs. It’s like suggesting that a good HS football team could compete with a top 10 college team. NFW.
I agree sousas are harder to incorporate into the field, but I feel like switching to contras to prioritize the visual performance is a sacrifice for the overall music performance. Trombones and baritone saxes are also challenging to incorporate into drill and visuals, but I feel like the color and volume these three instruments add to the sound make them irreplaceable to a band that wants to sound distinct from a drum corps.
@brycehall8605 oh, as a contra player, you can get VOLUME out of one. It's more in embochure than air and you just need a larger section who can play like this. Sadly usually I carry my 9 person Contra section 💀
Congrats, Hebron. You had a very good year, including a well-deserved 3rd place finish at UIL for consistency. It would have been great to have had a couple of Leander ISD bands at Grand Nats. Perhaps that would have given TX an even better chance at dislodging the eagle from those IN schools. Better yet, wouldn’t it be great to alternate Grand Nats locations? Indy one year and AT&T Stadium or Alamodome the alternating year? Until something like that happens, seems like San Antonio Super Regional will cast a bit of a shadow on Grand Nats given the top-to-bottom strength in its list of TX finalists.
@@humptydumpty109 no one makes you read this, so buzz off. Nothing in my post was TX elitist at all, just because you took it that way. Avon and Carmel in particular are great programs, but there is a reason it is called home field advantage.
@@thereallore1268 Lol, nice try. The BOA judges at say SA Super Regional are in many times the same judges that cover Grand Nats or Regionals in other states. They come from a common pool. It's kinda funny to read their comments of denial and rationalization. Instead, maybe they could just be gracious and congratulate Avon and Carmel who finished above them and deserved it. I'm hoping that its not their current band members who post this crap as any band member should appreciate the hard work and sacrifice put in. Texas as a whole will usually never be as clean visually at the Midwest due to Texas restrictions but they can do what no one in the Midwest can do! Performs music (brass demand and valve movements) like no other in the country! If Texas has 5 extra weeks on visual then it would not be fair. Look at most of the Texas elites music books and power and valve prowess this last decade. No way Avon or Carmel could perform the brass book from Hebron 2019, 2021, 2022 or 2023! And I’m only taking about Hebron these past 5 years. Nats is fun to watch while the true overall talent only rotates every few years (ie TS, BA and the Texas Elites).
Let’s not get it twisted

We weren’t visually clean🙃😁
@jamescardona233 honestly good thing y'all usually aren't. It leaves room for competition. We saw during penstriped what happens when hebron is visually clean ☠️
Dude, 8:47 - 8:55!!! The reactions say it all!🔥
I’m from Indiana, and this was my first time ever attending Grand Nats, just so I could watch these amazing Texas Bands.
I remember my very first BOA show in 2015, we were slotted right before a AAA Class school, and how intimidating they were in size and sound. I felt that as an audience member when Hebron took the field.
Amazing performance, amazing show!
Also, Hebron students or parents that see this, what is the story/tradition behind your on field warmup song? I’ve never seen anything like it?
They play their almermata song before every performance.
they play their schools alma mater, its more used to be warmed up a bit more before the show (at least thats why we play castaway at wando)
Texas Alma Maters are standard warm ups. lol
Hebron and Tarpon Springs had easily my favorite shows of 2023
This is my alma mater! So cool to see.
Texas is still the best state for marching band. I will always stand by that!!! I love Hebron❤
@@thereallore1268what happened last time one of them traveled to Texas? Wasn’t it their only non top 3 finish of the last decade? 🤔
@@thereallore1268 Indiana Bands travel 30 mins to go to BOA GN; Texas bands travel for 13+ hours and still DOMINATE at finals in your state😂😂
@@Monke2120I can tell you exactly what happened.

So glad they at least got High Music. I thought this was a better show in visuals than Avon but the GE for their show though is their weak spot. Would've had them ahead of Carmel though at the least. Avon was by far the best visually and best Drumline but I agree this should’ve beaten Carmel
I’ve never really understood what GE even is

what songs do they use in the show?? I only recognize the last one “Go the distance”…

"Enter the Galaxies" - Paul Lovatt-Cooper
"Millennium Celebration" - Gavin Greenaway
"Holding Out for a Hero" - Bonnie Tyler (Jim Steinman/Dean Pitchford)

glad to see I'm not the only one that's baffled on how Hebron is not the Champion.
@@iainoam2565that’s almost perfectly summed up
@@thereallore1268 Well, due to cost, you don't get all of TX top bands every year to make it a true head-to-head competition of best on best.
Yes chamber music is another skill set but in Texas arraignments are scored by difficulty in terms on mature playing.
Marching a variation on Doxology 100 yer over year while Gaines writes a wonder visual package might keep you top three at BOA but usually doesn’t make you the best overall program in the country.

A standing ovation at grand nats is crazy. But hey that's our hebron and team texas for you. I'm already thinking about their next appearance. Why can't they go every year 😒
It’s only a matter of time that these high schools will legit give top drum corps a run for their money.
lol. No way. Sorry. You should really study what those top corps do. For one , they are taking only the top couple of percent of the best HS programs. It’s like suggesting that a good HS football team could compete with a top 10 college team. NFW.
I'm honestly wondering why more schools don't march Contra, it's so much harder to make a Sousa section look uniform
Yeah hebron might actually have a chance at high visual if they got contras
I’m sorry but the entitled Texas elitism is just annoying. I’m from Texas too but I hate it and it should stop. It’s just making us look bad.
texas scores are most inflated scores in country
@@humptydumpty109 Brass talent from Texas is unmatched.
@@humptydumpty109 no one makes you read this, so buzz off. Nothing in my post was TX elitist at all, just because you took it that way. But, if we were all being honest, we would at least acknowledge that having Grand Nats in Indy every year is obviously an advantage for schools within an hour of Indy. Avon and Carmel in particular are great programs, but there is a reason it is called home field advantage.
@@thereallore1268 Lol, nice try. The BOA judges at say SA Super Regional are in many times the same judges that cover Grand Nats or Regionals in other states. They come from a common pool. If you bothered to look at the judging sheets, you would confirm this. So, if those judges have a tendency to inflate in TX, then they have an equal tendency to inflate at Grand Nats or in other Regionals across the country. So your statement is not logical, or factual and therefore flawed.
Hebron should have won the national contest. I'm not surprised that 1st and 2nd place went to Indiana bands. As a musician, I am amazed at the level of music In Hebron's performance. Hold up.....5 out of the past 10 Grand Nats champions went to bands outside of Indiana. IN fact, two were from TX.
@@jennifergrief8742 Yeah, but not one of those two from TX was named Hebron. So naturally the sore losers in the Hebron fan base are going to dump on anyone else that wins over them...which, this year, were quite a few...including Marcus from their own back yard (at UIL state). It's kinda funny to read their comments of denial and rationalization. Instead, maybe they could just be gracious and congratulate Avon and Carmel who finished above them and deserved it. I'm hoping that its not their current band members who post this crap as any band member should appreciate the hard work and sacrifice put in.
