One Maurer Spinning coaster I have been and that greaty recommend is Winjas Fear and Force at Phantasialand. Technically these are 2 separate dueling coasters with a similar layout and some differences. They have unique layouts with great theming and even surprise elements not found in other coasters. I don't recommend looking at a complete POV, it's better to experience them.
For when I rode it in August 2007 (I had no idea that was the ride's inaugural year of operation until I just saw this video), I gave it an 8. It was my second ever spinning coaster, the first being Exterminator at Kennywood in 2001. Now I've ridden plenty of them but for someone who had never ridden this layout or model before, the way it all came together was fun, zippy and disorienting. I guess the company I was with helped too, as was a great friend who was laughing the whole way. I do remember the wait being bad and we wanted to ride together so I don't think we even looked to see if there was a single rider queue back then. Anyway, fun coaster.
Story time: the one time I went to DLP, wich was when I was like 8 and ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIED of coasters, I went in line for Crush with my mom and made her wait over an hour just to chicken out WHEN WE GOT ON. She was pissed, and I definitely regret because I ain’t coming back there anytime soon since I’m not a millionaire 🤣
Actually, that first straight away contains Safety Brake 1 (B01). Trim Brakes are located only in Brake 3 and Brake 4. Spider is the only Maurer SC-2000 with a Trim Brake in Brake 5. The “horseshoe” turn as you call it is known as an Immelmann Turn, after the Aerobatic Maneuver.
Perhaps they should have modified it to run tandem like the Matterhorn Bobsleds that went from one to two cars. But they should probably also have two tracks as well. Then capacity would be decent.
@@CanobieCoaster Me either. I meant modified in the design phase. After the fact would probably be a no-go. But Disney should have foreseen the capacity problem and taken action.
This thing could have actually made the EAC current screens like you had mentioned. In the video you mentioned the visuals wouldn’t be good but if the cars spawn like Guardians of the Galaxy cosmic rewind then it could happen.
It is due to the use of Wheel Housings which only utilize cams, the spindles, axles, etc. If the trains utilized independent wheel bogies, it would track differently. Lagoon redesigned with the cooperation of ART Engineering, and approval of Maurer, put newly engineered ART Product Wheel Housings on Spider in 2016 that are a vast improvement over the Maurer Wheel Housings.
When I visited we paid for premier access for this ride cuz it was a 2 hour wait, and mind you. The day we went was not packed at all, and the ride still took us 30 minutes to ride with premier access.
Fair review! I genuinely like this ride, it's a fun (but inferior) alternative to the other indoor family coasters found in American Disney parks. The poor man's Space Mountain.
Canobie Coaster would say: You then have one last banked drop and hop into the final brakes. These Maurer spinners are notorious for violently slamming the car back into place on the final brake run. It's a moment I always dread on these coasters. Fortunately, this has been toned down a bit on Crush's Coaster. It's still jolty don't get me wrong, but...
Good coaster but very poor capacity. Unfortunately, I'm seeing this trend more and more often, especially in parks with Fastpasses. Examples of this include the Raptors and 4D Free Spins at Six Flags, the Zamperla Spinning Mouse at Cedar Point or Crush, Slinky and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Disney. All of these coasters are good and therefore attract a lot of people, but they have far too little capacity for the parks in which they are located. To me this looks like an intentional move to sell more Fastpasses.
I had 4 days at the resort this summer, this is the only sizable ride I skipped because I couldn’t be bothered with a 70 minute wait for a basic indoor maurer spinner when flight force had a 10 minute wait all day long.
I agree that a maurer spinner has to low capacity for the most visited park in europe (if you count the 2 parks in one), but it' sooo fun, and I love the theming and darkrides scenes, I think the dark aspect add a lot to the experience. I even think I prefer that to Winja's, yes, fight me
Can't believe they went for something this low capacity. But I'd like to see more simple rides but heavily themed at Disney parks. They would reduce wait times and give some cool experiences. Imagine a Disney-themed Gravity Group family woodie, or an Intamin hot racer
Wasn't this original designed as a treveling coaster layout? I might be wrong. But im sure, i rode this on a fairground. Cologne or Düsseldorf. not sure. Im very sure, i have seen it on a fairground.
The Maurer Xtended SC-2000 was offered in 3 types, Transportable, Base Frame Foundation (Park Model), and Permanent Mount. Lagoon had the first Park Model in 2003 and Adventureland the first Permanent Mount in 2019.
A spinning coaster as a Pixar dark ride ... Looks interesting but a second dual coaster could add the depth of interest and the reduction of the lines ... similar to the Matterhorn or Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom Looks more entertaining than the Nemo Submarine Retheme at Disneyland good video
Surprised this got a 7/10. Imo the experience just stops after the lifthill. What's the point of building up the experience through a themed IP dark ride section if you're then going to plunge your guests into... an empty warehouse? It just does not feel like a ride made with Disney's skill or care. I'm honestly surprised they didn't just remove this yet. I feel like most guests would much prefer the (much more capacious) SeaRider from DisneySea.
Canobie Coaster would say: Then this ride is fairly smooth. Some of the transitions are a little jumpy, but it is perfectly tolerable for me. If I ask you what does that mean, jumpy?

Thank you very much!

I love the tricks on those rides.
Great job, a really good video on the topic. So weird to know THIS is the ride with the long lines.
Low capacity is a big reason why.
For when I rode it in August 2007 (I had no idea that was the ride's inaugural year of operation until I just saw this video), I gave it an 8. It was my second ever spinning coaster, the first being Exterminator at Kennywood in 2001.

I think the single rider line was added after it opened.
I rode Steel Dragon once a while back. I did not get much spinning.
Dang!

Thanks for clarifying about the brakes!

I'm not sure if the structure could handle the weight of 2 trains linked.

On Cosmic Rewind, the spin is controlled so they can strategically position you. This one is random and free.
When you said:
Some of the transitions are a little jumpy.
Jumpy, what does that mean? What do you think, Canobie Coaster?
Abrupt and a bit jerky.

Imagine if a Disney theme park had a Finding Nemo roller coaster themed to the Sydney Harbor seagull chase scene.
That would be interesting.
They should have built 2 of them like space mountain to get the capacity.
That definitely would have helped.
When I visited we paid for premier access for this ride cuz it was a 2 hour wait, and mind you. The day we went was not packed at all, and the ride still took us 30 minutes to ride with premier access.
Disney really should not have built a ride with this low capacity.
Fair review! I genuinely like this ride, it's a fun (but inferior) alternative to the other indoor family coasters found in American Disney parks. The poor man's Space Mountain.
I prefer it to Shredder too.
I got dizzy just watching this LOL! Should I do it?! Or would I hate it? I usually only get dizzy from those 3D glasses rides.
It definitely can spin a lot.

This is an even more extreme example of a low capacity ride. This was also a budget move.

The lines for this are awful.

I much prefer Winjas myself.
You are a criminal
yep, a lot of people do

That works unless the ride gets too popular for its own good.

Yes, the SC2000 layout is commonly found at fairs and small parks.
The Maurer Xtended SC-2000 was offered in 3 types, Transportable, Base Frame Foundation (Park Model), and Permanent Mount. Lagoon had the first Park Model in 2003 and Adventureland the first Permanent Mount in 2019.
I also want to see reviews about your thoughts about rides like Indiana Jones
I'll have one later this week.

good video
I agree a second track would have helped.
damn I love laff track but it is true long line that you can't skip
Lines are brutal for that one most days.

The base layout is a 5 or 6 for me at other parks, so when you add the dark ride bit at the start plus good spinning, it only improves.
This ride deserves to save Walt Disney Studios Park from going under.
It's a solid ride. Tower of Terror is the star for me there.

They don't track perfectly.
@@CanobieCoaster Due to the use of Wheel Housings, Spindles, and the Axels. It’s unfortunate.
This is why all Disney coasters should have two tracks
This one would have benefited mightily from it.
LIKE SPIDER AT Lagoon
Very similar, just indoors.
it Pefect For Clone At Disney & Disney Calafornia Adventure Get Replaced by Goofy's Sky School
The capacity is so low that I wouldn't want it cloned exactly.
Only attraction I bought a fast pass for as the wait times are a joke for this ride no matter what, I found.
Only way to avoid a long wait is to get extremely lucky with single rider or be at the front of the early entry crowd
Looks like a capacity nightmare. Another underwhelming Disney family coaster along with Slinky and Seven Dwarfs. Neither are worth the two hour waits.
It's a fun ride, but not worth the usual wait.
I paid to skip this line and I hated myself for it but I didnt regret it
It saves a lot of time.
