Like any other muscle, your abs need to shorten and lengthen in order to work. In this case, the function they perform is trunk flexion, or the rounding of your lumbar spine. So, for them to work, you need to flex your spine (round your back) to shorten the muscle, and extend your spine (straighten your back) to lengthen it. Yeah its not required. Unless your training for advanced calisthenics movements like the Planche or Front Lever, then you don't have to train abs. Just stay in a caloric deficit and be patient, but I'm sure you already knew that 😅.
@@terryabracey237 You are well uneducated but i´ll educate you for free. No adult trains abs(core) to get shredded and or 6-pack. Because...Well...Who the fuck cares. The reason of training core, the vital reason is to strengthen RA & TVA muscle. RA is what´s known as the outer-layer abs muscle (visible abs muscle), but a strong RA muscle will prevent lower back pain, create more rigid and strong core to prevent simply put...you hurting yourself. TVA is the deepest core muscle and is vital in for an example tilting your hips and keeping them in neutral so you don´t overextend nor round your lower back, TVA is also responsible for creating a "corset around your mid section", so it´s the natural liftingbelt of the body, hence why people with strong TVA can deadlift REALLY HEAVY without needing a belt for extra support since they´re core is already extremely strong.

Personally I think your abs are limited by how strong your hip flexors are to some extent, it's like an unbroken chain of muscles, isolating one part of the chain is not ideal to overall hypertrophy
You are just doing it wrong. Plant your hips and legs then just think of "touch your head to your crotch", you won´t move your lower body thinking that. By moving your lower body you are creating spine problems as you place unwanted pressure along your entire spine when it´s just supposted to your spine from mid to upper to flex (round) not your lower part.
I love how you actually go into the science of how everything works.. that’s why you’ve become my primary source for workouts. Thanks and keep it up bro 💪🏽🙏🏽💪🏽
Hey Max Love The Videos! You’ve inspired me to workout and I just hit 85 pounds on bench. It may not be much but I’m grateful for it. I’m thinking of buying the dip bar that u mentioned in ur home gym vid. How has it held up? Thanks bro
He is absolutely right. You don't want to drop your hips back. Your hips should be in a fixed position. I prefer a 45° leg position to my hips or my hips slightly behind my knees.
If people are ignoring their abs during ab exercises they need to reconsider how they train bc they most likely do that with other body parts too. Hitting abs is such a blatant contraction/mind connection there is absolutely no missing it unless you aren’t even paying attention and just going through the motions
Tried these and hated them. I felt awkward doing them. Now I just stick to my compound lifts, keeping my core engage throughout my workouts. Using the captain chair and this new machine in my gym the engages the whole core.
I wouldn't say the word WRONG when talking about the variations of this ab workout. depending on what you are looking to achieve then you might need to make adjustments. but nothing in this video was flat out wrong.
Yeah, just like in weight liftings you core is used in pretty much any movement and of course there is a good amount of calisthenics abs exercises but remember that to have visible abs you need to be at a low enough bf%
Short story , i did this exercise and the cable didn't go in properly and when i pulled it down the cable fell on my head and my head bled and dripped onto the gym floor
leg raises mostly work your lower abs and inner thigs also help with hip strength and flexibility due to the motion of your legs and hips during the move. Plus, the move gets your low back involved. your lower back still (and should) round a bit with leg raises

I sit back into my feet, thumbs up and use them as guides to the side of my head. Negates you being able to use your hips and all damps the abs

My upper back doesn't round as much as yours, so my entire back has to move more to compensate. Is this a problem?

is there an effective way to do this exercise standing instead of kneeling?
Welp. I’ve been doing them wrong. No wonder my lower back/hips always hurt

Hey Max, does this training affect waist size in any form whatsoever?
This will still work the abs. Similar to lowerback in deadlift
do u recommend the standing version of this exercise? thanks
I think that the videos will be better without music
I would say the primary function of the abs is to bring the hips out of line (and subsequently up towards) the ribs
So for hanging leg raises should I bring it ALL the way up or straight
what is this workout called ?
It herts my elbow while i'm doing it. What should I do

Could working your abs help with weight loss?
So is he saying things like leg raises or hanging leg raises not work? Since you're not necessarily curving your back?
Is it ok if i start with my butt on my heels so I can’t use my hip flexors at all or should I keep them at a 90 degree angle?
I gave up on this exercise. I just use the ab machine at my gym now lol
There was a guy who always asked for a flute spread. Did euceda deliver?

What do you do for lower ab development? Also, brilliant content !
Hanging Leg Raises or Hanging Knee Raises
I got lucky with fat placement, and my fat is in my legs and near my hips, so I can walk around 20% fat with visible abs and obliques

What’s the difference of working abs and working out your core ?
Abs is 1 muscle, core consists of abs, obliques, lower back and small stabilizer muscles across your spine
