I’ve been trying to get away from leave-ins that seem heavy/thick but I also want the moisture aspect of a leave in. I’ve been using the Shea moisture hydrating manuka honey masque I have low porosity hair and I use it with a steam cap it makes my hair feel so soft and hydrated afterwards.

I went back to this because it always made my hair feel great and moisturized when I had relaxed hair. The same with the kera Kare brand their humectant shampoo and conditioner? My hair LOVES IT! So I’m watching different videos to see which natural hair care companies provide the same effects & also to learn more about the use of protein etc for low porosity hair. Thank you so much! 💛

Alikay Naturals sage conditioner. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 My extremely low porosity hair has NEVER liked deep conditioners, because they’re just so heavy, and always leave a little residue no matter how many times I rinse it out. And regular conditioners are even worse APART from Innersense pure harmony conditioner which rinses out beautifully and is residue free. So why does the Alikay work I wondered?Well it doesn’t contain any butters. 🤗 it’s very watery and just sinks into my hair. Only downside as with most things natural hair related, they’re not cheap. 😩
I swear by TGIN- but want to try the Soultonics conditioner. Sounds so healthy with all the ingredients. I have very low porosity hair. How often should I use the low weight protein conditioners?
Hi, I recently went to a salon to get a trim, and while I was there, she told me that I had high porosity hair. I always thought that I had low porosity hair because when I do the hair strand test in a glass of water, my hair strands float and never sink. However, I did another test where I wet my hair and my body to see which one drys first, and my hair dried first, meaning it could be high porosity. I also ran my fingers on some strand and I felt no bumps meaning that it could be low porosity. Lastly, I believe my hair does not like proteins or coconut oil. Should I consider my hair high or low porosity? I came upon you video for your wash day for high porosity, and now I'm here for low porosity.
The best way to test for porosity is to spray your hair with water. If you see a bunch of water droplets, then you have low porosity. If you see some water droplets then its normal porosity. If there are no droplets and your hair is soaked from the spray then you have high porosity. Also, low porosity hair dries faster because it has a harder time absorbing water. Meanwhile, high porosity takes forever to dry because it absorbs moisture from everywhere since the cuticles are normally open/ raised. Hair almost always floats at the top when placed on a water surface. You also have to factor in whether you have fine, medium, or thick hair strands and whether your hair is dry, oily, damaged, or just has a lot of product buildup. And different parts of your hair can have different porosity too. Hope this helps. 😊
@@BubblyRosé2468 Actually, I believe it's the other way around. Once water enters low porosity hair, it takes so much time to dry. As for high porosity hair, water easily evaporates through the raised cuticle..there is nothing holding it back! LP hair drying quickly means it did not receive water to begin with
How often should you deep condition vs use a "regular" conditioner? Do you deep condition every wash day or only after clarifying? Also, if you do recommend occasionally use a regular conditioner, what ingredients should we look for? Love these recs btw. I'll definitely keep an eye out.
use a regular conditioner after every shampoo is recommended. and you need to figure out yourself when to deep condition, if you notice your hair needs extra moisture or is dry, you should deep condition. then you know how often
Hi sis, Where have I been, yesterday was the first time I watched your video. Couldn't stop listening to you, so please I click your video. Having problems with iron deficiency/low porosity hair for years. You are a star sis thanks. Very informative video.🥰😍
I use dr. Bronner's Castile soap, black soap (brown in color), will try naptural85's soap (in the future), pretty much any soap that is organic as possible. I put conditioner (my light penetrating oil of choice), and let that sit under a shower cap and heat, then add a styler (butter or heavy oil of my choice), then style as usual, I'm definitely not a product junkie lol. Let me know how it works out for you!
I second this Yimika. If you have medium porosity, you can benefit from the information on both the high porosity and low porosity videos. Porosity isn’t about strict categories, it’s more of a sliding scale so you may find that your either slightly more low porosity or slightly closer to high porosity. Try the tips from both and see which side your hair responds to better. But largely - you’ve got it good because you should be able to work with either side successfully
Camille Rose Algae Renew conditioning mask for my low porosity, protein sensitive hair. No protein in this. I've also used the low protein conditioners mentioned, but will always follow that with a nice mix of light hot oils. I follow with knot today leave in. I haven't tried any film forming humectants but plan to try sealing with curly custard as I still battle dryness and wiry feeling hair.
Noted. Noted. NOTED and thank you very much. This was helpful. I definitely have to be more mindful of tracking my hair progress and ingredients my hair likes...
Thank you SO MUCH for these videos about deep conditioners for low porosity and high porosity hair. I have low posority hair and my son has high porosity hair and it's hard to find quality products for each of our hair needs. I just recently found your channel and immediately subscribed~ your videos are amazing 👏 ❤
Forget your extensive knowledge. The way my eyes are still stuttering over 'bec-' and you've already moved onto the next complicated ingredient! So impressive!
I am quite low on the LP scale plus I have wiry hair which sucks ngl lol. The miche indulge DP does wonders for my hair, it has such nice slip too and easily penetrates my strands. My fav strengthening DP is the soultanicals hibiscus hair healer as it has great slip, is lightweight, helps with my sensitive scalp as well has having a great balance of moisture and amino acids. Plus it smells amazing! Other honorable mentions ORS replenishing conditioner (this is a protein DC, also do not get the new one with sweet orange one, the original) TGIN honey miracle mask (this has silicone in it)
I’m surprised to see so many products with polyquaterniums being suggested. That’s a no for my low porosity hair. I steer clear of any polymers. I don’t need any coatings whatsoever on my hair, especially not synthetic ones like that. 👀
My absolute favorite deep conditioners are eden body works jojoba conditioner, kinky tresses, curls dynasty, the adowa beauty deep conditioner, the alpha deep conditioner from TMC
Wait, I heard that coconut oil is not good for low porosity hair? I actually noticed that too once I stopped using it. But when I see coconut ingredients in products I’m not sure if I should get them.. And how many times should I use a protein treatment? Once a month or once a week?
thank you soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much for this video i was searching but couldn't find any article on google good thing ur channel talks on this stuff also what about low porosity and oily scalp

Wow My friend sent me your video and I am glad she did. Cause woooow just wooow the details on your videos and the knowledge you have wow so for that beyond thank you 😊
This is amazing information. I saw coco betaine as a surfactant in the Camille Rose Ginger Cleansing Rinse and now betaine listed in the As I Am Hydration Elation. Would the Cleansing Rinse still count as a protein-free shampoo or would this be considered a product to introduce after a while with a protein-free regimen? Thank you for being such a great resource for healthy hair!
LOVE your videos but I don't have access to any of these brands 😢 any way you could recommend internationally available brands like shea moisture, the body shop, garnier, dove etc
Wonderful video ❤️❤️ It would be amazing to see your perspective on natural homemade products, and common mistakes and or tips for those of us inclined to experiment with homemade natural DIY treamentst. For example, I'm very worried about weather or not certain homemade concoctions can actually last and keep well (Safely) in the fridge/outside the fridge without spoiling, and any other recommendations you can think of for those of us with an inner chemist wanting to make things that cater to our hair in particular.
Thank you! I feel you girl, I love a good diy product. A good rule of thumb I like to use is 2 years for oily (water free concoctions) and 2 weeks for ones that have water in them (in the fridge). Have you tried natural preservatives?
I know you mentioned using protein based products only in deep conditioner format what is your thoughts on curlsmith multi-tasking conditioner 3 in 1 leave in, rinse out or/and deep conditioner for low porosity hair?
Okay unfortunately my hair is a little... Frustrating. Think I half low perosity on the top of my hair and sides and mes to high in the back. Today I tried the Shea Moisture Manuka Honey and Yogurt Hydrate Plus Repair Protein and it gave me lifeee though. Fully recommend, both types of my hair loved it. Though not still overall just something I would do once a month at most.

Hahahaha, Thank you so much girl!!💛🙏
How often should you deep condition vs use a "regular" conditioner? Do you deep condition every wash day or only after clarifying? Also, if you do recommend occasionally use a regular conditioner, what ingredients should we look for? Love these recs btw. I'll definitely keep an eye out.
use a regular conditioner after every shampoo is recommended. and you need to figure out yourself when to deep condition, if you notice your hair needs extra moisture or is dry, you should deep condition. then you know how often
Natural Rizado brand is a brand that makes products for low porosity exclusively. I love their products especially the deep conditioner and leave in
Thanks for introducing me to a new deep conditioner with ingredients i was searching for in a deep conditioning product. Great video!
Hi sis,
Where have I been, yesterday was the first time I watched your video. Couldn't stop listening to you, so please I click your video. Having problems with iron deficiency/low porosity hair for years. You are a star sis thanks. Very informative video.🥰😍
Ahhhh Thank youuu! This comment made me smile! So glad you’re finding these videos helpful 🥰🙏🏽
Can you please recommend a Shampoo for low porosity hair. Pretty please!🙏🏽
Try the Not your mother’s curl talk shampoo. It’s great! Sulfate free. Also Shea moisture shampoos are great.
Please please do medium porosity next 🥺 I've been natural all my life but I'm just now learning how to take care of my hair
Medium Porosity is the same as Normal porosity, so if you have that porosity you can use whatever deep conditioner you want.
Tgin honey miracle DC, Camille rose algae DC, Mielle peppermint DC
Mielle Organics Babassu Oil and Mint Deep Conditioner is my favorite!
Hi, how can I incorporate aloe Vera juice in my regimen? I have fine and low porosity hair.
Could make it brittle
What about miss Jackie’s flaxseed elongating gel? 👀
minute 4:20 "Behind Romania meets a sulfate" - cheers from a romanian :D. great video! thank you for all the valuavle infos!
Absolutely awesome !! We need shampoos too .
I have found the Shea moisture manuka honey mask amazing
It's an amazing mask I love it so much that I find excuse to wash my hair every week!
Noted. Noted. NOTED and thank you very much. This was helpful. I definitely have to be more mindful of tracking my hair progress and ingredients my hair likes...
💓💓
You are my new new favorite❣ I'm low porosity, but subbie🥰 Because hiney you have knowledge in every video I have watched. Thank You!!💯💯💯💯💯💯
Thank you SO MUCH for these videos about deep conditioners for low porosity and high porosity hair. I have low posority hair and my son has high porosity hair and it's hard to find quality products for each of our hair needs. I just recently found your channel and immediately subscribed~ your videos are amazing 👏 ❤
When I saw the thumbnail I thought you were Serena Williams
Screaminggg! Howww?! 😂😂
@@AfopeAtoyebi Its the face..lol
Protein free DCs - Eden body works Natural deep Conditioner and Camille Rose Coconut water penetrating hair treatment! Great video
I think the coconut water one contains amino acids (if I'm not mistaken) - what are the ingredients?
The quickness with which I clicked this notification! Notepad at the ready!
Hahahaha so on it! Love it 👏🏾😂
Forget your extensive knowledge. The way my eyes are still stuttering over 'bec-' and you've already moved onto the next complicated ingredient! So impressive!
😆😆😂😂 This was indeed educational!!
Other honorable mentions
ORS replenishing conditioner (this is a protein DC, also do not get the new one with sweet orange one, the original)
TGIN honey miracle mask (this has silicone in it)
I’m surprised to see so many products with polyquaterniums being suggested.
What a great, very informative, super creative content. 👏🏽
The universe is playing with me!! Why did I not find you and this video 2 days ago, when I made my first hair products order on Amazon?? TBH lockdown has me finally deciding to get to know my TWA 4c low porosity hair needs and even try to grow it out. Definitely a new sub & now going to watch other videos to further my education 🙌🏿💯😊.
😫 I JUST DID THE SAME THING. NOW I DON'T WANNA USE WHAT I ORDERED LOL
Wow My friend sent me your video and I am glad she did. Cause woooow just wooow the details on your videos and the knowledge you have wow so for that beyond thank you 😊
what about humidity and dew point?
Yes, this is where I get confused on how to tell my moisture levels. Texas is humid and has high dew points as well.
Excellent delivery
I love your channel, I like your interest in presenting the information and how you edit the video. Thank you!
all love for you
Garnier Amla and coconut oil mask is nice. I am trying the Aloe vera one atm
Thanks for the suggestion!
I have low porosity hair and the Silicon Mix conditioner is one of the only conditioners that work on my hair, i wonder why?
Very helpful so very detailed and informative!💚
Thanks, bro! 🙏🏽
I’m going to try some of these products. Thank you!
It’s the accent for me 🥰
Great video, thank you 💜 my fave deep conditioner is mielle babassu n mint and I’m low porosity
I've heard great things about this but never tried it before. What are the ingredients?
Afope Atoyebi it’s amazing you have to try it! It’s says it’s moisture/protein balanced so I was super wary because usually my hair hates any type of protein, but it’s become my favourite. Listed ingredients below what do you think of it? xx
Water/aqua/eau, behentrimonium methosulfate, cetearyl alcohol, cetylesters, *Orbignya oleifera (babassu) seed oil, Pyrus malus (apple) fruit extract, glycerin, sodium PCA, sodium lactate, arginine, aspartic acid, PCA, glycine, alanine, serine, valine, proline, threonine, isoleucine, histidine, phenylalanine, *Euterpe oleracea (acai) pulp oil, Pentaclethra macroloba (pracaxi) seed oil, *Rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract, *Helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, *Lavandula angustifolia (Lavender) oil, *Pelargonium graveolens (Geranium) flower oil, Salvia officinalis (Sage) oil, Mentha piperita (peppermint) oil, Citrus paradise (Grapefruit) peel oil, Litsea cubeba fruit oil, Mentha Viridis (spearmint) leaf oil, isoamyl laurate, dehydroacetic acid, benzyl alcohol
Allthatgliters020 yessssss that dc is so bomb!!!
sadly this deep conditioner gave me protein overload. 😣
I've been looking at your videos most of last weekend. It has been a pleasure!
Are these products good for men to use also?
Obia Naturals Babassu Deep Conditioner, also has amazing slip
I know you mentioned using protein based products only in deep conditioner format what is your thoughts on curlsmith multi-tasking conditioner 3 in 1 leave in, rinse out or/and deep conditioner for low porosity hair?
Hi Afope, so do we not use regular conditioners, only deep conditioners?
Loveeee your videos really helpful. Do you think using a protein treatment/mask as a prepoo can be effective?
Of course! It may not adhere as much though if you have a lot of buildup on your hair. This is why I prefer to wash first
Okay unfortunately my hair is a little...
I love you and love your Channel. Please more video on low porosity ❤️
Definitely found your video helpful! Thank gurl-friend!
Hi my sister, is that possible to get a book?
Alikay naturals honey and sage deep conditioner is very good. I’m just hating the price! That 8 oz does not last long.
Thanks Afope, I’ve been waiting for this video. Do you have one for moisturisers for low porosity hair as well?
I have a video on how to keep natural hair moisturised but I could definitely do one for low porosity hair exclusively. would that be helpful?
@@AfopeAtoyebi that would be very helpful
Afope Atoyebi yes yes please, that would be appreciated.
