    This is amazing. My mind is blown. I have literally been doing everything wrong with my hair... Before, my hair was dry and frizzy, so I went overboard with sulfate-free, curly girl-this, coconut oil-that, and now my hair is dry, frizzy, AND damaged and brittle. I'm going to have to change things up.

    This actually works. My hair has been so brittle and extra tangly. After looking at my products…I realized they all contain some type of protein; even the leave in😭. My hair has been breaking so much but I tried this with the garnier whole blends honey shampoo listed in the description and I got barely any breakage. Thanks for this info because I was getting frustrated with my hair

So, I am discovering my hair and yesterday I did a protein overload!!!!!!! I shampooed, did a mask, conditioner and leave in with protein products! I just didn't know! And now, my hair is crunchy!!!! And on top of that, I though aloe was protein free so I drenched my hair with aloe thinking it will increase moisture!!!! SMH at myself! Thank you so very much!!!!! Afope! Girl! This video solved a problem I was having for YEARS and it wasn't even the protein problem.
    I went natural in 2008 and quickly did away with the harsh sulfates (lauryls) and then eventually away with them all. Little did I know that was the start of my scalp/hair problems. It is not a good thing to be a product junkie and not use sulfates. I just could never get my scalp and roots clean even using sulfate free clarifying shampoos, lathering twice, letting it sit for minutes. I produce a lot of heavy waxy sebum so my roots were always sticky.
    Anyway, I recently decided I was returning to sulfates (I use heavy silicones) but even the sulfate shampoos didn't seem to clean my hair like they used to back in the day. I saw this video and it made me realize the sulfate shampoos I was using were sodium LAURETH. I used to use Pantene Relaxed and Natural exclusively back in the day and I think that even had ammonium lauryl sulfate and I never had any issues with it. I went out and bought a bottle of Pantene Truly Natural (they no longer make the Relaxed and Natural in one bottle) with sodium lauryl and let me tell you! My hair hasn't felt this clean in years! I only needed one lather to achieve this. My scalp and roots aren't gunky and my hair is soft. I can't stop touching it. Also, I used a leave in that I previously thought was just ok and it worked even better. I'm still in shock. I feel like I can finally stop fearing buildup of any kind now. I was buying all kinds of expensive scalp treatments, shampoos, herbs, etc. and all they did was dry my hair out and still leave my hair unclean. All I needed was a cheap $5 bottle of sodium LAURYL. 😆 Thanks girl!

I’m dont mind cutting, it but I feel like its so dry and tangly and doesn’t feel smooth. I think all of my products have “hidden” proteins so I need to throw them out and start over with protein free products.

      Also, make sure you are using a conditioner that is oil free. I found the deep conditioners That were protein free but full of oils made things worse. Oil seals the protein in. I’m just washing once a week and letting water be my moisturizer every night in the shower. It’s the only thing that is helping my hair heal.

    Second time watching this video because I got protein overload again 😭 I used s leave in+curling cream with lots of protein, then my hair was hard to touch so I decided to wash it again with a clarified full of protein shampoo (another mistake), then I was not happy enough with my mistakes to I decided to use a protein deep conditioner with heat and leave it for more then the right time. After all of that my hair was so hard, I couldn’t even brush it. I already wash it all with sulfate shampoo but will need some time now. But this time I am sure I learned my lesson! Thanks for this video! ❤️

    After 7 years, I’m starting to understand I may have protein over load high porosity hair. The damage is significant. Can you elaborate on a hair routine? i.e how long do I go protein free? How do I know when my hair is balanced? How often should I be clarifying? Should I never use sulfates? When my hair is balanced which products are the happy medium balance keepers lol ? Should I be doing protein mask/treatment while I’m trying to remove the proteins? Is all the protein removed after one wash or weeks/months of washing? Is it’s a 10 good for protein over load hair? What is your opinion on the product? Can recommend more products. I love your channel so far btw. Your the first person to recommend products which is the game changer for me. you explain so simply which is what I need since I don’t understand “hair science “ I’m definitely going to subscribe 👌

      Honestly if you incorporate a sulfate shampoo in your regimen at least 1-2 times a month you should be good. We shouldn't need to be bouncing back and forward. Shouldn't be this complicated. I actually went back to sulfate shampoo exclusively so I can use whatever products I want and not have to worry about all that build up and balancing mess.

    Freakin awesome video! Where were when I searched 👀 for this 3 months ago!!! 😫 I had never put any chemicals in my hair nor any protein purposely in my hair besides like eco styler or something. I’m a couponer so I have random products that I give away. Well I ran out of shampoo and used one of those products and my hair immediately felt like Velcro! I didn’t realize what happened so I did it AGAIN immediately after to see if it would change LOL 🤦🏽‍♀️ and of course it got worse, only to find when I CAREFULLY read the TITLE on the BOTTLE! ...that it was CONCENTRATED PROTEIN! 😬 My Lord. I have wanted to cut my hair (which is at its longest) ever since. So THANK YOU!!! 😭 It’s been hard!
    Question: do you think I should let the sulfates sit a little longer given my situation? Or just try the 3 min and seer what happens?

    Hello. Sone years ago I had protein overload from my first time doing a protein treatment. I used what you said, bought the VO5 shampoo and It helped a lot. A have low porosity protein sensitive hair, I believe. And since I knew protein didn't work for me I tried henna just to strengthen my hair. What a mistakes. The results were just like I suffered years ago with the protein treatment. I didn't realize it was rich in protein. Can you please tell me what I can do to reverse the effects. I heard it was permanent, more permanent than a protein treatment but that there is a chemical you can you. Do you know about this? If so can you please tell me what to do, at no risk to you of course. I will be completely responsible for the outcome, good or bad. I know you are trying to help people and I need help. Thank you.

    Thank you for this research🤗. Am really suffering here with more breakage than am used to. I thought I needed protein after experiencing heat damage on my low porosity hair since it was breaking and I did the 2 step aphogee protein treatment, but my hair is still breaking, am thinking it was too much protein🤷🏾‍♀️🙄😪.
    Can any protein free sulfate shampoo work? or is it just these two shampoos that you mentioned work to get the protein overload out?

      @hadjaomorou 3 года назад

      You can use any !! I looked in my house and guess what I had a protein free moisturizing shampoo from dollar tree so lucky me , but the only question I have left is do u just have to do this once to get rid of the protein overload or...

    Thank you for this video!!! I cut my long locs, to experience my loose natural hair again. Based on the glass test, I have low porosity hair, fine and slighty thick hair so not totally really thin, but even with using all the TGIN products, my hair is growing and thriving, and they do have protein in TGIN. So should I begin stripping my hair of protein. The moisture level of my hair was terrible until using TGIN.

    Just subbed. Protein overload is always my problem. I know what to beware of in drugstores but what about ayruveda? I recently bought some products from product junkie naturals, a ayruveda based black woman owned hair care line. But i don't know what products are good for protein or moisture. Online is contradictive. A site will tell u that fenugreek is high protein and high moisture. I. Confused. Please help

    I'm using a Coco bentaine shampoo and I have been noticing a protein overload, do you think it works as a protein??? Does coconut oil in ingridents work as a protein

    • @babegirlaya
      @babegirlaya 3 года назад

      Coconut is full of proteins, thats why its not suggested for anyone to use it, if you only noticed that after using the shampoo, then it could be the reason for your protein overload.

  • @romy3582

    Yas!! Thankyou for ur videos. Right at it now with my protein overloaded hair, doing everything I can to moisturize it. Seems to be harder than it sounds.. found out on a lot of siency hair blogs that plant extracts (like aloe u mentioned) can also be an issue. For example Irish moss extract.. they say can act as a bomb of protein. Also flaxseed etc. Even in kinky curly or UFD u can find extracts.
    Thought i was finally getting there.. but now...extracts.😯Do u have any suggestion, or should I just trial and error?

    • @AfopeAtoyebi
      @AfopeAtoyebi  4 года назад +1

      Hey Julia, I don't think all extracts carry a lot of protein. Certainly not enough to affect your hair in the small concentrations they are usually used in products. I'd say if you like the sound of a product that has these ingredients in, so far as they're closer to the end of the list, then you should be fine. Don't stress about it

      @@AfopeAtoyebi Hi, okay so its relatively. I was thinking of products which have plant extracts first on the list. Ill just experiment with it! my hair loves aloe, im glad about that. thankyou

    • @AfopeAtoyebi
      @AfopeAtoyebi  4 года назад +2

      Thank you!! It's difficult to say but judging by the fact that a number of the products you use on a regular basis contain protein and don't affect your hair negatively, I'm guessing you have normal-high porosity hair. If this is the case, you might benefit from more protein. I prefer to keep my protein use to deep conditioners and treatments so I can monitor it easily. But if what you have is working for your hair, then stick with it girl.

    Hello,
    On your video where you discussed protein free products you recommended the tresemee and you said you use that but in this video I noticed you used a different product. Is it still okay to use the tresemee for protein overload hair? Or would you recommend the other product? Or both??
