I'm still the most upset about the Nightwing movie getting cancelled. He's easily my favorite DC character and one that's long overdue for a movie. But hey, if it ever happens in the new DCU, I have an idea or two on how it could work
I agree, after Man of Steel they should had made Man of Steel 2 and then Batman vs Superman. Man of Steel is the reason I started liking Superman and I was just waiting for a sequel and more Henry Cavil Superman appearance. Sadly we will never get to see this. WB really F-UP the DCEU. Hopefully James Gunn fixes the DCU and makes a proper universe.
I'm really curious about why it was man of steel that made you got interested in Superman because I'm not even a big Superman fan. But when I saw it, this was the worst butchering of a main DC character since Frank Miller's All Star Batman and Robin.
Back up a couple years. They should have made the sequel to Superman Returns and the planned Justice League. But Nolan had so much control, apparently because he was hemming and hawing on whether or not to do DKR and possibly a fourth film. So they kissed his bum for 5 years.
The big reason I’ll never get over Man Of Steel 2 not happening is because I heard Brainiac would have possibly been the main villain for the movie! My second favorite Superman villain after Parasite!
You can pinpoint to exactly when the DCEU fell off a cliff: when WB overreacted to the response to BvS - a film they alreadly meddled with. Had they allowed Snyder to release his vision for Justice League the first time- they would have had a much better outcome than what they ended up with.
WB has a tendency to overcorrect their “problems”. It’s like the Tim Burton Batman. Batman Returns got backlash for being too dark, so they overcorrect by firing Burton and hiring someone who would make Batman Forever more light, campy, and colorful. Now WB were worried about the backlash of BvS being too dark, so they got rid of Snyder during JL production, and hired Whedon to make it lighter and more mainstream.
Studio interferences definitely did it, they didn't let anyone really make movies (like look at all these canceled announced films that never even had a director let alone a writer, or they hired someone just for their name recognition and fired them when they actually started creating something cause they didn't actually want them to do their own thing) they tried to over control a slate that they really had no genuine vision or plans for, it was all promises and incompetent behind the scenes executive decisions
It was doomed to begin with. By the time the DCEU started, MCU was 5 years deep. So of course WB execs felt pressure to compete. They wanted to capitalize on the success of super heroes
Part of me is a bit bummed because of its wasted potential. At the same time though, I’m glad it’s finally dead. The lack of confidence and cohesion from WB ultimately killed it.

In fact, the cancelation of Batgirl happened before they even got the job as heads of DC and made the reset plan official. Back when Batgirl was cancelled, while there was some scratching heads over the future of the DCEU, there was still some hope that it might still continue. Let's not forget the temporary hype we had for the Black Adam post credit scene. 2. Batman Beyond is not happening. Not even as an anaimted film. Reports circulated this year that an animated Spiderverse style Batman Beyond movie was planned, but cancelled once James Gunn and Peter Safran had their plans set firm for DC, which incolved a bigger connected universe across film, TV, games, etc. 3. Nightwing, as far as I knowz was not intended to be a Elseworld story. It set to take place in the main timeline. A lot of people are gonna hate me for this, but to clear up some of the confusion: Zack Snyder PLANNED to have Dick Grayson be the dead Robin, with Carrie Kelley eventually taking the mantle. However, he revealed later (I believe at the WB Movie lot) that upon the idea of Chris Mckay making a Nightwing movie, WB asked him to change the dead Robin to instead be Jason Todd. Honestly I prefer that idea. I'd be a waste to kill off Robin so early, and having him seperate from Batman after Jason's death and become Nightwing had so many story opportunities. But like many things in this universe, it was not meant to be

The problem isn't the projects. If the order makes sense in the overall story that's fine, because if you expect for them to go superman, batman, flash, green lantern, etc, then gunn's dcu is heading to the same mistakes. You have creature commandos before batman. So, we gotta trust there's a thought out order this time.
You´re right It is true that a character like Batman will bring more people to the theatres then the New Gods But if it doesnt have a strong team of directors, writers, etc that work togheter and are passionate then it doesnt work either

This list just proves what killed the DCEU and was the actual problem was Warner Bros. Executives. If they let Zack and the other directors tell the story they had planned from Man of Steel to Justice League Part III it would’ve been really something. I read that Zack Snyder wanted to show Robin’s death in one of the JL sequels, after Joker kills Robin he would burn down Wayne manor and he described it as a drawn out fight scene would’ve been cool to see a badass fight scene between Robin and Joker in Wayne manor with everything on fire
I'd rather have a Green Lantern/Green Arrow movie than a standalone Green Lantern movie. Because of the show, they already have an established lore, so they can't adapt Green Lantern: Earth One. That would be the only good solo Lantern movie that we could have gotten.

Every time I keep thinking about the DCU, I keep thinking about all the stuff that didn't get made instead of stuff that they get made and you putting it in order like this. I really puts the point home that Warner Brothers was not only rushing it, but then we're literally throwing everything at the wall and seeing what's sticks, especially if something was even loudly successful. Or if they even think something is going to be successful. Like it's it's saying that they were like okay so the suicide squad movie's just about to come out and because we're high on our own supply where it's a good green light are three main actors, big wig actors, own movies. So even before we know how the film does, we're already going to try to have a dead shot joker and Harley Quinn movie and the next like two years and it's like guys stop. You're literally you're not just counting all their chickens before they hatch. You're you're counting all your chickens before they give birth to the eggs!
Some of these I’m glad they cancelled but I’m glad they made the decision to focus on other characters than the main a list justice league characters like green lantern or Martin Manhunter or green arrow. But no they gave us some many villains and not even have the justice league even add new members to the team and go off to fight darkseid. And some sequels that were planned for some of our favorite characters and then never happened. That’s just disappointing and wasted potential. I feel like whoever was thinking of this is just really didn’t even think about it at all

I personally liked most of the DCEU other than the Shazam movies and I think most of the characters were miscast like Affleck,Cyborg,Flash,Shazam,Harley Quinn but then I liked characters like Wonder Woman,Superman,the Birds of Prey and everyone in Black Adam and I’m sad to see it go but I am very excited for the DCU
Would’ve loved Superman Vs Brainiac, with an introduction of Martian Manhunter or Green Lantern. Something that takes place in space rather then Metropolis

Bruce trains for 5 year at 18, 22 when he becomes Batman. 23 he takes in Dick Grayson as Robin. 28 Dick leaves and he meets Jason. Jason is Robin till Batman is about 30. Year off then he meets Tim Dark 32 and then Damian replaces him at 36.
How can you not be excited for the new gods . Dark side wouldn’t have been the only character not the movie Big barda Mr miracle Orion , the female ferries, granny goodness did you not grow up seeing the dcau shows, that where I was introduced to them. Fan base is so divided its comical, on one hand you have people saying give us different characters instead of the usual and on the other hand you have people saying movies like Black Adam and Blue Beetle flopped because nobody knows who these characters are, among other reasons. Personally I want both, I want Batman and Superman movies but I also want New Gods and perhaps a Zatanna movie🤷🏾♀️ Whatever James Gunn has cooking at WB, I hope its well done 👍🏾
I think we will get both sides. James Gunn is obviously catering to that with his annocement of things. Will it be good I hope so but it all relys on Superman legacy being good.
And I'm glad, because DCEU finally bites the dust. Now I can watch Reeves' The Batman in peace and hope that Gunn can deliver and actually make good movies unlike Snyder :)
My only problem was how inconsistent the dceu was, over the last 10 years there’s been 15 movies, 3 this year so if you don’t count this years movies that would be 1 movie every year and that’s it for the dceu that year

Admittedly I also love Dectective Chimp Also it wouldn't be Darkseid by himself. Most rumored versions of the Script treatment had Mister Miracle and Big Barda as the main characters

So yes Zack Snyder has a hand in the downfall of DCEU. But the majority of problems with the DCEU is mishandling of WB old executives. They should have hired someone like Bruce Timm to make a plan for DCEU and let Snyder direct some movies under that person.

I read that Zack Snyder wanted to show Robin’s death in one of the JL sequels, after Joker kills Robin he would burn down Wayne manor and he described it as a drawn out fight scene would’ve been cool to see a badass fight scene between Robin and Joker in Wayne manor with everything on fire

I'd rather have a Green Lantern/Green Arrow movie than a standalone Green Lantern movie. Because of the show, they already have an established lore, so they can't adapt Green Lantern: Earth One. That would be the only good solo Lantern movie that we could have gotten.

Every time I keep thinking about the DCU, I keep thinking about all the stuff that didn't get made instead of stuff that they get made and you putting it in order like this. I really puts the point home that Warner Brothers was not only rushing it, but then we're literally throwing everything at the wall and seeing what's sticks, especially if something was even loudly successful. Or if they even think something is going to be successful. Like it's it's saying that they were like okay so the suicide squad movie's just about to come out and because we're high on our own supply where it's a good green light are three main actors, big wig actors, own movies. So even before we know how the film does, we're already going to try to have a dead shot joker and Harley Quinn movie and the next like two years and it's like guys stop. You're literally you're not just counting all their chickens before they hatch. You're you're counting all your chickens before they give birth to the eggs!
Some of these I’m glad they cancelled but I’m glad they made the decision to focus on other characters than the main a list justice league characters like green lantern or Martin Manhunter or green arrow. But no they gave us some many villains and not even have the justice league even add new members to the team and go off to fight darkseid. And some sequels that were planned for some of our favorite characters and then never happened. That’s just disappointing and wasted potential. I feel like whoever was thinking of this is just really didn’t even think about it at all

I personally liked most of the DCEU other than the Shazam movies and I think most of the characters were miscast like Affleck,Cyborg,Flash,Shazam,Harley Quinn but then I liked characters like Wonder Woman,Superman,the Birds of Prey and everyone in Black Adam and I’m sad to see it go but I am very excited for the DCU

Bruce trains for 5 year at 18, 22 when he becomes Batman. 23 he takes in Dick Grayson as Robin. 28 Dick leaves and he meets Jason. Jason is Robin till Batman is about 30. Year off then he meets Tim Dark 32 and then Damian replaces him at 36.

4 of the justice League characters had their own solo movies and none of them was Batman.
Fan base is so divided its comical, on one hand you have people saying give us different characters instead of the usual and on the other hand you have people saying movies like Black Adam and Blue Beetle flopped because nobody knows who these characters are, among other reasons. Personally I want both, I want Batman and Superman movies but I also want New Gods and perhaps a Zatanna movie🤷🏾♀️ Whatever James Gunn has cooking at WB, I hope its well done 👍🏾

So yes Zack Snyder has a hand in the downfall of DCEU. But the majority of problems with the DCEU is mishandling of WB old executives. They should have hired someone like Bruce Timm to make a plan for DCEU and let Snyder direct some movies under that person.
