  • BBC has departed. Box is getting crippled as time goes on.
This box is from around 1998.
Also applies to any non-HD freesat recievers. If you see one for sale, avoid unless you dont like watching the BBC.

I reckon many people were still using these boxes before they shut the SD channels down. I have a Sky+HD box and it's been awesome as I've had no Internet since i recently moved and we conveniently have a Satellite dish and cable going into the livingroom. Really awesome using it as I've had ZERO issues. Satellite is so reliable. All the free channels work. Im getting HD aswell which i think you have to pay extra for on SkyQ which is messed up.
We haven't got traditional TV much longer so let's enjoy. In 2013 when i was about 12 i would watch Grand Designs on my old silver Sky box which belonged to my mum previously. Im sad that i got rid of it as it was in great condition, had purple remote too. In the livingroom we had the white Sky+ box with the white remote.

I was surprised when I first saw this!
JSYK, in Egypt (the country I'm in rn), BBC News (formely BBC World News), still continues in SD, meaning you can watch it on an SD-capable receiver, and on HD receivers also. And we also have a plenty of other BBC Channels such as BBC News Arabic which continues in SD as well, same with BBC News Persia, still continues in SD, making it easy for people who only have an old CRT TV and an old SD-capable receiver to *still* view BBC World News, BBC News Arabic, and BBC News Persia.

Soo if you can’t access bbc content this means you don’t need a tv license surely 🤔

Unless you don’t have a HD TV I cannot see a good reason why you would still use a Sky SD Box

It's not a good enough reason to upgrade to Sky Q When we got to working HD boxes.

Yeah sky HD boxes still work fine, it's the very old first generation SD only boxes that don't.

BBC decided to close their standard definition (non-HD) channels to fully transition to HDTV. This box doesn't recieve the HD channels, and thus, can't access BBC.

Surely Sky should be offering customers some sort of upgrade for this

BBC are still using S.D. for East Midlands local news on freeview, after a 12 year wait for local news coverage.

More money expected to be forked out in a cost of living crisis bbc has already raised the licensing by well over inflation now that's not good enough... scrap the fee
