  • Sky Stream is Sky's new way to watch their TV channels through the internet rather than via a satellite dish AND without long contracts.
Sound familiar? Yep, Sky's NOW already does this - but there are some differences.
I've compared the costs and what you get to help you work out which will save you the most money.

I think the important thing here is that similar to Tesco Sky are trying to offer Value, Finest, Regular etc. For me the fact that the Sky Stream can pull in all my subscriptions into 1 UI and I can watch in multiple rooms without having to have an aerial in every room which was the reason I got Q even though it often failed.
As Andy says if it's about saving money then NOW is the best offer, but if it's the user experience, having everything in one place without having to switch between apps/hdmi then Stream seems good.
Ultimately I think Sky will only offer Stream like services in the future be that NOW or Glass/Stream

Switched to now tv. Got entertainment and boost (3 streams and HD AD free) for £8.33 a month for next 6 months.
    That’s £360 saved immediately.
For me F1 is a rip off now. £18 a month and you pay for the full 12 months despite there being no races in December - Feb.
Stream is too expensive at the minute and the need to have extra boxes is a pain. I like the UI in comparison to NOW - integration with other streaming services is nice too. But I’ll stick with NOW for now.

Good vid for illustrating once again NOT to end up feeling as though you've been mugged. I have two quite full folders on correspondence covering the closing of my account with SKY, many, many, MANY pages that illustrate just how shocking they are when it came, in that instance, FACT; to close the account. To say that one hand did not know what the other was doing is an understatement. 😶Their so called 'customer service' if one could call it that.. proved why we won't do business with SKY ever! Overall if you add up ALL of the average costs / outlay.. can you afford it.. something particularly with the current economic situation ?? 😶I see future wise some radical changes coming because if they want to survive? As you rightly point out, there are a huge number of alternative available AND saving a considerable amount of money in the process. 👀

Virgin is good in that its cheaper it also has a clean interface and allows you to set up your guide just showing the channels u own, however i would not describe it as hd at all... You also must have virgin internet. Sky you can have any internet its the sky q interface pricing is more and many freeview channels missing. I believe there is 18 months deals coming on 18th november. My sky has lost wifi a few times but the picture quality is hd and much better quality than virgin youll also get sky atlantic and a few more premium channels i got mine for 23 a month including netflix and this is availble now at sky unlike the advertised day but youll need to get a 30 day rolling as no 18 month deals as yet. Id personally recomend sky and customer service is uk. When i called virgin i got no where at all.

The selling point for me with Sky Stream is the ability to watch UHD content in multiple rooms. It’s the one thing that drives me crazy with Sky Q that only the main box is UHD and the mini boxes aren’t.
This causes problems for me and my bro who share a flat together. He likes to watch the F1 in UHD and I like to watch the Football on Sunday in UHD and sometimes they clash.
So we got Sky Q multi room so that I could watch the football in UHD in my bedroom, while he uses the living room only to discover after ordering that Sky Q mini boxes aren’t UHD so this didn’t solve the problem at all.
I also can’t watch any of the latest UHD shows in my bedroom either and since I mainly use my bedroom while my bro has the living room it means I have to wait until the living rooms free in order to watch TV shows on Sky in UHD.
Also I’ve heard that live sports are saved to the cloud if you add them to your playlist if they aren’t available on demand straight after viewing so that’s the only possible issue I would’ve had, as often I have to record evening midweek games or early games on Saturday due to work.
For me this means Sky Stream is the most appealing service and I’m not bothered about recording stuff to keep for a long period of time.
The ability to watch UHD in multiple rooms is enough for me and that can’t be achieved with Sky Q or Now TV so I’m planning to switch from Sky Q to Sky Stream as soon as it’s available. I’ll likely sign up for 18 months and negotiate a decent price as part of the switch from Sky Q.

The NowTV Entertainment package may be £9.99, but you only get 16 extra channels in HD (if you pay the extra £5, so £14.99 really). On Sky Stream you get over 100 HD channels as standard with an option to boost many of them to 4K. So NowTV isn’t actually that good in comparison, if anything that’s the one that’s overpriced, not Sky Stream.

I was looking forward to trying sky stream but think I'll give it a miss as it's a complete rip off, especially with all there stupid £5 charges for things that should be standard. God knows why there throwing Netflix in SD in there Ultimate package, I mean who the hell want's that as most already have the full Netflix package, they definitely need to make there packages more flexible and cheaper. I've currently got BT TV Pro box with now TV Entertainment package in HD and can record any show I want, fast forward and rewind etc and it's costing around £16 per month, has pretty much exactly the same channels as Sky stream ultimate with the exception of Discovery content, I subscribe to Discovery plus separately and get all there content. I also have Apple TV box 4k and there subscription at £4.99 per month (bargain!) Prime video and top of the range Netflix subscription. All of that content combined comes in at just under £50 per month, just goes to show stream is a rip off. Also very importantly which sky don't mention either is say you miss a show on Discovery that you like, you've added it to your list and want to watch it later, you press the watch button and it redirects you to the app to watch which would be Discovery plus, Discovery plus is NOT included in the package even though your paying for Discovery content in your package! That content is another £6.99 per month. This is where Sky are dumb, Discovery plus in HD with the Eurosport catch up service should be included in the ultimate package and ditch the shitty Netflix in SD which literally nobody wants. Another problem with stream is ITV, say you've missed the voice for example and you've added to your list in itv HD, you push the watch button and it redirects you to the truly horrendous ITV app where everything is in standard definition and has a million commercials in it, it's awful. So for me I've got everything I need and can record and fast forward etc and have catch up if needed. If sky stream was recordable then that would have been a much better solution but the way it works quite frankly is crap. My BT TV Pro box is essentially a streaming box and can record, so why can't sky do that? Probably cause they get more money out of these criminal £5 charges all over the place.
