      I feel Korra should be higher on the list. She learned Aang's Energy bending that could take away and give back a person's bending, learned spiritual bending to defeat Unavatu without Rava, brought humans and spirits together, put her life on the line for the new air nomads, and deflected a raw energy blast from a spirit cannon and created a 3rd portal into the spirit world. She was also the first Avatar to master metal bending.

    • @lucykim513
      @lucykim513 2 года назад +86

      @@N.G.H. Korra did do alot for the world but I don't think she could've beat the avatars ranked above her. They might have not gone through some of the bigger battles Korra went through but they were more experienced. Korra also never learned to energy bend. Aang gave her that power. She also had MANY experienced benders and friends helping her along the way. The other avatars did everything more or less by themselves. (excluding Aang of course) Korra was never alone. She had very talented masters, and peers always fighting alongside her. Avatar Korok, for example, fought dangerous spirits to save the physical world by himself. Could Korra be as powerful as she is now without having Aang who gave her the power to energy bend or without having the masters to teach her, or her friends that taught her so much? Could she have learned to metal bend without Suyin? The generation that Korra was born in was ALOT more developed than any other avatars generation and this gave Korra ALOT of advantages. So much was just handed to her in terms of honing her skill. And could Korra beat Kyoshi or Aang? Just comparing their bending skills and fighting ability alone, I think its highly unlikely. But it's probable she could beat the other avatars if she tried hard enough.

Since he became the first avatar ever, combining with the spirit of light, Rava, and beginning the Avatar Cycle almost 10,000 years prior to Avatar Aang. So he's a really important avatar, also Avatar Wan didn't have the knowledge or wisdom of past avatars unlike all of the avatars that succeeded him.
      So it's phenomenal how much Wan was able to accomplish without any past knowledge or wisdom. He may not be the most powerful avatar but he is by no means a pushover. So you should give Avatar Wan a lot more credit and respect, which he rightfully deserves, without Wan there would be no avatar period.

    Korra is underrated. I would definitely put her in the top 3. Her power and kind of bending is truly strong. Also she was the first ever Avatar who bended Metall. She lost to Amon first, but beated him only with the airbending. This was a thing she learned 2 seconds ago. And then 4 seconds later... Amon was beaten.
    Thats incredible and she did things that are never done by an Avatar before her. Also she was even to bend 3 Elements with like 4/5 years. Aang only noticed that he has more than 1 Element where he was 11. And Korra didn't even had a Master to learn with. She only had the Water Nation and she learned 2 Elements alone.

Aang had to learn to bend every element in less than a year, while traveling the world to avoid his pursuers, meaning that he never got to immerse himself in the other nations' cultures and politics like Avatars before him did before they started their duty. I would argue that Avatar Wan is the strongest for a few reasons.
    1) Avatar Wan started the Avatar cycle. This shows strength simply through intelligence and courage. Wan had no idea how to even bend, managed to convince a Lion Turtle to let him retain his power and roam free. He was able to merge with the Spirit of Light, master the other 3 elements, and then fought, beat, and trapped the Spirit of Darkness.
    2) Wan had a very deep spiritual connection. It's understandable seeing that he lived with Spirits unlike Aang, and the former half of Korra. He was able to befriend the spirits; again, he was also able to convince Raava to merge with him (although they didn't really have any other choices). This is spiritual strength, and emotional prowess. To befriend spirits we have already seen that people need to keep their emotions in check.
    3) Avatar Wan defeated the spirit of Darkness, and fought in many different armies (as seen at the end) without any extra assistance from any super powerful benders (given the fact that bending was new to everyone). He didn't have other Avatars to guide him, he didn't have any true friends (it seems) to motivate him. He fought for peace largely by himself. Again another example of confidence, courage, and a great deal of emotional strength, and raw power to fight for so long; I mean he was old at the end (probably just the stress of it all though).
    I can definitely get behind the argument that every avatar should be stronger than the last given that they have all of the previous Avatar's power, but as Avatar, Roku, Korra, and Kuruk have shown us, that isn't always the case. Strength is something you have to invest in, even as the Avatar. But again, I would argue that not having that access and still succeeding makes you strong (in Wan's case).
    Also, I wouldn't say that energy bending makes you inherently strong. As far as we've seen, energy bending can grant or take away bending, and manipulate spirit energy. But for generations avatars have kept the peace without it. It's not like it changed the game all that much, because of it's limited uses.
    I'm not sure I would say any Avatar is stronger than Wan. Unless we are defining strength as pure bending skill, and ability, then I say this list is definitely wrong.

    • @TheRealXartaX
      @TheRealXartaX 2 года назад +2

      I feel like the only bender that can compete with Wan is Aang. And the justification given in the video feels like a bit of a cop out ("his real strength was his strength of will"). What possibly sets Aang apart is how quickly he learned, as well as how he mastered energy bending. But the speed of learning is not really relevant to how powerful he is in the moment. And Energy bending is basically useless in a fight (it's just used to make an opponent useless after the battle is already settled through other means, to avoid killing them). Wan after merging basically effortlessly imprisoned Vaatu like it was a morning routine or something. Which is a feat I don't think any other avatar can eclipse. Even Aang in the avatar state had to build up an arsenal (the bubble thing with all the elements around him) first and use it to launch attacks at Ozai. Wan literally just snapped his fingers and Vaatu was imprisoned.

      @@sagestation7831 If anything I feel like TLOK did Aang a massive disservice, and considering the base foundation of his character after TLAB he should be way stronger during Korra's time. Sure Aang was a pacifist and not really interested in fighting, but he did love bending and working on his skills. As it stands, "peak Aang" is basically his Ozai fight. You might say he pulled off energy bending a bit more effortlessly during his old age, but it could also be argued that's because his opponent had a much weaker spirit than Ozai. If Aang had continued to capitalize on his extreme talent into his old age, then he might have eclipsed Wan.

    Factually speaking I'd have to say Aang was the strongest Avatar. This is because Roku said the Avatar State focuses the energy of Raava and all of the previous Avatars through the current Avatar's body when activated, meaning that the more Avatars that there are before the previous one the more energy and power they receive when in the Avatar State which is when they're at their most powerful. I would've said Korra, but she lost her connection with her past lives meaning she also lost access to their power and energy. So now she only has access to Raava's power like Wan originally did.

    Something that I legit always loved about avatar is that while an avatar achieves many great things in their lifetime, they always end off with some sort of big regret that the next avatar has to resolve.
    Roku's action of sparring sozin lead to the 100 year war and he died with regret that he couldn't stop sozin.
    Aang suffered from that action and loss the air nomads and had to end that 100 year war while never truly being able to rebuild the air nation.
    Korra's action of creating more actual balance with the spiritual side of the world lead to more of an actual balance with the elements, making reviving the air nation possible and fulfilling aang's biggest regret. However the actual actions to create that balance lead to Korra losing direct connection with her past lives, a major burden that the next avatar will have to resolve and obviously the big regret korra has from the journey as the avatar.

    Frankly, I'd rank Avatar Wan significantly higher than many of the other Avatars.
    Sure, he doesn't have any of the previous Avatar's experience to draw on, however, he has the closest connection to Raava, and has tapped directly into the power of harmonic convergence. Not to mention, the forms of bending he performs seem significantly different to the modern forms of bending. It is likely he may have forgotten more than many of the modern avatars have ever learned.
    He flew on clouds rather than a Wind Orb or Wind Wheel. He actually moves fire, rather than just shoots and directs momentary jets of flames.
    He gained bending directly from each Lion Turtle by gaining their energy.

    I'd say Korra should've been higher, she showed to be a true prodigy at such a young age and her use of the Avatar State against Vatuu before he fused with Unalaq was masterful in her part. The real thing she lacked is real world experience because she was sheltered away, this is a disadvantage on her part. The other Avatars ventured and gained unmatched wisdom and skills by learning to live with people from all over the world. On the other hand, she came to Republic City, a modernized metropolis, with no knowledge whatsoever.
    She's the only Avatar who didn't travel the world and in turn, a lot of things hindered her especially in fights and decision-makings. But this much shouldn't take much of her credit for saving the world from a lot of threats while being on the other side of the spectrum when it comes to dealing with them.

      I'd say Kuruk. He's extremely underrated. Yangchen just abandoned her duties and favoured humans over the spirits. She let the humans abuse and corrupt spirits, turning them dark and in the next life Kuruk had to stop the dark spirits from unleashing chaos and evil upon the world, doing all this while not letting a SINGLE person know. No one. He didn't tell anyone because he didn't want Yangchen's reputation to be tarnished. I know it doesn't seem like it to a lot of people, but he's actually one of the most important Avatars. He prevented the world from delving into chaos everyday. But when you hunt dark spirits your overall life expectancy decreases. And because of him hunting spirits, he lost his wife's face to Koh the Face Stealer, and he also died very young because of the life expectancy thing. He's one of the bravest and most selfless Avatars.

      Personally, I would say the bravest Avatar could be Kuruk. It’s no secret Yangchen sorely dedicated her time and effort towards balancing the physical world, while mostly ignoring the spiritual world. As an Avatar’s duty is commonly fixing the mistakes of the previous Avatar, Kuruk did exactly that. He spent the entirety of his life preventing an all out war between the spirits and humans by focusing on absolving dark spirits of their impurities. While this is happening, many are slandering his name as several see him as lazy, and forgetting his duty to the people. In fact, he chose to keep his spiritual missions secret in order to keep from tarnishing Yangchen’s reputation. There is courage in unmarked glory; and I think this is extremely well represented in the [mis]education of Kuruk.

      @@Strangelyfey I really think the writing and the fact that they had only planned for one season did Korra dirty. They had to nerf her every new season and the animation and budget never made her do much more than slinging some projectiles at enemies. Only difference was that sometimes it was a fireball and sometimes it was a rock. The most dissapointing part was that a 90-100 year old Toph still fought with a similar creativity as in the original series and ragdolled Korra. On top of that, because of the nerfs she was overly reliant on her avatar state because the story would not have been compelling if Korra just bodied everyone even without the avatar state. Aang managed to get a lot of victories without it.
      For those reasons I just can't say that Korra is never shown to be anywhere close in combat skill to anyone of the powerhouses in the original. Purely based on what is shown in the series, Korra without the avatarstate loses to Azula, Ozai, Iroh, prime Toph, prime Katara, prime Zuko and probably the other two member of the white lotus: the watertribe master that taught Katara and the firebender that first tried to teach Aang. With the avatarstate she still loses to Aang.
      You can probably tell I was dissapointed in the lack of creativity and scale in the bending compared to original.
