Azula can even generate lightning when she's not mentally stable. That's impressive since Iroh said generating lightning need peace of mind tho.
One interpretation is that it just requires emptiness of mind. Concentration upon emptiness rather than inner peace or calm. Azula had a lot of emptiness to draw on.
I found it in a comic on Pinterest. I can’t take credit. But yes, it is intriguing, and makes more sense.
I believe this is more of a plot inconsistently honestly. In the comics they have her failing at lightning generation because of her instability.
Maybe they found a different way that didn't need peace of mind? It was said that the true way to firebend was lost. Idk just a theory.

@President Coin Yeah and Muhammad Ali lost to Frazier his first fight. He underprepared and was inactive for three years. A loss is a loss. Yeah he won both rematches, but he still lost the first fights. Ali is better than Frazier but, he isn't way better.

Zuko reacted impressively fast, but Lightning Bending has to be done very deliberately and is incredibly telegraphed. Zuko knew Azula was going to target Katara with the lightning a moment before she actually let it go.
Lightning bending is very telegraphed and he had less distance to cover than the blast

Had Azula reached maturity in both mind and body at the age of Ozai's age, she would have definetly been the strongest firebender in history.
Hotter blue flames.
Fire propulsion without Sozin's Comet.
Insane physical dexterity.
Strategic mindset.
She was just too young, and too emotionally disturbed to have her potential grow.

@@Sanfupaw Azula would never understand the dragons' lesson, assuming they would even teach her. I think the ranking is based on a character's ENTIRE being (i.e including their personality and reasoning), that's why Ozai is more powerful than Iroh, even though Iroh would beat Ozai if he were more unhinged and had less self-doubt. You are who you are, flaws and all. If you didn't have any of your flaws or talents, you wouldn't be you.

Azula is the product of Sozin's bloodline and Roku's bloodline. That's why she's strong.
Bloodline alone is a blueprint for greatness, but Azula wouldn’t be as powerful as she is without her desire to be a perfect fire bender, innovative techniques, and training. Her mindset helps to set her apart from others.

@@Teemo6544 some people get lucky with genetics, siblings are often different from one another and also Azula’s mentality towards power and firebending was different than Zuko’s from the start
Quick edit: seeing how Ozai treated Zuko probably made Azula want to not be treated as the weak one, they touch on this in the comics. That’s just a little side note

Iroh is perfect. He's wise, funny, kindhearted, and powerful. He doesn't even need plot armor to survive.

He is nicknamed the "Dragon of the West" for his skill, wisdom, and talents. Ozai couldnt defeat a teenager half his age. What about his older brother who has 30x the experience?

Jeong has created larger amounts of Fire than anyone in the series that borders on Sozin Comet level. However, we never see him use fire for offense. But from what we see his firebending appears more powerful than anything we see Iroh do

@@billclark5055 I agree. As much praise as Iroh gets we never see him firebend really. We see him fight firebenders using hand to hand combat (like Azula’s entourage or the Rough Rhinos) and we only see Ozai’s normal firebending once

I also always noticed the fear in Zhao's eyes when Iroh started to attack his men and him, the sheer fear he puts into Zhao there at night when their bending is at it's weakest (as stated by characters in the series as well that Firebending is weaker during the night while stronger during the day and Waterbenders are stronger during the night while weakened during the day) it shows how terrifying Iroh's Bending actually is

mako is a gem, he can both bend and redirect lightning/electricity and he bent it WHILE amon was bloodbending him. and he learned that all from the triple triads
Lightning bolt Zolt was definitely no slouch seeing how he was a notorious criminal, (lightning in the name!) but he looked weak next to Amon though which is why people underrate him

Reasons,
He's not like other fire benders fueling their fire bending by agressive and anger.
He found out true fire bending which is not in the muscles but in breath from dragons and got a Nick name dragon of the west thereby.
He was the one who penetrated the walls of Ba Sing Se while he was a general, and one who penetrated it again with his fire bending from breath while the Sozin's Comet arrived.
He was the one who created a new technique "Directing the lightning" by studying water benders without anyone's help.
He was proud of the fire nation by fighting the battles when Ozai cunningly worked to take his birthright from his father.
He was the Grand Lotus of the white lotus society working with other nations to end the battle and to save Ba Sing Se.
He was a spiritual guy of the fire nation apart from the Avatar Roku. He deeply connected with the spiritual world to see the spirit whith his naked eye in the material world.
He was a wise who advises everytime in every situation to everyone without any partiality.
I don't care of the rest of the places but #1 should be Iroh.

I absolutely love Azulas story but sometimes I wish she never went insane so we could see how strong she truly would be able to grow, considering how powerful she already was at her young age I think she could've been one of, if not the strongest firebender if she kept her intense rage. I also sometimes wonder how strong she would've been if she turned her life around and like Zuko, learned the proper way to bend. But that doesn't mean I want them to change the plot, I'm just curious.
Azula was initially going to get an arc but they couldn't air more episodes. rip.

Personal opinion- after the show, Zuko and Azula surpassed Jeong Jeong. His fear of the element held him back, whereas those two siblings had no such restraint. Zuko also used jet propulsion, at night in the South Pole. Not to mention he generated dragon fire.
Just because you choose not to punch your sister doesn't mean your not much stronger. Just because he feared the element doesn't reduce his power, that's just dumb!! Not to mention after Avatar Roku spoke to him all that went out the window.

If you are afraid of falling over by running too fast, you are going to be a little more careful. And by not actually giving it his all in any training he may use, he is going to restrict his own abilities. And yeah, he did a fancy fire wall trick. Zuko’s dragon fire had a bunch of would be assassins surrendering immediately, and was similarly powerful to me. Keep in mind also that as powerful as Jeong Jeong is, this is him at his theoretical prime. Zuko is younger, but has demonstrated significant power. I imagine a few years along he would be indubitably more powerful.

Jeong jeong is on firelord level since he performed many sozins comet level feats casually and if he used offense he may be able to fight iroh or ozai

@@mateuszkubas4433 The wasting of a potential amazing character on Prince General Iroh is one of the many complains TLOK has. It was very few of him that was seen, but even that few was impressive and many people feel it would have been worthy to give him a little more roll on the different events that happened in TLOK.
We saw more of General Iroh than we did of the Sun Warriors. He should have made the list.

Azula has the best firebending feats all around. Blue fire, flying with fire propulsion without Sozin’s comet, generating lightning, diverging her lightning into multiple paths, insane athleticism to evade Aang and Toph during the day of black sun, and then there’s all the stuff in the comics like the lightning ball, redirecting lightning, and instant lightning. Looking at pure feats, she’s the best fire bender of all time for me.

Tbh I'm so glad how everyone is pointing out Azula. Zuko and Azula were prophecized to be the start of a new line of powerful firebenders. She is called a firebending prodigy by her father and brother. She is compared to lightning (the strongest sub-element of fire) by IROH. Her blue fire burns hotter than anyone else's and is recognized as formidable by Katara. She uses jet propulsion regularly without Sozin's comet. She created firebending forms using her acrobatic skills. And she generated lightning when she was unstable mentally and emotionally. (Iroh said it is not like other firebending... it "REQUIRES peace of mind") plus everything she learns in comics play a part too... lightning redirection and lightning spheres. Azula all the way!

Sozin annoyed me on this list. He did not singlehandedly wipe out the air nomads. He may not even have taken part in it. He was able to bend heat not fire from a volcano which is something we haven’t yet seen from anyone else. He should probably be higher on the list but not for the reasons you stated. 🤦♂️
Well we don’t have a lot of feats for Sozin besides what you just mentioned. But I do agree there reasons for why he is on the list is weird

I think it is because Sozin was powerful, but not pretty skilled in combat. But I agree, he probably could defeat Combustion Man.
Kiyi is an honorable mention BUT NOT AZULON!? The man who raised and trained Iroh and Ozai, the firstborn son of Sozin. The Fire Lord that dominated the Earth Kingdom and Water Tribes. The genius prodigy that compared to Azula. A man even Ozai feared and ACTUALLY slayed dragons! STOP THE CAP!

I’d say that Azula is the most skilled,but Iroh is the most well rounded fire bender(from how he learned from other bending disciplines-lightning redirection/water and standing his ground against the dai lee/earth)

@@qiralyncassette Yes, Azula lacks the experience to be the most skilled. And being a prodigy means you start off exceptionally. Many prodigies peak earlier. Whereas Zuko seems to be more of an exceptional late bloomer.
I knew the big man himself would be the most powerful. I know we didn’t see much of him fighting and firebending, but those few scenes of him showing his power were scary. He was able to make a lot of lightning with only a sliver of the sun.

Hold on, if we're including from the comics, Zuko kind of has to rank as the strongest on this list. Azula may have produced blue fire but Zuko is the only known firebender to ever produce the multicolored dragon fire with his bending. He was a late bloomer but his ability to produce dragon fire proves that he mastered firebending in a truly unique way that nobody else has ever been recorded to match.
But Azula overpowered him in the comics, and blue fire is stronger and hotter than every other fire combined
@@andrewyang6901 who would you say is stronger, Azula or Iroh? Iroh did something only 1 other person (to my knowledge) was capable of - creating a new bending technique. Iroh invented the technique of lightning-redirection. The only other person I know of to invent a new technique is Aang, who invented the air scooter. So it stands to reason that Iroh is stronger than Azula - he has a similar level of mastery, and knowledge of a technique that not only counters one of Azula's most deadly moves but that she has no knowledge of. Iroh taught Zuko the original and true philosophy of firebending even if Zuko didn't recognise it at the time, and yet Zuko went on to produce dragonfire, something that Iroh was never seen to do. Something that nobody else was recorded doing, not even an Avatar.

Ozai uses a lot of different techniques during his fight with Aang, and honestly, we have never seen a bigger fireblast than he did during the comet in ATLA. Also see how fast he generates lightning to shoot a huge strike at Zuko.

Well this is just untrue, Ozai's fireblast was just fire without control. In terms of pure power, Iroh firecannon literally broke through the ba sing se wall, FAR stronger than Ozai's show of strength

Iroh destroyed with a controlled blast the Walls of Ba Sing Se while Ozai put full force in a Ball of earth around Aang and needed like 5 attacks to get him out. Aang blocked with mountains, Ozai only destroyed smaller earthshields. Only the air from Aang in his Avatar State was strong enough to destroy one mountain.
Iroh knows the true powers of firebending and uses breathing as well, Ozai only relies on his sheer power.
Iroh was a General and knows how to attack, Ozai was a politician, his attacks are simple and direct, he is not really thinking but just blasting fire.
Ozai may be stronger (because his younger and therefore nearer to his prime than Iroh) but Iroh would beat him.
Mako should be higher… fire bending/lightening generation and redirection on that scale… crazy take.

The speed in which Ozai created such powerful lighting lighting *mere seconds after the eclipse was over* is proof enough that he is probably the best firebender.
I always read that more as a moral statement. Like, yeah, I could technically wipe the floor with him, but I can't bring myself to be that violent against my own brother.

You know, I never realized until this video, when Azula lighting bends towards Katara, Zuko does redirect it, only he passes it through his heart.
Azula had the highest ceiling out of everyone and she was only like 14. Her fire was blue on top of that so it was even hotter than usual.

Combustion benders are honestly way too underrated. The skill is very rare and if they were also able to generate light ing they would be close to unstoppable.
I think P’li’s value on this list is very underrated. She is the only known fire bender who can both combustion bend and fire bend regularly.

The dragons would have to age a millennia for them to be among the strongest, like Ran and Shaw. What’s stopping someone from shooting lightning at them for instance, I doubt they’ll survive that.

I would point out that without Sozin's Comet we have only seen Ozai fight one opponent; he lost to Zuko via lightning redirection, which Ozai both didn't know and didn't suspect Zuko knew. Plus, Zuko did this as a teen. I think he should rank much higher.

Yeah, during the comet. We saw what the comet does to fire benders with Zuko and Azula. It's insane. Under ordinary circumstances he wouldn't be nearly as strong. I think Iroh or Azula could both have beaten him, provided they were in the right mindset. If not at 14, Azula definitely could have beat him when she grew up. (if she didn't have a mental break down)

He is not displaying Avatar level firebending. The comet and Aangs inexperience makes you think that but a fully realized Avatar would have beaten him probably without even needing to go into the Avatar State.

What makes Iroh powerful, and in my opinion THE best fire bender, his he’s ability to incorporate other skills from other techniques into his own. Lighting redirection he learned from water benders, and when he stopped Commander Zhao he took an Earth bender stance.

I believe that there are different things that should have been taken into account when looking at Iroh's firebending, as for what we are shown in the animated series he is by far the most knowledgeable of the art of fire bending as I believe he was the first to look at the other forms of bending and incorporate them into his own. For this reason I believe Iroh should have been the number 1.

Jeong Jeong is able to generate it from an outside source when he creates his fire walls as well as move it wherever he want to. No other fire bender we've seen do that. He's also able to vanish anywhere with his fire and is able to levitate and actually fly.(Azula uses fire jet boosters). Don't get me wrong Azula is an exceptional fire bender but the only thing she has going for her is her lighting bending other than that in terms of who's more skilled and who'd actually win in a fight Jeong Jeong is above her

Azula is only next to Zuko coz during the comet Zuko was able to stand his ground and give her toughest battle of her life. If it wasn't for Katara he could have defeated her. She was able to generate lightning coz she's the princess of fire nation she never had to worry about anything unlike Zuko, his mind his results all the time.

He could have won against Azula during their last battle, he just had to save Katara. But all in all Azula is way stronger. At the moment of their fight, even Zuko said that she was slipping. Because she was mentally broken. Later in the comics, she defeats him in an instant
I think we would all agree that Azula would probably be one of the best firebenders if she got redeemed and lived for a long time. Honestly, she should had made an appearance in Korra but I guess not.

I would agree and disagree to some extent. This is what I think would happen, so after Smoke and Shadows, Azula becomes a criminal, maybe even a crime lord like the ones we see in Korra. She might even had made her own squad of people like the Red Lotus. But this would be the part where I disagree. I think that she would probably not fully redeem herself but she would be able to talk or interact the Gaang without there being as much tension as there was during the war. If you disagree, that's fine. I respect your opinion.
Mako might not stand a chance againts anyone from the Royal Family, but it is worth noted he has great chances against an Admiral. Zhao was all about rage and destruction, while Mako is about the "cool under fire" stuff 👍🏻
The combustionbenders are way too low. Combustion Man was defeating the entire team Avatar combined and overpowered Zuko, so I don't understand the logic of him being so low. P'li also held her own against a strike force of metalbenders including Lin, Suyin and Kuvira. She was winning until she was blindsided.
Also, Azulon, Iroh II, Rangi and Hei-Ran are missing completely. Why is Kiyi an honorable mention when none of them are? I'd also argue Lightning Bolt Zolt should be here somewhere - if you look at the scene where Amon removes his bending, the size of his lightning bolts and fire blast are huge.

@@Nubin2000 We never actually see Azulon firebend though. I would put his father Firelord Sozin up there however. He was able to create an absolutely enormous blast of fire without Sozin’s Comet, and his heat redirection at the volcano is something we’ve never seen from anyone else. He was also a talented strategist who wiped out the Air Nomads and he lived to the age of 102.
Aside from iroh, zuko is the strongest fire bender. He learnt from iroh and mixed his style with the style used by the other element benders. He is far more versatile, even tho he can't generate lightning. He's the only one that can make green and purple flames too
