    Did any one else think "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream" the RPG?

  • @inventist

    The introduction story you told reminded me of consensus-based reality and the Technocracy from cWoD. It's nice that it can be something so... so much worse...

    The God-Machine and its angels always make me think of Planescape's Modrons (demons = rogue modrons). Totally what I imagine them being like in a modern setting.

    Intriguing, this has given me a little spark of an idea that might work well within God Machine’s world. I’ll defiantly add this to my ever growing RPG book wish list.

    And the dates in the book, they are not false, they are just the dates the book wants ^^

      In a book like this that's a perfectly appropriate caveat.

    The concept of the god-machine, in the World of darkness setting, reminds me of Clockwork AI from Iteration X in the old Technocracy.

    I think the God-Machine is the computer that was designed to find the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything, and operates like the Final Destination movies

      More like that you are just a minor cog in a massive, incomprehensibly complex machine. You can't really do anything that is outside your function.... at least not until the realization of what is behind the outer facade.
      Also I love that whole brainwashing bit about getting everyone else to show that the correct thing is what you think is wrong.... to the point you begin to think 'Am I in the wrong?' Slowly undermining your sense of assurity with the world, and that it works the way you think it does and should.

    Im actually at an impasse right now. I started with nWoD and awakening and requiem mostly but im debating on getting behind the god machine or going back and trying the classic with the wod and playing the masquerade with the new anniversery editions coming out.

  • @Onionkid99
    @Onionkid99 10 лет назад +1

    This one does sound great. For the most part, I prefer OWoD but this and Hunter: the Vigil have such great potential for regular, human characters exploring the shadows of the world of darkness.
    I very much enjoy the concept of a particularly gruesome and dark Fringe. Not that Fringe wasn't gruesome and dark at times...

  • @Samwise7RPG
    @Samwise7RPG 10 лет назад +1

    I really liked the Aspirations and I included them in the Wars sci-fi NWOD game that I'm running right now. I added those additional virtues & vices into the game too along with the original ones.

    • @Samwise7RPG
      @Samwise7RPG 10 лет назад +1

      As always I enjoyed your story time intro. I think the breaking points is an interesting change. I didn't like the Beats thing at all, it was a bit of a turnoff for me. Maybe that is something that I need to try out though before I pass judgment. I didn't like how they got rid of some of the limiting factors in character creation, like the cost of a 5th dot not being more expensive like it used to be.
      As to the setting information, it does sound rather cthulhuish meets technology and that could be very interesting indeed in a sort of Gnostic way. Great review.

    • @TheGentlemanGamer
      @TheGentlemanGamer  10 лет назад

      That Gnostic element is carried over into Demon: The Descent in a heavy way.

    I like how you structured this review. I was involved (briefly) in a game using the rules update, and the group is still discussing them - more or less favorably. Did the changes to the personality mechanics remind you of anything? (more in mood/intent than in form, of course)

    Hello Gentleman Gamer. I was just curious, have you by chance done a review of Demon the Descent or the first edition (not classic, but first edition before Chronicles of Darkness) WOD game Innocents? I know you only do games you like or think are very good, but if not that's fine. Wanted to ask just in case I had missed them and perhaps you had done them. but if not, it's cool.
    But as always, an awesome review. Enjoyed this one very much.

    I have a very conflicted relationship with chronicles of darkness on one hand I love certain parts of it, like the god machine and the Lost on the other I despise it and it's "totalist" attitude, its complete divorcement from world of darkness, this type of attitude where you either abandon all you knew and loved and embrace some... Questionable original and well written new lore (Coff Coff Requiem Coff Coff) or you can't enjoy the good parts of it, it's all or nothing, I would have preferred if they had continued to build on the old established foundations and added facultative accessory parts (for example, why would a more overarching structure and world conflict between vampires not allow for personal existential horror? Why should the old clans and lore not go well along with it?)

      Basically - The Nosferatu, Nosferati?, Nosferatu's?, However you say it, have made a machine that systematically changes a human's alliance to the Nosferatu, slowly gaining dominion based on how their machine works - The bodies of other vampires. All of my player's are from house Giovanni, so they're all working "together," so to speak. So far they don't know there's a machine that's helping the Nosferatu gain territory, they mostly think it's something in the water.
      Not Kidding.
      Two out of the 6 player's in my group have stopped drinking water in game because of this.
      I don't know how long it'll take them to figure this out.

    I will never run a WoD game. But if I did I would run a God-Machine game, drawing in what elements from the rest of the WoD I find appealing. No silly vampires! At the end of the campaign the big 'reveal' is that the God-Machine is 100% out to help, save and foster humanity. Completely and utterly benign. Nothing to 'conquer' or 'slay' or 'overcome'. The Man Behind The Curtain really is a kindly old Wizard and the characters get to click their heels and go Home. Have to make sure one of the characters was a cyborg, one a werecat, one a Revenant and one a woman with a pet... perfect for a convention game.
