D2 Mighty Ducks...2 is the story of how Gordon Bombay forgets all of the important life lessons from the first Mighty Ducks movie and has to relearn them all over again because he is basically a child.

Yo! In this movie. Julie got thrown out of the game for pushing the two Iceland players, the refs called it intent to injure. But then Sanderson from Iceland LITERALLY BROKE HIS STICK on Adam Banks’ arm, injuring him, and he got 2 minutes for it. The refs were paid off, no one can tell me different.
Also let’s not forget that in the final game against Iceland, that same player swung his stick at Adam, intentionally trying to hurt him. And once again only got 2 minutes in the penalty box. The refs were most likely paid off.
Even as a kid I thought those refs blew rocks. Even Luis pointed out how much they sucked.

We really need to talk about how Jan is lowkey a business mastermind. He brokered a deal with Hendricks to sell their apparel and in return get Bombay to coach the team. Since the team is so popular, the store makes a bunch of money selling Hendricks merchandise. Since Hans and Jan know Bombay so well, Jan knew that Bombay would lose his focus, be attracted to the glitz and the glamor of Hollywood, and that Hendricks would get pissed off. Jan brought Bombay back to the light and rewarded the team with new Ducks jerseys thus providing more merch to sell at the store. Jan is brilliant and deserves our respect.
Julie the Cat should have been playing goalie the entire tournament. Goldberg and Averman were the weak points, but Julie would not have given up 4 goals to Iceland. Just look at D3. She shut down the varsity team for 3 periods. Dumb move by Bombay.
Jonathon Hilton disagree they helped with team morale. They were like having mascots on the ice. You could tell those Iceland players were too distracted to play well because they were rolling on the ice laughing at those two jokesters

At least Averman scored a few goals, Goldberg was pretty much worthless and one of the biggest liabilities to the team

The actor who played Jessie couldn't make it because he was working on different projects and couldn't make it and heard he didn't like Kenan Thompson who played Russ much I hate movies change actors or don't mention any players from the 1st movie
@@derekknowles5805 that is why the ducks suck so much in d3...banks is gone so is jesse..2 of their 3 best overall versatile players lol..no wonder why charlie pushed the issue..who is he gonna pass to?...portman?...averman?..connie?....goldberg?...get real...you need players that can do it all like jesse and banks...the others are specialists...mendoza can speed it up dwyane can handle it russ can shoot kenny can do a trick spin away from the puck and get open but they are all limited outside of those skills....fulton can at least shoot and hit the boards if nothing else...as can guy but everyone else are limited skaters overall...you need two way hockey players like banks charlie guy fulton and jesse to succeed at that level...those kid tricks do not work vs elite talent...it takes skill to win

I think the argument can be made is the reason Bombay was on the radar for USA Hockey was because back then, hockey in the USA was limited to Minnesota and North East, so kind of makes sense for them to look at the Ducks.

It was around this time nhl started expanding more out to California more and later south and Midwest. When the first movie was made Dallas stars were still Minnesota north stars, colorado avalanche still Quebec nordiques, mighty ducks of Anaheim still Winnipeg jets. Wasnt the year d2 came out the real ducks first season in NHL after leaving winnipeg.
@@Jim-ql9fu the Ducks were an expansion team; the old Jets became the Coyotes. There was hockey outside the Northeast and Minnesota (and Michigan/Wisconsin) but it wasn’t as big a deal. I’m from Ohio and the Blue Jackets made hockey a much bigger deal than it was when I was little.

@@Sean17768 I mean the overall plot of this is a bit cribbed from the real life story of Miracle but raising the stakes of a few key games. The first Iceland game is just the game in MSG against Russia where USA gets trounced, then the gold medal game is just the second game against Russia where they eek by a win they never should have been able to. All with players that were well below the other team in skill and size.

Viewing this movie right now. When Mr Tibbles showed Gordon his contract for Hendrix sports apparel. You would think Gordon Bombay being a lawyer he would have looked over that contract with a fine tooth comb. But instead all he saw was the dollar amount and was ready to sign
Apparently there’s a reason in the novelization as to why Tibbles isn’t mad at 12:25. Prior to the last practice where Stanssen rips open Bombay’s -ahem- prior injury, Tibbles had been fired from Hendrix.

Bob Miller has heard of the Flying V. He called the championship game in D1 too. He’s also seen it too, something he kinda lies about for some reason “I’ve heard of this before but I’ve never seen it” yes you have!
While there are numerous egregious plot holes in this film, the one that strikes me most is why the hell did Trinidad and Tobago have a team that qualified? A Jamaican bobsled team in the Olympics is infinitely more believable than a group of small islands in the Caribbean getting more screen time than the Canadian or Russian team.
They did seem to go all in with Trinidad and Tobago. They're even on the DVD/VHS cover. Maybe Disney was trying for some kind of Caribbean winter sports theme.
Slotten rumor is the russian and Canadian teams all came down with fatal food poisoning after eating Hans breakfast. Which is why they were not available for such an important even like the goodwill games. ;-)

I think somebody else commented on this but, why is Trinidad and Tobago in an international hockey tournament? Why is Italy there? What about Sweden or the Czech Republic?
Probably the most misrepresented one is Iceland. They’re portrayed to be amazing, but in the International Ice Hockey Federation rankings, Iceland’s men’s team is ranked 33rd - just behind Spain and just ahead of Mexico.
It never made sense that Iceland was a this unbelievable team. Why did they not choose Russia? Norway or Finland. Anyway, still a childhood classic.

I'll never understand how Gordon making them skate after they lose 12-1 in a national tournament is him losing the "spirit of the game." You're representing you're country and if that's how you represent them then you're gonna skate
The practice wasn't him losing the spirit of the game, he lost the spirit of the game earlier when he didn't do his job or his research on the other teams. Him taking it out on the kids was just him avoiding the truth which was that he fucked up.

Even when the street hockey scene is wrapping up they show all the inner-city minority kids behind the fence looking forlorn, even one hispanic kid looks demoralized as he says "play hard :(" as the privileged kids leave them behind for better things and they are stuck in the ghetto playing street hockey to avoid getting caught up in gang violence.
12:24 I never understood this either. The guy spent the first two acts erasing the Ducks' legacy and now he's participating in Ducks chants and hanging out with a skate sharpener from Palookaville, Minnesota.
julie should have been the starting goalie straightaway. goldberg got better but was nowhere near as good as julie.

When I was a kid, this was one of the end all favorite movies-- I legit nearly always stop to watch it when it came in cable-- like “mom hold the whole day, I gotta see this!” It almost made me want to go in to hockey like them….

Haha, I love your comment about one attribute like figure skating is somehow supposed to translate into being good at something else when you said because you were tall people thought you must be good at basketball, and you were like "but I wasn't!" It's funny to me because im on the opposite side - I actually like and play basketball but im short so no one has EVER come up to me and said "Oh, you must be good at basketball." (My feelings are only a little hurt :p)
Doesn't this take place in the summer? Why did they have to attend classes? I could understand if the tournament interfered with the school year but that doesn't seem to be the case. Also I'm guessing it's implied off screen that the parents all signed permission forms, waviers, health records, etc. so the kids could be allowed to go.

Jan wasn't gunned down in a botched home invasion. Hans kicked his ass out of Minnesota for stealing his specialty breakfast dish and repeating Gordons "teach them to fly" speech. Jan felt this meant never come back again and so he told his mom that Hans didn't want to see them again and that's why they didn't go to Hans funeral

1:42 - In all fairness Jan did contact the Goodwill Committee and asked them to consider signing Bombay and the Ducks. Now why they would ever put that much faith and money into a team that has only won 4 games in their lives is a legit criticism. The Hawks and most of the other Pee Wee teams are still objectively better than the Ducks.

Another mistake during that last stop by Julie, when Gunner is skating towards her, her glove is completely white, when she "catches" the puck the interior pad is suddenly black to hide whether or not the she caught the it.

I liked these movies but can agree that Banks is the only person who really deserved to be on the team other than the goalie that was featured so little you forgot her name like me.
banks jessie russell fulton and julie are legit players and I can give charlie a pass I guess?..the rest of them yeah no way...the fact they got rid of jessie and still are a great team makes no sense..he carried them lol ...without him the team is that much weaker

When Portland pushed down the Iceland player he was kicked out of the game. In that case shouldn't enforcers be outlawed.
Toward the end of the movie it's mentioned that you returning players are from all over the state of Minnesota but are magically in the same area for Team USA recruitment
The original ducks are from different cities in Minnesota but they skate around the same city rounding up every one in the beginning
It was mentioned in the book that Tibbles did actually get fired by Hendrix (mentions this prior to their "last team practice.")

Out of all the non believable things in this movie, the worst one is still who they're going against.
Trinidad don't even know what ice is, let alone ice hockey. Germany was still 30 years ago from becoming relevant in the sport. Iceland...is a 350k soul country: U15 Team USA would beat their national team any day.

I like that they just ignore the fact that Jesse had a brother on the team, Terry, and just mysteriously is no where to be seen, not even in the stands supporting his brother.
Who funny enough was played by Jussie Smollett.
It gets worse in D3. Jessie himself disappears and it was as if he never existed. D3 does flash back shots and he is no where to be seen (even in scenes he was in). None of the other characters even mention his name (even though Charlie uses his phrase "Cake Eater" against Adam and takes on some of his personality).

The junior goodwill games was a double elimination tournament so they would have had to play 2 games because usa only gave Iceland their first loss. Also Avermans first name is Dave. The commentator called him Lester in the opening face off
