Door looks pretty good job , try moving the door forwards, even if you have to elongate the holes in the A post and see what it looks like , I'd fettle the wing to get the gap better if necessary, leaving the door alone, I'm guessing the wings are welded on. The repo doors and wings are never perfect.

Gutted to see that’s not upto standard, I’m surprised you managed to hide your disappointment to the guys who did it, I would’ve certainly had a talk to them about it and see what could’ve been done either rectify the problems or have a sweetener taken off your bill. Either way you summed it up perfectly when you said some people just don’t take pride in their work unfortunately. Dunno if you’ve got a spray shop lined up but Tony Butterworth at spraycraft in queensferry is absolutely top draw cannot fault any of his work.

Like you said most of the work is amazing and talented but it seems he ran out of time and put himself under pressure to finish the project ... as you know and can appreciate classic cars are notoriously difficult to work on especially when they are not yours it takes hours and hours of head scratching and frustration ..... shame he ran out of time you still have an amazing car mate .. great video and at some point we have been there

Spot on , ran out of time money and patience not my field of expertise but I would have sucked it up and bit the bullet couldn't let that leave the workshop. Easiest thing in the world to criticise other people's work no easy job but you have to take that on board when you take this type of work on and go the extra mile to keep your reputation.

I understand completely, very disappointing. That’s the thing with classic cars, I have been disappointed with work afew times, annoying as I never argue on price, as you say we can’t always get the time or have the skills to do everything ourselves. I won’t have my MX5 painted because I just don’t trust anyone near where I live

Most of the work looks fine, but it seems like he made the door panels fit the old door, rather than the door gap it had to go into. Welding metal onto the door sounds like the only option to make it last and fit.
I'd definitely be asking for some discount for the inconvenience of it not being done to the standards you asked for, and the fact that you, or someone else is going to have to fix it.

  • @vincentking5122

  • @frog-eye1420

Add some material to the front edge I have seen a trick where ark welding rods are used nock the flux off the rods then you can have a nice metal rod that can be bent and welded in place then dressed , plus it is the same thickness as the folded door skin

    A. If you agree its not been finished they should finish it until you're happy for whatevers already paid. B. Looks like he built and fitted the door without the front wing on... C. Car panels and sheet metal turns into a banana when welding, they need to either be tacked in place then welded on the car or locked in a custom jig. D. It looks like it's only had work done on the bottom of the door and the issues you're having are with the oem top part? Did he replace just the bottoms of the doors or the tops too? I'm a welder and I would never weld that off the car, tack it off the car, fit it, get it fitting perfectly then weld it up inside and outside then open the door and finish the rest... Welding it on the bench you have no idea what the heat distortion is doing. In this case making a jig first with the original door is the way to go. Finally it could just be the standard issue with pattern parts. Nothing ever fits. I suggest you forget about the modern auto paint shops and find yourself a panel beater, using traditional methods.

That's called piss poor workmanship, either he hasn't tried the wing on with the door to check the gap, should of just spotted that door skin on the frame and tried it on with the wing and checked the gap to the quarter as well, instead i bet he has just welded that door skin onto the door frame thinking it will be Ok. Your problem is you have a large gap at the top of the door to rear quarter and a large gap to the top of the wing. Best way to do that is cut the door skin off and weld a new one on each side. Get the price of the door skins off of him it's his mistake. Nice Motor by the way.
