Burzum, Mayhem, Immortal, Emporer, Black Funeral, Silincer, Happy Days, Uada, Darkthrone, Ulver , Horde, and Admonsih are some ones worth checking out
@@yungvofficial I love so many of these! Love that you included Ulver.
Leviathan - The Tenth Sublevel
Deathspell Omega - Paracletus
Exiled From Light - Descending Further Into Nothingness
Batushka - Litourgiya
NØNE - The Damp Chill Of Life
Anaal Nathrakh - Hell Is Empty And All The Devils Are Here (Blackened Grindcore is GOATed btw)
Sadness - Atna (That or Old Songs 2013, The Rain That Falls Alone, or Rain)
Midnight Odyssey - Funerals From The Astral Sphere
Honorable Mention: V.E.G.A. - Cocaine (I haven’t listened to it all yet, but from what I did hear, I already adore it)
Dark funeral, old man’s child, cradle of filth, Bathory, Satanic Warmaster, Destroyer 666
@@OnceyougoFlatyouneverGlobeback Good shit.
The Metal Tempest is like our younger sibling that is more hardcore and down with the music scene than we are. These bands should be sending guys like TMT free promotional items because this guy is literally preaching the gospel of metal to fight on through life. Thanks man I hope you're happy in life. Thanks for spreading the good word
This is one of the nicest comments I've seen.
The Mantle is tied with Alcest's Escailles De Lune as my favorite black metal-oriented album ever made. Such an incredible atmosphere that no other album that I've heard has IMO.
I do need to listen to more Woods of Desolation, I remember finding them pretty solid but there's a chance I'll get into them more with repeat listens.
Also I appreciate the Sadness love! My favorite Sadness record is Leave but the one you chose is really good too.
Ooo, amazing picks. I genuinely do adore atmospheric black metal picks, as evident when I put together this list. There are a ton of raw ones or more shrill ones I could include but I just am a sucker for beautiful atmosphere in music and you captured that perfectly!
Agalloch and Alcest, both great bands! I think that Saor is just as good though, particularly their album Aura, although most people don't seem to resonate with it as much as I do.
@danielrkholt3409 Saor is great too for sure!
Some of my favorites
White Ward’s Futility Report and Love Exchange Failure. I absolutely love their inclusion of saxophone and jazz sections.
Panopticon’s The Rime of Memory especially the track Winter’s Ghost. I love the folk elements and atmosphere.
Gaerea’s Mirage. I don’t really know why I like this one.
I absolutely adored False Light by White Ward so I will definitely have to check that out! And love the Panopticon pick. I'll have to check out the third!
I am more of a death metal dude
That list'll come, too!!!!!!! Nothing wrong with that. :] will likely be longer too!!!!!!! :D
7:54 Toad has entered the chat. 🤣
My black metal taste is pretty basic, ITNE by Emperor is what got me into it, but I would say that some of my favorite BM albums currently are Mirage by Gaerea and Rashomon by Ibaraki.
Hey there's nothing wrong with the classics! That's the very reason they aren't here: They're obvious because they ARE so good!
@@TheMetalTempestYT Lol. Well said!
Pantopticon's Autumn Eternal is one I keep going back to. Vargrav's Reign in Supreme Darkness is awesome too.
I remember when Dark Medieval Times came out. I purchased it on CD because I didn't have a record player. The main reason I got it was because I liked the cover art. Glad I got it. I still have it somewhere. I end up getting a number of the early black metal albums. That said, I have way too many favorite albums.
I don’t care what the haters and elitists have to say about this, but my favorite at least black metal-adjacent record of all time is new Bermuda by Deafheaven. Not only is it one of my favourite metal albums of all time, it’s one of my favourite album ever!
You should listen to the band Black Funeral, or at least there album Vukolak. Another good band is Immortal. Love the shirt dude.
Black Funeral is great! And Immortal's such a classic.
I had that song stuck in my head the last couple days it left this morning ...
Now its back lmaooo good video
I'm glad I'm not the only one LOL. thank you
"Yeah, I like that one a lot, why did you tell them that we have a platinum plaque though?
I don't know, it's like a metaphor, also, it sounds cool
Did you have to, like, did you have to low-key lie to everybody to get that message across?"
You should make a video on Ronalds new song
Ronnie has been quiet ever since Ronald dropped that banger!🔥🔥
Guessing you're not a fan of pure old school black metal
I very much am! Like I said at the start I didn't include them because they're so obviously amazing albums!
In Lingua Mortua - Bellowing Sea-Racked By Tempest
Satyricon - Nemesis Divina
Silencer - Death Pierce Me
Summoning - Stronghold
my faves 4 sure
Man, my favorite Black Metal albums? Man that's so hard. There's so many good stuff. My 2 most favourite genres are Black Metal and Death Metal. I think I can definitely say I'm drawn most towards the stuff that's dark, twisted, demented and so on. In sound, topics and such. The raw, occult, hateful and whatever else can probably fit in those. Silencer, Bethlehem are 2 bands I can think of, but there's plenty more. Anaal Nathrakh is pretty good too. Very chaotic, aggressive, and such. Also misanthropic and nihilistic. Which I also like. But I guess to give some idea, I might just name some albums and songs that come to my mind. So here they are:
Bethlehem - Dictius Te Necare & Bethlehem (self-titled album)
Silencer - Death Pierce Me
Peste Noire - La sanie des siècles - Panégyrique de la dégénérescence (is not on Spotify but can be found on YT, the vocals are amazing. Especially on Dueil Angoisseus)
Horna - Kunnia herralle kuninkaalle (song)
These are some examples. Not necessarily my top favorites, but some definitely make it into that list. These are albums (and 1 song) that I think are just really good.
Edit: almost forgot the self-titled album from a band called Pest. I quite like that album too.
If goes for my favorite Black Metal Albums here is my list:
Satyricon - Dark Medieval Times (because it was my first truly Black Metal album and band I liked to listen to)
Limbonic Art - In Abraham Dementia (one of my favorite Symptoms Black Metal albums that isn't so corny like Dimmu Borgir stuff)
Anorexia Nervosa - Mother Anorexia (another great Symphonic Black Metal record but I chose them because Anorexia Nervosa was my favorite French band)
Moonsorrow - Voimasta Ja Kunniasta (I absolutely adore this record and band ,it is so melodic and catchy with so many folk stuff in it that i just cant but headbang every time i hear Aurinko Ja Kuu, this record proves that Black Metal can be FUN)
Kroda - Cry to me, River.../Поплач мені, річко... (my favorite Record of Ukrainian Pagan Black Metal band that have a lot of folk influences in it but in more epic way)
Drudkh - Autumn Aurora (my favorite album from Atmospheric Black Metal genera. Worth tocheck out if you love sounds of nature implemented to songs like sound of rain, singing of birds or wind blowing through trees deep in the forest)
Sacrilegium - Wicher (Absolute classic from Polish Pagan Black Metal scene. Wicher means Gale in Polish and sound of this album is indeed a Gale of pure Pagan Darkness)
Arkona - Lunaris (no, not Russian Аркона, thats a Folk Metal band. Im talking about one of the first Polish Black Metal bands. Lunaris is their 5th album, but its my favorite because of it's beautiful atmosphere and lurics that brings subject like loosing faith, melancholy, death and burial of your old self.)
Ninkharsag - The Dread March of Solemn Gods (one of the most promising modern Melodic Black Metal bands that comes from UK and with this album, tgey fucking rules and gives high hopes for the future)
Impaled Nazarene - Ugra Karma (this album is just pure hatered and aggression ive never heard before in my life until i stepped upon this record)
Barathrum - Legions of Perkele (Very groovy Black Doom record that i like to listen from time to time)
Summoning - Let Mortal Heroes Sing Your Fame (i love all Summoning albums, and surprisingly for a long time I was considering this album the worst one from all, but after listening to it multiple times it grew on me and became one of my favorites)
Bathory - The Return... (this is the album that I love till this day because it frighten me at first, intro and outro to this album gives me chills every time I hear it. Those sounds...they reminds me of upcoming evil that comes closer with every step, comming.....to take your soul)
Satanic Warmaster - Aamongandr (a first I wanted put here Streangth and Honor, but I like only Raging Winter from that record, but on Aamongandr every dong is a hit for me)
Heretoir - Heretoir (this german band is my favorite if goes to stuff that deals with Depression, suicide and melancholy. I don't care what Encyclopedia Metallum says, this is DSBM for me not a Post-Black)
Carpathian Forest - Strange Old Brew (my favorite album full of sado-maso, leathers and Satan)
Absu - Apzu (probably only American Black Metal band I like and this album)
Great video! Really interested in a lot of these albums and some of them, I’ll definitely be giving a chance. Though, I’m surprised you don’t have Olhava’s Frozen Bloom on this list given how highly you praised it in your 2021 album video. Admittedly, that album may be far from the most innovative, complex, or forward thinking, but good god, I love it so much. But other than that, I loved this video just like all your other content. Hope life is treating you well! 👍
SAOR MENTIONED OOOUGH love Soar, always makes me tear up, probably because I'm Scottish. Also sorry to be THAT guy but its pronounced "sooer", and you roll the r. It's the gaelic word for "to be free"
To make up for that, here's some of my fav black metal records
Darkthrone - Panzerfaust
Ulver - Bergtatt
Saor - Aura
Hellripper - Warlocks Grim & Withered Hags
Burzum - Filosofem
None - Damp Chill of Life
Xasthur - Defective Epitaph
Immortal - Pure Holocaust
Mutiilation - Vampires of Black Imperial Blood
Këkht Aräkh - Pale Swordsman
Spectral Wound - A Diabolic Thirst
Heres my top five bm albums (not in order):
Windir - Arntor (this actually my favorite bm album of all time)
Sadness - i want to be there (black metal fir emo kids and i mean that in the bestvway)
Panopticon - thecrime of memory (favorite album of 2023)
Liturgy - HAQQ (Underated and overhated)
Holyarrow - defender of the fatherland (peak epic black metal)
Dear God you have some killer picks here and multiple of these projects could've easily been on my list. I agree wholeheartedly with Liturgy being overhated--that's a whole topic in its own right and reeks of weird biases. And fully agree with the Sadness explanation haha. Panopticon is a fantastic project, too! You killed it with this one.
I don’t even like black metal that much, yet I still listen to you talk.
Aw, thank you. I appreciate it!
I’d say since I’m particular when it comes to black metal, my personal go to band for about 2 years is BiS (Benighted in Sodom). I do recommend Reverse Baptism, Disappear Here, Death in Space, and In Hora Maledictus - Part I. All albums can be found on bandcamp.
Other mentions: Fort Lauderdale, Where Waits the Greatest of All Sacrifices EP, Hybrid Parasite Evangelistica, and Plateau: The Harrowing.
Ooo, these are some fantastic suggestions because I can say I haven't heard of these! I'll definitely check them out, thank you! Particular ain't a bad thing because you know what you're looking for and that's quality in your metal!
Saor Caladan brood Uada Liturgy Ulver deafheaven panopticon agalloch white ward bathory emperor enslaved alcest summoning nechochwen windir anaal nathrakh wolves in the throne room dimmu borgir sodom oranssi pazuzu and oceans blut aus nord botanist borknagar equilibrium goatwhore ihsahn kvelertak krallice dodheimsgard paysage dhiver sepultura sigh toxic holocaust venom watain cradle of filth blackbraid gorgoroth Arcturus falkenbach also BLACK METAL🎶🎵🪕🎷
Love these picks.
sadness is so good!!!!
Crazy seeing you in a Burzum shirt
BURZUM for life🤘
I think most if not all BM musicians started as teens
Im more into the Atmospheric/Melodic side of things
The mantle - Agalloch
Litourgiya - Batushka
III: Trauma - Harakiri for the sky
Sunbather - Deafheaven
Throne of the Lunar Soul - Valdrin (Definitely recommend this one, my favorite album from last year)
Bergtatt - Ulver
Can’t recommend Departure Chandelier more. They’ve been my favorite ever since I discovered Antichrist Rise To Power while surfing my recommend on Spotify lol. Their newest release Satans Soldier of Fortune is also incredible. DC is the perfect blend of raw / atmospheric BM, and also brings a strange concept to the table with the whole napoleonic black metal thing. They also tap into French history a bit, which is interesting to say the least. Honorable mention to WOE BATHER, Burzum, Ancst, Glempt,
Ifernach, Gnaw Their Tongues, and Kanonenfieber.
Woods of Desolation absolutely is one of my favorites in Black Metal. All of their work is sooooooo good. My favorite of theirs is As the Stars.

Dissection-Storm of the Lights Bane
Alcest-Ecailles De Lune
Deathspell Omega-Paracletus

holy goddamn shit. i love Sadness so much. there is something i love about every single album. i am so upset i wont be able to go to the projects first concert in chicago at the end of the month
Wrath of Gaia by Wolven Ancestry should be on here
Great list, i had the exact same experience discovering agalloch, also im curious to know if you like any inquisition albums
I do! I can't say I'm too terribly familiar with the project but I definitely have come across it
thanks. This is partly why I follow this channel. I don't pay a lot of attention to subgenres so I don't quite know who or what to look for when trying to find new stuff or stuff I've missed. I'll have to come back to this
Absolutely! Love suggesting new stuff and turning people onto new music. Cheers
I personally can’t stand Black Metal, and even if i did, i still wouldn’t listen to it for religious reasons.
Do you own a copy of Dead as Dreams? Very valuable record, especially on vinyl.
