I was on a roadtrip a year ago. And that coil snapped when i opened the trunk on my 2nd stop at some rest area. I had no clue what was happening inside the lock. So I just manage to get a tie to help the trunk stay closed and cintinued the trip. When i arrived in my destination the had been so loose but there wasnt much movement of the trunk as it is SO heavy. Found a local mechanic. And he was so familiar with that issue. The Bait was broken. He just cut the bait and make a new bait from the original coil. He did that pretty fast and it really safe my Journey :)
Metal doesn’t like to be stretched in opposing ways, it becomes brittle and snaps. I would have to pull the last coil straight and then make a hook, it would make it weak
Hey man, nice job. Do you happen to know how long is the spring in mm? I think I have the same issue on my e39 and I wanted to get the spring before I take it apart so I can avoid driving with an unlocked boot?
Just use the same spring and bend where it broke so it looks the same. I searched all over the internet for the spring just to realise i could do that lol
@@telefeno1 yeah...still haven't got around it. it's just that it might be a bit tired from all these years, maybe i'll get a new one of around the same length and cut it if necessary, thanks for the reply

Great video, love e38. But i wonder, coudnt you just stretch and made another hook on old spring that broke ? Seems like easiest and fastest option.

Great video, MUCH APPRECIATED indeed. Now I know what to do/look for if my trunk latch breaks.
Awesome!!! Glad to be of service!
Thankyou for this! much appreciated!
Glad you found it helpful! 🙏🏽
Can I get an idea.. Get the trunk up without raising it with my hand?
Great job man. :) If my trunk broke, it will be helpful. :)
