    Watching this makes me want a tractor that much more Phil. The more work you do now, the less work you have to do when you plant. 🚜

      Very true. The tractor is essential. When you get one, you'll be wondering why you waited so long!

    Hi Phil! Looks like you have a good planting method going on. Getting better each season. I gotta get me a subsoiler! It’s an inexpensive implements with plenty of uses around the farm. Thanks for sharing!

      @@mikemattox1976 yes, but do it the season before so the ground has time to settle and you don't have huge underground air gaps.

    Looking good!
    One tip that might help instead of painting.. we put a wooden 2x2 on the front of tractor with string and weight on the end. The weight hangs down off the end of pole and we follow the first line of planting or ditch like your ripping. The center of pole is six feet of a twelve foot pole. No matter which way you drive the led is exactly center of previous row.
    We use this for our tabaco, hemp and Christmas tree rows.
    Have a great Christmas!!

      thanks for the tip. I had tried something similar before, but don't recall why I got away from it. I think it just wasn't as precise as I would have liked, but that's probably due to operator error, not the fault of the method.

    Hi, I'm wondering does your PTO make a slight "knocking" sound when running? I have a L3301 with 350 hrs, never used or started pto before, yesterday was 1st time & it seems to sound like a gear clanging up near the clutch pedal..wondering if this is normal in the Lseries ?

    Her subsoiler was raking the ground. A 2” adjustment would have stopped her tractor from bogging down.

    • @WoodsTreeFarm
      @WoodsTreeFarm  3 года назад

      thanks for the feedback. I'll give it another look next time I run it. While it might make a difference sometimes, our ground is just really compacted and dense. the subsoiler stops my 50hp tractor sometimes.

    Were you in low range? That hydro sounds ‘whiny’... I’m torn between a 3901, a 4701, and going with a Massey 18m series. I have a Red Boss 2-seat transplanter with a 4” shoe so it’s quite a bit more weight and steel to pull.
    Also, I wonder if you had chemically mowed those strips ahead of putting the row in - would the sod break up easier and more cleanly? I’ll try that next spring.
    Thanks for sharing your experiences!

    • @WoodsTreeFarm
      @WoodsTreeFarm  4 года назад +1

      We started in Mid range but that was just for the first little bit. Most of what what was filmed here was in Low. I don't think the transplanter will have any trouble behind this tractor (we're going to find out in a few weeks. stay tuned!). There's a lot of resistance when the subsoiler tries to dig down 15-18". We did spray the rows, but they hadn't been completely killed off when we subsoiled. Don't know if it would have made much difference in this case.

      @@WoodsTreeFarm I’ve now test drove both the 3901, 4701, and the 3560. The 3901 turns like a battleship so there’s no way I’ll take that one. And the other two turned better but nothing like the Massey 1835/1840. I’m going to rent a 1735 to see if it’ll handle that 4” shoe. Kubota is nice, but those Masseys are real sweet too! Decisions, decisions!

    i see on the Video a box Blade BB2560 i think like mine , i am using it with the scarifier all way down and the box tilted forward so the back not touching the ground in order to cler all the root and rock on an old field to seed grass eventually. My L2501 has a hard time pulling it in 4WD low spped and full throttles. i tought at some time getting a subsoiler to do the job. What dou you think can i finish my job the way i started as he is getting easier as the ground and chunk of grass break apart or is it really worth to buy a sub soiler that i would have no use of it after being done ?. also how would you compare both pulling force one versus the other.?

    • @WoodsTreeFarm
      @WoodsTreeFarm  4 года назад +1

      We don't have much rock to deal with, so it would be hard to make a recommendation for you. Our soil is compacted, dense clay and the subsoiler does create a lot of resistance when it digs down 18+ inches, regularly bringing the tractor to a complete stop. We frequently have to do multiple passes to get it as deep as we'd like it. You might look into renting a power rake as its better suited for what you're trying to accomplish. Once you are “on line” for the row, engaging the diff lock (along with 4wd of course) will help. Also, if your rear tires are not already filled, that will help your traction issues too.

    • @WoodsTreeFarm
      @WoodsTreeFarm  4 года назад +1

      My tires are filled, and 4wd was on. I've tried diff lock before and it doesn't seem to make much difference. The clay is just real tough to pull through. We have a bigger/heavier tractor and even though its 2wd it pulls the subsoiler better, but this tractor is easier for my wife to operate.
