  • Trying Out a Middle Buster - Can a Kubota BX1800 Pull It?
    In this video we try using a County Line middle buster to prep the ground for planting our Christmas trees. First we tried it on the Kabota BX 1800 and then we use it on the John Deere 2038R

      I have half of my 500 trees planted and I just went and got a subsoiler this afternoon that I’m going to use planting the other half. The videos are just delayed three or four days
      What do you pull the subsoiler with? I think my tractor is going to handle it fine but you never know

    I plow with my MB & 25hp compact tractor. I get the soil to roll all the way over on each side then I disc the soil.
    Works great for food plots. Trick is to set the blade so the wings push the soil over like a plow blade would do, that means not to deep. Deep is bad for plowing good for taters. Shallow & blade set at a forward angle & you have turned the rolls over instead of the soil falling back in the groove.

    You might could have taken the foot off the plow and achieved about the same results as a sub soiler. That’s pretty much what Phil uses, his just has a different cutting edge on the end instead of the plow. Looks like really nice soil there!

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  3 года назад +1

      Yeah, that might have worked.
      It’s basically just a big ripper shank

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  3 года назад

      I figured the subsoiler was taller and heavier built. I just left tractor supply and they are basically identical
      You would think that the middle buster would be more expensive because of the wedge on it, but the subsoiler cost more

    • @khtractors
      @khtractors 3 года назад

      @@RockhillfarmYT I knew they looked very similar. It is odd the subsoiler would cost more.

    True "garden tractors" aren't really offered by any brands now. The little 4x4 sub-compacts are the closest thing. Pretty small for a lot of dirt work, but ag tires would have made a big difference.

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  3 года назад

      His tractor seems kind of like a garden tractor but I’ve been calling to subcompact because it’s got a PTO and a 3 Point hitch
      That middle Buster is only rated for tractors 30 hp and under, so basically just subcompacts

    • @TheMindfulHomestead
      @TheMindfulHomestead 3 года назад

      They are great little implements, but you hit the nail on the head. With working 4wd, bar or r4 tires, and some weights on the front, the little Kubota would have done much better.
      Still, not quite the right tool for this job. Fun to watch though!

      What would you call the Deere x700 series if not a true garden tractor?
      The place of the garden tractor has eroded because zero turns mow better and subcompacts do heavy work better, but they still exist.

    • @volvoben2
      @volvoben2 3 года назад

      @@RockhillfarmYT The BX series is squarely in the "subcompact" category, you're correct in your terminology!

    Turf tires and no 4WD.
    I have a BX2680 and used my sub-soiler with a plow blade on it to dig an irrigation ditch last year, worked great. You gotta have 4WD for it to work though, even with the R4 tires on my BX.
    Using a middle buster for your application was the wrong tool for the job in the first place, should have gotten a sub-soiler which has a much longer shank. Even with that if you go slow enough you'll wad up all the soil under the 3 point assembly...You really should be running in high range and about medium speed to use these things to keep the soil to the sides of the plow. If you go to slow you'll end up having the soil building up issue.

    My 05 1830 just ripped through rocky clay soil no problem, this guy driving doesn't know what he's doing. The 1800's series is very small but you can get alot of work out of them if you work smart.

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  3 года назад

      I mentioned a couple of things in the video that are giving it problems
      1st his 4 wheel drive wasn’t working at the time. 2nd he has turf tires. 3rd he doesn’t have any Weight added.
      All of that combined to not getting any traction

    • @hazleborn
      @hazleborn 3 года назад +1

      @@RockhillfarmYT yeah I saw. The four wheel drive is key, mine works but I haven't added any weight and although I run turf tires I haven't filled them yet. I've ripped out rotten ledge, two inch roots, torn through hard packed soil, but I would just sit and spin all day long without four wheel.

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  3 года назад

      I find wheel weights help a lot on my tractor.
      My friend that brought his kubota over had just recently bought it and hasn’t done a whole lot with it yet.
      I just wanted to try it out because I love these compact tractor tractors

    • @hazleborn

      @@RockhillfarmYT totally. Until he gets that 4x4 up and running it's just a lawn mower. Had mine for a week now, first weekend the main to the steering started leaking so I had to pull apart half the tractor then drive everywhere to find a special end piece. Didn't find it so I parts something together, then the key switch went, causing the auto shut off to trigger at idle and force me to jump the salenoid lucky Amazon was fast and I had it in a couple days. I got this one for a back yard patio in the woods, I have 3" to spare for clearance to the yard. When jobs done my upgrades will be
      1# 2"spacers for the rear
      2# fill the tires and get a spare filled set of AG's
      3# wheel weights
      4# rear weight
