I'm sure this might be the first tear down video of the GB300 on RUclips right now 😄. Thanks so much for doing this fam. I'm sure we'll see some mods for this soon. I shared this to my Twitter/X account to hopefully gets some more eyes on this.
The 'outer display', i.e. the plastic film over the actual display - visible from 10:00 - is extremely(!) susceptible to scratches! There is practically no way to remove dust and fingerprints from it without scratching the layer over the screen. 😞 I assume it is ultra-cheap plastic, which is not surprising considering the price. 🙂
I still find this handheld very interesting. Does it seem like the bit below the gamepad and buttons extends down too far, though? I do love how slim it is and the ergonomics of the L & R buttons! EDIT: After the disassembly, I can see that it extends down so far to house the battery...
That button membrane situation is crazy. I wonder if you could use other membranes for the buttons. Maybe even separating and gluing the face buttons to the membrane
I don't think I've seen a membrane set connected like this in any other device. That should work. I have some extra RG350M membranes. I'll probably give it a try. Maybe some of that command strip double-sided adhesive for the buttons. Sakura RetroModding used to sell his custom buttons on Etsy with them. I hope it'll work well enough. It would be much more comfortable to have the buttons separated.
From the outside it doesn’t feel too bad. Definitely better than the old famiclones that are switched on people from the cover pic from shady sellers on AliExpress. Have you noticed that? It’ll be a R36S or 35XX in the photo. Price is too low to be true. You click it, and it immediately changes to that basic 500-in-1 Famiclone. It all started there for me 😂
Nice work sir! I curious to see how your taping goes for the dpad. Also, looking at the back buttons, it appears they are mouse clickers on rhe board, i wonder if there's any improvement to feel if you added tiny strip of 3M foam tape to the contact point on the back panel (i.e. the back of the plastic cantilevered "button" cut out)? Noticed at the 7:26 mark, that you can still kinda read the chip name they tried to sand off - which I never understand why they do that? anti-clone-cloning safety maybe? to keep their other chinese competitors from copying it I guess. Thanks again for the video! Keep it up
They always do this on every single console/handheld they ship. It's the same HCSEMI B210 as in SF2000 this time, they're checking the specific revision in the software
Thanks! Great suggestion about the buttons with the 3M foam tape. It'll probably make them a lot quieter. I'm going to give it a try. Thanks for watching the video!
I almost forgot how the generic black joycon stick look in a R36S lol, I installed some blue ones in my purple one. Waiting on a orange one to get here so I can put some red ones in there
This is the teardown i was looking for! thanks for it! sadly the main CPU is sanded... i was looking for a way to see if is Miyoo CFW compatible as i commented you in the previous video!
I found this tear down very interesting. For something so cheap, I'm surprised that it actually looks designed instead of thrown together. It's a nice little handheld. It's strange to me that they used different emulator load outs for the GB300 vs the SF2000. This one has PC Engine while the 2K had MAME, probably NeoGeo. The arcade games probably take up a ton of space and ditching them for smaller PC Engine titles is likely what allowed the manufacturer to drop down from a 16GB TF card in the SF2K to 8GB in this one. Money saved! It'd been cool if they'd had instead aggressively pruned the cruft from the other systems and found a way to put some of the better NeoGeo titles ("Neo Turf Masters" FTW!) on this 8GB card along with the PC Engine games.
Man, I love your comments! If you wouldn't mind, I'd like to hear which other games you recommend on Turbo Graphx 16. I am working on building a nice (relatively small) rom list of some of the most recommended games for each system. I'm suffering from choice paralysis and I don't know what to play. I am totally lost on Turbo Graphx 16 because I never had a chance to play when I was younger. I definitely need to try that Die Hard you mentioned! Thanks again for the time you've taken to participate in the stuff I'm sharing. When you leave a comment, it's clear you actually took the time to watch. I really appreciate it. Edit* I should be calling it PC Engine, right? 🤦♂️
@@OGTechNick - I'm happy that my comments are worth reading. I had a reply partly completed yesterday then I thought, "Ya know, I should at least try more of the TG16 library before I reply to Nick". The thing is; I didn't own one as a kid (way too expensive) nor even now (way too expensive and rare in the US). And even if I had owned one back in the day, most of the good stuff stayed in Japan. This is why emulators for phones and cheap emulation consoles like the GB300 are so important. People say that emulation is "preservation, not piracy". While that's laughable when talking about something like Switch emulation, I think they have a point when talking about emulating things like TG16, or Genesis, or DOS, or... Some TG16 games in no particular order: /// Sega Arcade Ports - This console has a few Sega arcade ports including "Outrun", "Space Harrier", "Afterburner", and possibly others. Honestly; I think TG16's "Outrun" is one of the best pre-Saturn Outruns. It's better than the Genesis version, in my opinion. I'm not sure how they managed that, but, eh. I never liked "Space Harrier" that much on any platform. It reminds me of the Seinfeld joke about Grape Nuts cereal. There's no space, and there's no harrier, so why is it called "Space Harrier"? Screenshots make it look beautiful, if that's a series you like. It's the same deal with "Afterburner". I like it a bit more because of the more grounded presentation and it looks great and plays faithfully on the TG16, but I just don't care for rail shooters that much. /// "TV Sports Football" - It's a primitive unlicensed gridiron football game so why is it on this list? A review I watched talked about how slow the game played and the weird passing mechanics, etc, and I agree with it. It's not an especially good simulation of real life football. However, playing it strongly puts me in mind of electric football. You know, with the figurines and the buzzy field that makes the figurines move. I'm sure that wasn't their intent, but, that's the vibes it gives me and I like those vibes. The presentation is due some praise. Developer Cinemaware called their sports games "TV Sports" - they also had baseball, basketball, and hockey - because they were some of the first to try to replicate a TV broadcast. Desktop computer versions, according to a Google image search, even had fake advertising sponsors, which was cut out of the TG16's ports. All of the TV Sports games on the system are pleasant. I'm pretty terrible at them, but, they're fun in an exhibition game while killing some time waiting sort of way. /// "Military Madness" - An overly simplified analogy is "Advance Wars" but ten years older and set on the moon. It's a neat top down turn based military tactics game with a story and reasonably good graphics. /// "Galaga '90" - I love Galaga. The Foodland store near me had an original Galaga arcade cabinet well into the early '00s. I put a lot of quarters into that machine growing up. Anyways, "Galaga '90" on TG16 is OG "Galaga" with vastly updated graphics and a few tweaks to gameplay. The fundamentals are the same and it plays great. It's probably my favorite version of "Galaga" now. /// "Raiden" - Fancy "Galaga"? I like the series and I like this port. /// "Dragon's Curse" - It's a platformer with excellent graphics and tight controls. I used a sword to smite a dragon playing boss music, turned into an ersatz Digimon, and ended up visiting a general store ran by a pig. That's as far as I've gotten. /// "Victory Run" - The best way to describe it is "Outrun" with parts degradation. /// "Bomberman" series - The graphics are primitive, even by TG16 standards, but they play great. If you like the series on other systems then you'll probably like these games, I think. /// "Die Hard" - I've mentioned it elsewhere; but, it's pretty fun. It's Japanese only, but, an English translation now exists. /// "City Hunter" - I haven't actually played this yet. "City Hunter" is an anime about a private investigator. This game was a Japanese exclusive; but, I found an English translated ROM and when I've got a couple of hours to commit I'm going to try it. It should be excellent. Hopefully. I'm an American, so to paraphrase a Billy Joel song, it's still TurboGrafx to me. It's the same deal with Genesis vs. Mega Drive or NES vs. Famicom. I'll use their Japanese market name(s) sometimes on the Internet if it seems more applicable; but, mostly I stick to the names I grew up knowing them as. However, if someone else prefers using a different name then I'm not going to give them grief over it. A rose by any other name is just as prickly. Or something like that.
Hi, thanks, compliments for the video, I have the same console where the charging system is damaged (a fast charger was connected by mistake, which is something you shouldn't do), the console It works great but now it only charges when turned off.Let me know and thanks!
Would it be possible to demonstrate a ROM on this? I ordered this a few days ago and because of your first review i saw you can download your own games. I did see they had pokemon but i wanted to make sure that since it can download ROMS that i could download the real one onto it. Thank you in advance! Love the videos
Thanks for the comment. I will try my best to make a video showing how to add games. I have yet to add any to this device myself, but I will attempt it soon and share my results with you guys. Good recommendation.

From what I hear, actually slightly better. Supposedly, GBA works better but I’m not sure which other systems do. The SF2000 has a much better screen though.
He! Good video. I have same console. May my problem is 2 days after wont work after install new roms on microsd. And Wont Boot after. A try another card with backup origine and wont boot. Wtf. I check partition is very weird. 4 mb No formated , 7,56GB is partition have os and roms and another partition 60mb no formated. Very weird this card. Do yo have a entire backup of your micro SD CARD? That os ressemble of sf2000 may not work with this. Thank you very much and take care.
it is amazing how cheaply this is done, almost like art.
The sacred Chinese art of budget retro handhelds 😂

looking forward to the followup video where you attempt to fix the dpad false diagonals

the build quality looks decent, and i have only seen that type of membrane on the cheapest famiclone handhelds but it was good enough for the price
