- Learn about the life of civil rights activist Rosa Parks- her work with the NAACP, bus boycotts, and her lifelong fight against racial inequality.
--
Throughout her life, Rosa Parks repeatedly challenged racial violence and the prejudiced systems protecting its perpetrators. Her refusal to move to the back of a segregated bus ignited a boycott that lasted 381 days and helped transform civil rights activism into a national movement. But this work came at an enormous risk- and a personal price. Riché D. Richardson details the life of Rosa Parks.

great
Powerhouse truest relevant 💯💥💯💯
Good quote
She was saying that with Marxist ideology
I like how they finally mentioned her livelihood. She worked as a seamstress to help make ends meet and didn't magically have means out of thin air as most biographies or videos about historically important people who struggled often neglect-why do they do that? Does having a job take away a sort of legendary status? I also liked how they honestly said her political activism made it hard for her to get a job after getting arrested. It's a real story that happens to many who fight the system to this day!
@Brownskikuca Garlic Bread There are definitely some people who do in places that need such fighters. But yeah, most present day social justice warriors in America are a parody of real reformers.
Unfortunately people losing their jobs over their political beliefs still happens.
@PK- Fire How so?
@PK- Fire Ivory coast and Ghana still practice slavery?
@PK- Fire You say that as if slavery is a norm, though an unacceptable one, in these places. Is it that widely spread there to the extent of you attributing the entire country to these claims?
_"People always say that I didn't give up my seat because I was tired, but that isn't true... No, the only tired I was, was tired of giving in."_
*~ Rosa Parks*
Rosa Parks you shall not be ever Forgotten.
Rosa parks don't give up the seat cuz you have a rights to make us gives a freedom and courageous about the bus from Cleveland avenue and somewhere else to exchange the political party and segregation breaking down for at this institution. If she did that it would be easier way. But I love the inspiration lifetime of Rosa parks bringing up the powerhouse to those who having a hard time to having fight for justice.
Sorry, it's still unforgivable that I was told the Rosa Parks story as gospel truth in school as a child. You people actively lied, you are lying now. You cannot be trusted and will never be trusted so long as anyone is still alive that remembers you are liars. You deserved Donald Trump, you deserve Vladimir Putin and you deserve whatever else is going to happen. Because nobody can trust you nothing good can ever happen.

The animation was very impressive
Oluwaseyin Ayodele yeah it looks like something out of a 50s thriller.
And dark
the music too, it represents that period of time precisely.
The animator is a proper artist !
Very aesthetic
Our college has a quote from Rosa Parks on the wall. It just says "Nah".
That's wonderful
Mood
her most iconic quote, in my opinion. very impactful.
beautiful
Noice....
We should celebrate her, but more or in fact something at all, should be told about the lives of Claudette Colvin, Viola Desmond, Elizabeth Jennings Graham, Mary Louise Smith, Aurelia Browder, Private First Class Sarah Louise Keys, and many more.
Did you actually watch the video? She worked for civil rights for our people. That was not inspired by a 15 years. She worked with the NAACP for many years!!!!!!!! She established a school. She was an activist!
Man: Hey are you gonna move to the back of the bus?
Rosa: *No, I don't think I will*
“They planned a 24-hour bus boycott. It lasted 318 days.”
This is just one example of how people already want freedom, and have little to lose, only need a spark to create a bonfire of liberation and organization. Sometimes humanity has a good side after all.
errr not to be a party pooper but it was 381 days which is a very significant difference since I realised it lasted for more than a year.
I think she said 381
Nonetheless totally agree
Did Martin Luther King participate that boycott as well?

@@SVASH-hz5ji Yes, he was one of the major leaders; it was the movement that initially brought him widespread recognition.
*Damn it TED stop spoiling me with your animations !!!*
Never
@TED-Ed Bruh
TED-Ed lmao best response
That's good
Thank god for the people who work within their actual communities and don't stay silent.
"Get off the bus"
"lol no"
it was more like, "get off of the seat which, by societal standards and prejudice, is mine and you have no right to sit in it. your seat is at the back where you can watch and hear us whites indiscreetly murmur racial slurs specifically directed at your presence." 😂😂😂

“ Knowing what must be done does away with fear”
Damn, this is hitting me different. What a masterpiece.
The silhouettes of the clan, followed by the window turning into a burning cross was a creative and disturbing bit of animation. Powerful!
Righteousness thanks for supporting where there's a way there a will

I'm glad to finally see a more accurate portrayal of her life. We often see a summed up, short event making her seem frail when in reality she had been working hard throughout her entire life. It's sad that it's often overlooked how many other amazing things she did.
I'm thankful to have been a part of this project and so agree with you. Even so, there's so much more that our short time did not allow us to cover. Really, the challenge is to continue to study her. I highly recommend the brilliant political biography written by the historian Jeanne Theoharris, along with the several books published by Rosa Parks.
Oh I just have the Rosa parks bag tho
Thanks for showing true emotions towards R🤔S@ P@RkS
The animation and transitions in this video are amazing, props to Eido!
Thank you Skookum! I'll pass along your compliment to the team.
I came to know about her from one of my school lessons "Rosa Parks Sat Still" .
who ever was apart of this video and its animation deserves a MASSIVE raise
"I wanna sit there."
"Uno reverse."
Why wasn’t Claudette Colvin mentioned? She was the first one to actually say no and what Rosa did was planned ahead of time, it was a staged incident. I’m not taking away from what Rosa did, but she wasn’t a mere victim, she planned it. Claudette was the inspiration for what Rosa later did
Hunter Sinclair Because Claudette was a 15 year old pregnant teenager. Sadly she never gets recognition. :(
She walked so rosa can run
@Christian Tompkins This is a video specifically talking about the bus incident and what it changed. It's a logical place to name her 'predecessor'. When I watch a video about Apollo 11 I damn well expect them to acknowledge it wasn't the first rocket ever built, too.
The Browder v. Gayle case that ended the boycott would have been the most ideal context in which to mention her, because she was not the only person who resisted the system prior to Rosa Parks, but there were 3 others. The long history of people who had resisted the discrimination on buses in Montgomery also included Jo Ann Robinson, who was a major architect of the boycott. We might have considered Pauli Murray, or Ida B. Wells. With more time, there are so many illustrations that we might have explored, who paved the way to Rosa Parks. The Rosa Parks Children's Museum in Montgomery does an excellent job of spotlighting aspects of this longer history, alongside the tour in the main museum. The scripts we worked from were much longer and included more information in the beginning, but there's only so much storytelling that can be mentioned in such a short production. It's really an invitation to dig deeper. The father of the civil rights movement, E.D. Nixon, is often forgotten or sidelined in a lot of the dialogues on civil rights history, and doesn't receive a lot of emphasis here. But the main goal was to take up the life and story of Rosa Parks.
Love how they hearted almost every other comment. But when someone notices they have a massive glaring omission. They ignore that comment.
I always love the way you are able to take complex stories and with illustrations bring them to life while making it educational. Keep up the great work!
Me too
Man, rosa parks was frickin awesome. She's like a detective, or something.
Yes, exactly. In the continuum with William Bradford Huie, another Alabamian whom I've also written about and studied extensively in civil rights history.
i loved how the animation unfolded the story so beautifully. all of the transitions were insane and the stylistic approach captured the emotion so well
I agree.
Also me too.
*As always, especially during the pandemic, it’s a good time to learn and Ted-Ed does the best at teaching us.*
I agree.
Can we just take a minute and appreciate the amazing animation?
Why not? ;) thank you!

oh wow! I thought she was just a random lady who one day decided she didn't want to get up from her seat. I had no idea about her history in activism.
We need to learn about her whole story!
Rosa Parks is my favorite role model and I’m glad her whole story was shared in this video
Absolutely loved this! The animation and music were an amazing complement to the video. Thank you Rosa Parks for everything you’ve done!

This video is amazingly animated and it's wonderfully made.
This is one of the best TED-ed videos I have seen so far. Keep on the good work!
I gotta say, the illustrations and animation in this one is so good, very well made!
She was my hero as a kid I would always love doing projects on her but in all my years I never learned most of this, I feel like school was very minimal on what we were allowed to learn...
Rosa Parks so loved children, devoted much of her work and activism to their causes, and would have been so inspired to hear that you embraced her legacy as a child and did projects related to it.
God the animation, music and narration have brought chills to my spine. Kudos to everyone involved in this video.
I always loved hearing stories about her.
dudeee... you are killing it with the animations..
WOW! What a marvellous storytelling Ted! Wow. It has so much pain and inspiration. And we must not forget any of that, especially today!

Superb graphics in this video.
You know what's strange ? I heard of Rosa Parks for the first time from an episode of the Boondocks😆. From that point I read more about her and learned how much of an amazing person she was and thanks to this video I learned more about her.
What an interesting way to be introduced to her story. This is why history must be shared in a multiplicity of contexts.

Ah, Rosa Parks, a testimony to equality and justice for all in America. I salute her.
animation, music, and the story? amazing
Oh, the animation and music is soooo good!
This whole video is better than some movies I've seen
I love the art style 🧡
The design is absolutely amazing!!!
I just wish Parks was introduced as someone who actually acted as a NAACP member, not just a tired person who just decided she got sick of the system. Other than that, a-ma-zing.
Awesome and informative video

I remember reading and being fascinatd by a short story in my English book named "Rosa Park sat still", as a little kid. I'm from India and knew nothing about the American history, didn't even understand it completely then but I definitely remember a strange feeling of pride that I felt after reading that story. :')
