Fun fact: when hitler was a kid he attended church (lambach abbey) as a choir boy in the entrance there lies a stone tablet engraved with hakenkreuz, the choir boys along with hitler always touch the statue for good luck and blessings, the statue is a priest whom said was the man who built the church, above his head is the hakenkreuz, hitler would later use this symbol but more of the "manji" look and tilted it.

To Potuguese and Brazilian people the Iron Cross may have another meaning too. It actually looks like a Maltese Cross from the Knights Hospitallers (Cruz de Malta), used by the explorer Vasco da Gama in his ships, and the brazilian soccer team Vasco.
This is because of it's origin. It's the cross of the Knights Teutonic. Nazis who moved on from the iron cross also use the Maltese cross, the Kingdom of Jerusalem one & other crosses.
17:07 as a punk it's worth pointing out two things: one, not all skinheads are fascists. the movement was co-opted by fascists and that sentiment still lingers and two: lace code is pretty much dead; it's really only believed in by people who've never actually been in a scene and try to pose by putting forward the only bit of punk styling they know from pop culture

A few things I wish you had also mentioned: 1. The iron cross is still the symbol of the Bundeswehr and even the Bundesverdiesnstkreuz, a civilian merit award, uses a version of it. 2. skinheads originated in England as a worker movement and were originally not explicitly white supremacist. 3. 'Fasces' is where the word 'fascism' originates from. Also, I find it funny how Antifa also uses the same colors as the Reichskriegsflagge. Really great video and thank for getting this info out there. Weitermachen. Edited for spelling)
The colors of antifascist movement have a different meaning, similarities are coincidental. A red flag for communism and a black flag for anarchism on blank white for contrast. The symbol is from the 70s and based on the signet of the Antifaschistische Aktion from 1932. Antifascism originates as counter-movement to Mussolinis fascism of the 1920s. Historical revisionist often use these similarities in colors as an argument to confuse antifascists and fascists, like Alice Weidel most recently did, when she said Hitler was left and a commuist although his regime persecuted and murdered communists and socialists.

There is a difference between the Roman salute and the Nazi salute. It's not that big, but the actual Roman salute is less angled upward and more to the side, and also shorter before the right hand is brought to the chest. 9 times out of 10 though a 'Roman' salute is just a Nazi salute in a bad disguise
6:59 OK, this is plainly wrong. The medal, the "Cross of Iron", was discontinued; it traditionally only was awarded during times of war, discontinued afterwards, and re-introduced during the next war. The Iron Cross, however, is the NATIONAL ENSIGN OF THE FEDERAL DEFENCE (Bundeswehr); many Federal Defence medals, as well as the Federal German Bundesverdienstkreuz, are variations of the "Tatzenkreuz" (Geometric description of the "Iron Cross"). Thus, in the "normal" context, a fighter jet or transport plane brandishing the "Iron Cross" (like the "Konrad Adenauer", the official plane with which the German chancellor travels to summits) just means: "This plane / vehicle / ship belongs to the German Federal Defence".
Thank you for using Hakenkreuz at first before using Swastika. The Nazis used the term Hakenkreuz for it but in the anglosphere Swastika has been the standard name used for it. This is despite the fact the swastika is a sanskrit term and a symbol used by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists (and religions influenced by them like Chinese folk religions and Japanese Shinto) for millennia. In London jewish folk have called the police on Hindu and Buddhist temples and processions for having swastika since they don't know difference between that and Hakenkreuz
@chaorazul_4477 "Tatzenkreuz" is the heraldic/geometric form of the cross. That's all. While a cross will of course look differently if you paint it on Federal German armour, it's well within the tolerances. Look at the first German tracked armoured vehicle, the A7V; the crosses it has are quite different from what you see on a Federal Defence Leopard 2 A7V 100 years later. The point is that the "Iron Cross" / Tatzenkreuz was a "NS insignia", which is simply wrong; and those Neo-NS who wear it as 'ricains also wear something that is different from the medal.
@AKL89 Quite frankly, his videos about f*scism aren't any better. It's informative to check what forms existed, but the infos are quite bad, so you can only use it as pointers for your own research.
Yeah but those are the "good guys" because theyre fighting against Ruzzia. Just like how their Ukrainian ancestors during WW2 also fought against the Ruzzians.
Whilst knowing these symbols is important and can help you identify who or what you're dealing with, it's important to note that some people or institutions also use them in a traditional, spiritual or aesthetic context completely removed from nazi-ideology. It should also be noted that symbols only bear the power given to them by the people. Spotting one shouldn't lead to hysteria and reactionary opposition, but they can serve as matters of discussion if needed. This applies especially to the more generic symbols or those with multiple meanings - for example, a Tyr-rune could merely be a reference to the pagan gods or Viking culture.
yep! it makes me sad, as someone into norse myth (and myth in general) that the n*zis stole all those runes and symbols. and how neos flock to "viking heritage" and the like. its a pain to enter norse myth/viking discussions online and trying to have to parse through "am i talking with a fellow historian and nerd, someone who practices paganism, or a neo-n*zi right now." and trying to make it clear that im just a myth nerd and not a supremacist. i'd never get a runic tattoo as cool as they may be for just that reason. power to pagans who do ofc but... it does make you a little sketchy, even in our own historian and pagan communities you get looks.
Information with incomplete explanations about context could get Celtic/Anglo-Saxon/ Norse Pagans unnecessarily attacked or harassed. Many will wear some of these symbols that have older and deeper meanings to display spiritual beliefs without any political intent whatsoever.
The Swastica was also used as personal symbol by a German jewish pilot during World War I ! While the SS had only one scull on their collar, the German Panzer soldiers had two sculls (one left, one right). The German Panzer troups saw themselfes in tradition of the old Husars.
1:47 In my country, Panama, the indigenous group known as the Guna, living in the comarca indígena Guna Yala (formerly known as San Blas), have two flags: an ethnic flag and their comarca flag. The ethnic flag consists of two thin orange or red bands on top and bottom with a thicker yellow band in the middle In the center is a swastika. During WW2, the Guna people temporarily changed their flag by adding a red ring around the swastika, representing traditional nose rings, in order to avoid association with the Nazis.
It's because Fascists are inherently cultural parasites, through and through. They don't intend to actually bring about meaningful change, just return to something they deem nostalgic and comfortable; like a child who refuses to grow up and face the trials of adulthood.

@@kaizermengele6669 That is why I never make fun of them. Many people think that the national socialists were all a bunch of stupid cavemen with racist views. This was very educational. I wasn't aware there were THIS MANY neo-nazi groups here in the US. Nor did i know that some of these images were considered to be nazi symbols
A lot of rhose groups don't use swastika because the stigma of being a nazi so they use other symbols to dog whistle their beliefs to others who know but regular people won't get the memo
One important thing to remember is that while it’s true there are a lot of neo-Nazi groups in the US, many of them operate within correctional facilities and their numbers per group are very small. They’d rather spend their time fighting each other than coming together and advancing their ideology, and for the sake of keeping the ideology down and under control by the large majority of right-wing to left-wing thinkers within America’s Overton window, that’s fine. That’s why (for now) neo-Nazism isn’t as big an issue in the US as people would have you believe.
You did a pretty good job overall, the video really shows you did a lot of research. There were a couple of errors though, most notably when you are talking about skinheads (which also is a movement that got appropriated by neo-nazis) and then show the SHARP logo, an explicitly left wing skinhead group.

3. 'Fasces' is where the word 'fascism' originates from.

@@debodatta7398 Yeah, this video got alot of things wrong it almost feels like a school presentation

The point is that the "Iron Cross" / Tatzenkreuz was a "NS insignia", which is simply wrong; and those Neo-NS who wear it as 'ricains also wear something that is different from the medal.

the fact i got recommended this after what happened yesterday
I still have 16/23 tattooed on my arm with the hammers, back in my angry and ignorant days. I havent covered it because it's a reminder of how far ive came. Life is much better now. Carrying around something as heavy as hatred absolutely ruins your life. It spreads, until before you know it, you hate absolutely everything and everyone. You can't even enjoy the things you used to enjoy anymore because it reminds you of what you hate. Before too long, youre all consumed with the idea of death and hatred. Absolutely dark. Glad i came out on the other side.
Yep, that's what ideologies of hate do to you. They taint your whole interpretation of the world and everything around you gets poisoned by it.
I am happy to hear you found your way out, so many people however remain trapped and it is sad.
It is also unfortunate to see how many hateful and ignorant people are within in this comment section - kinda expected tbh, alot of these people only know how to complain when faced with information that opposes their world view - instead of actually being able to analyse such information and be willing to change.
@Chris47368 well said. They'll probably thik in a Zionist shill spewing Jewish propaganda lol
@Chris47368 appreciate that btw I'm much happier now.
@@shanesmith734 and ofc RUclips hidden my original reply!
Glad you got to read it and are doing well! 👍
Edit: nvm it is visible again!
@@shanesmith734Anyone who is opposed to their narrow world view or has a story that contradicts it is a "zionist shill", so I wouldn't worry 😅
As long as we are generally happy in our lives, then we are doing far better than them. They can continue to cope and seeth for all i care 😂
Btw - I was once right wing, never too radical fortunately. I got caught up in all that culture war content in 2017 and got into listening to the likes of Shapiro and Crowder.
Pretty much at the time i started feeling much more angry at the world, i kinda realised how misinformed i was becoming and essentially ended up drifting back to the progressive left again once I realised that the left wasn't attacking everything(or it was a very small and insignificant minority, if it was). It actually seems that the far right are doing the very stuff, they accused the left of only a few years ago.
So i also know how easy it can be to fall for such hateful ideologies and can relate to your story a bit, even if i didn't end up going as deep.
“Stolen” It’s been traced back to Proto-Indo European artifacts.
Yeah everyone just likes to ignore that
Did you even listen to the next 30 seconds of the video
Not continuously. Proto-Indo Europeans may have used it but they lived thousands of years ago, they were literally pre-historic. People stopped using it. So yes, they got it from the people who have continued to use it
they used the symbol a lot between the 5th and 9th century, so did the Scandinavians. They were not “prehistoric” that’s a ridiculous claim
So... Stolen
In summer 1916, the traditional Prussian style totenkopf became the official Regimental badge worn by the Garde-Reserve-Pionier-Regiment. These pioneers were trained specifically in the use of flamethrowers and shock tactics. The Totenkopf badge was awarded to the Regiment by the Crown Prince and was to be worn on the sleeve.
Thank you so much for putting this together, you did amazing.
Context: RUclips don't block/delete video and don't demonetize video, if this a education/history context and idea of video
They do, they've deleted numerous History channels including one I used to run that just archived old WW1 and WW2 footage. The channel was deleted last week and I've had it since 2015 [but havent posted to it in ages]
Apparently WW1 + WW2 footage is "Hate speech".. at least according to RUclips (there was no speaking in those videos btw)
And yet they don't censor actual hate speech!!!!!!!!!!!!!
nah.
they give shadow bans btw.

Very interesting. But the first skinheads were no racist or more. Boots and laces don‘t make racist.
A quick search of “esoteric symbols” and you will soon learn that almost all symbolism is to disguise Satanism.
I thought the original skinheads were part of the punk rock scene and were staunch anti racists

Basically they were into esoterism. Black sun unironically goes hard
Esoteric trolling is also really popular on 4chan and that’s where most of the symbols in the video are used today.

YEah odds are the variations on the symbol could easily have independent origins.
About the black sun: Since the Hakenkreuz is forbidden in Germany, many rightwing groups use the black sun as an alternative symbol, since they see it as 3 Hakenkreuze overlapping each other. There are many clothes and flags using the black sun instead of the original Hakenkreuz.

At 7:15 your bias is showing by leaving out the fact that the iron cross is a current symbol used by the modern day German air force formed on 9 January 1956 called Luftwaffe which was founded as a branch of the new Bundeswehr.
While the iron cross was adopted by the 3rd Riech for a short while, it has spent a far longer while standing for the new German air force, heavy metal cultures, and Gothic cultures.
Thanks for all the other stuff, though.

Very good video. Thank you for putting it together. I have towering respect for you in this day and age of bans and cancel culture. Same case as the imperial flag. The fact that it has other meanings and contexts, like most other things in the video, does not mean it is not explicitly used by nazis, neonazis and fascists to identify and signal themselves.
