It's not that they're too afraid to teach it - it's that they're not permitted to teach it by the US government. In the US, school syllabus is highly controlled and monitored by the government due to its dark history(and present). The more Americans that know the real truth about their own history the less patriots, which means less enrollment in the military. For such a warlike and militarised nation, this cannot do. It's the same with all imperialist countries like Britain and France. Education in these countries is highly selective, controlled and streamlined.
School breakfast is great way to improve academic performance. It's really hard to do math on an empty stomach, particularly the harder high school level math.
To be as fair as possible to the NRA, they supported gun control laws prior to the rise of the Black Panthers, and in fact explicitly disavowed gun wielding white supremacists during the civil rights era. The also supported gun control laws in the 1930s that prevented mail order guns and restricting the sale of actual machine guns.
@White lives matter straight man hahhahahhahahahaha! Worst hate groups in US history?! You're a robot right? Give me one lynching or assassination perpetrated by BLM. Are you aware of actual hate groups and their activities at all? Nope!
@@DrQuak First of all, the step that they took in 1930s to stop the sale of MGs, SMGs and mail order guns was to sheild the production of handguns from regulation and not some nobel cause, although the move was marketed as if it was to keep it out the hands of 'gangs'. Also the NRA didn't have any form of proper lobbying structure at that time. Now, disavowing white supremacists doesn't hold much water if you mirror white supremacist talking points in order to increase sale to your overwhelmingly white consumer base (a tactic which is used by the people who hold the highest positions in the company till this day.) So no, they hadn't actually pushed for gun reform prior to the rise of the Black Panther Party and their innovative outlook towards the 2nd Amendment.

Remember the only time when the NRA called for gun reform? I do, it was when the Panthers demonstrated with guns. ✊🏽✊🏽

I think the police can be reformed, but then I remember stuff like this and I realize that you can't reform something that is working as intended. Reforming something would imply that something is broken or needs to be fixed, but I truly believe that the police and prison systems in America are 100% working as they were designed to work. The BPP did not see Canada as a "socialist" society... they were anti-capitalist Maoists. Whether Maoism should be our ideal is a different conversation, but this clearly whitewashes Hampton's and the Black Panthers' radicalism.
This video definitely rubbed me the wrong way when it came to talk about the Black Panther Party’s socialist ideals. The video paints it like they were advocating for something like Bernie’s “democratic socialism” (social democracy) when that just isn’t true.

This needs to be taught in schools THIS IS AMERICAS HISTORY!!!
How would school implement any teaching? Obedience and credulity are in its dna. Even more considering history classes. Self-teaching is the best way to know and understand.
Yeah but literally all of history so
You know schools are like... extreme propagandist right
They're afraid to. They don't want our black children getting any ideas, they don't want a new Black Panther party to start up. And if anyone thinks black lives matter was ANYTHING like the Black Panther movement, they're nuts.
You americans have a weird definition of socialism if you call Canada socialist
Due to McCarthyism, a lot of Americans think anything left of Mussolini is socialism. Having basic social programs that literally every other rich nation has is socialism to them. It's sad because the indoctrination is so deep that even many poor Americans will reject the idea of introducing more social benefits because that's communism/socialism. Many don't even know what those words mean, they just know it's bad and 'unamerican'.
Most Americans never leave the country and the only concept of any other country is from the internet or tv

America would have had better politics and equal society today had the Black Panthers thrived!
and that's precisely why they did not
The question that follows that is, "Would it still be America, or would it have fallen into the control of other countries?" The only point I am trying to make here is that no matter what the topic is, you can't know the outcome, be it good or bad, until it has passed and it is time to pick up the pieces and see what is still standing and that goes for anything and everything that brings change about. I do think that our country could have been made better, but I don't know for sure the best way to achieve that and neither does any of the rest of the world until it is too late to go back and try again. RIP in any case...
@@epictales1307 I'm glad you can admit you don't know the best way to better our country. Fred, the black panthers, and countless other black activist did know how to better our country for the common people. That is why the U.S. government murdered them.
And the minimum wage would probably be closer to where the wage of the 60’s was adjusted to inflation. If you adjust the minimum wage of the sixties to inflation it means that American minimum wage should be about 22 dollars an hour. Yet companies cry to even pay 15.
The black panthers where radical socialist, not the Bernie Sanders democratic socialism, they are nothing like Canada which isn't even socialist
The mere fact that free breakfast programs are still needed shows how great of a problem there is. It is a winner take all economy and society now more than it has been since the rise (and subsequent fall) of labor movements of the early 20th century.
Yup my mom was a teacher and I’d go to the breakfast in the morning and it showed me reality as an early age
@@jjcoola998 I taught after school programs in Akron and Kalamazoo and the kids that were in the programs essentially had to be there because their parents or single parent were still working obviously. The kids always also got an after school meal, which is think is great. But the fact subsidized meals are even required just shows how depressed wages are for a huge segment of society. But you know the old saying; Welfare for the rich and large corporations and rugged individualism for everyone else.
Some kids don't even eat breakfast.
We all must be more like Fred Hampton if we are to free ourselves from the shackles that keep us bound to wage labor.

Not really. American government agencies throughout history have often been slow to respond to far right and reactionary movements and groups.
They need to get orders.
He was trying to bring all the oppressed together to fight the power - his fatal sin against the establishment. May his soul rest in piece and his memory remain in the minds of the people.
This is the first time I'm hearing of this story and to the extant of the black panther party's positive affect on struggling communities. It's a real shame but I hope that I can continue learning about stories like this and participating in the movements and messages people put their lives on the line for.
I think the difference... major difference actually, between the movements of the 60s and now is current movements have no actual aims/goals. unless you count making people "feel" like they're doing something. keep that in mind while you're participating!
Fred Hampton had it right. That's why they killed him. The same thing Hampton did happened centuries ago. Look up The Bacon's Rebellion.
After that the color codes came to be
I learned about this recently when I went into a deep dive learning about the BPP and I’m surprised (but also not) that things like this aren’t a part of school curriculum bc it’s common knowledge
High-schools just talk about "I have a Dream" and consider the rights movement covered
Because if they were to teach the truth, they know that people would not stand for the status quo today. A thorough and honest understanding of history in just the last 100 years would radicalise anybody to fight against the system.
If this was taught in schools I think we all know a certain group would decry the information as CRT
"If it makes me feel bad about being a racist, it's CRT!!!!"
They did
That is why so many Southern states don't want free breakfast programs for children. They know where those programs originate.
