I am Filipino, and I was on the Jasmine (and Camille) train. However, looking back, I wish this came earlier, considering the collateral damage that led to this elimination.
This was very predictable one. No tears the night before, three very disconnected performances, Jasmine was a goner and she probably wanted to go at this point to avoid more backlash. Very nice girl, the audience was the one to blame on put her on a situation were she was out of her debt. Had she gone the week before, people wouldnt have so much hate towards her/she wouldnt be extra exposed for being out of her league. At least they allowed her to sing her swan song one of her two really good performances off all season.
The problem was, this show is the first to give the decision/ winner to the voting public and it’s not Jasmine’s fault at all that a lot of people (or Hawaiians mostly) voted for her. Poor girl. :(
She was likable but that wasnt the reason. The reason was because of Hawaii. I remember reading that back then she received 3/5 of her votes from Hawaii alone despite Hawaii only represents like 1/200 of the US populations.
Yes also she was Filipina too American Idol was also huge in the Philippines. I think that’s also the reason why she was voted so high up. Plus she was cute and adorable and very sweet girl. However I feel that this season was clearly completely voted on racial issues. Nobody should have thought Fantasia won. To me personally LaToya London should have won but people were clearly racist because of what happened with Jennifer Hudson’s elimination.
Our Filipino prides Jasmine Trias (3rd) and Jessica Sanchez (2nd). It's disappointing that at least one of them should've won and become American Idol.
Like come on. Jasmine is the only one undeserving here. Diana is one of the most consistent throughout the whole season and Fantasia of course deserve this. Diana vs Fantasia finale was crazy. The most competitive finale ever. Even Paula Abdul said that.
NO ONE is denying that Jasmine is not a good singer. She can freaking sing amazingly. But that top 3 spot, based on their disco night performance, nah. Based on the comments combined for the 2 songs they all sang each, hers wasn't the greatest. The whole point of the show is to vote based on how they sang for each episode not how likable and cute they are. Jasmine can sing but that night wasn't her greatest. It was good but not the greatest. And to have the 2 best singers at the bottom was unbelievable. Even the judges were really shocked. And the reason why people was especially outraged with Latoya being at the bottom instead ofJas. If Latoya's performance that disco night was as good and Jasmine's was better, then the reaction would have been different but I wasn't. That's the only downside to this show. People voting on looks instead of talent. Look how far JPL got. His vocals was not the best. But NO ONE is denying that they can't sing at all but it's a competition on how you sing based on vocal performance in each episode
I say this with all my kindness in my heart for dear sweet Jasmine: She should've gone home way sooner. Her heart probably couldn't take all the pressure, and people pity voted her the way through. If she'd gone home earlier people would look back on her more fondly. Oh well
thank GOD and we all know her crappy vocals were saved Barry Manilow week when Jennifer Hudson's hometown and surrounding area were hit by tornados and thousands could not vote, oh well look who has the Oscar and who got kicked off here who had one of the worst voices ever on this show..yuck

Fantasia was a winner from her first audition. It sticks in some people's throats but it's true. The fact that she draws breath is annoying to some but the right person won

I couldn't stand Fantasia then, and I stikl can't to this day. Her voice is like nails on a chalkboard. All she was trying to do was sound like Macy Grey. Which she did well cause Macy sucks too. So that was not a good thing.
