    I grew up in a Pentecostal church where the focus was on the gift of tongues (which I know is a true gift for many), but for me, the Holy Spirit convicts me and reminds me of things that are not pleasing to God. He reminds me to back up, regroup, and do better each and every day. He is a teacher and helps us endure until the end.

    I was filled/baptized with the Holy Spirit 5yrs ago. A year later while going through extreme spiritual warfare, I started praying and asking God, why this was happening, I immediately felt something in my mouth. I started praying in tongues(mysteries in the Spirit 1Cor 14:2) it was completely supernatural!!(private prayer language so different function than the tongues in Acts 2) I had no idea this gift was even for me and didn’t even know it was real. The Holy Spirit gave me this gift in my time of need to fight the enemy. The gifts of the Spirit are extremely important!! God is so good!! 🙌
    There are 3 types of different functions for the gift of tongues.
    Signs for the unbeliever;
    Acts 2 at Pentecost actual languages that led people to Christ because they heard the gospel in their own language.
    Private prayer language;
    1Cor 14:2 For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit.(doesn’t edify the church, edifies you because you’re praying the Father’s will back to him.
    Then tongues with interpretation. This is someone giving a word in an unknown language and another person interpreting. This would act as a prophecy because it edifies the church. 1Cor 2

    It seems that so many focus on self empowerment rather than for ministry. Having to prove yourself worthy by displaying one particular gift . Paul diminished self edification on favor of edifying others. Gifts was added to scripture for readability , therefore we should persue what is spiritual. Also prophecy is not just for telling the future but also forth telling.

Which always leads to a lot of fire in the wrong direction. The Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a gift, one that is received. Anyone who has received has been empowered for ministry, all sorts of ministry. Well Caleb, I respectfully have to disagree with you on this point.
    A.One aspect of the holiness doctrine is the concept of three works of grace: salvation, sanctification, and the baptism in the Spirit.
    B.William Durham suggested there weren’t three works of grace, but only one work of grace, shown in two ways in our lives. He did not believe in the so-called second work, namely, sanctification[which is done upon the New Birth].
    He taught that believers were saved and then baptized in the Holy Spirit; ** Note: This is a simultaneous event, not two separate events.
    -At the baptism of Jesus, there is a prediction of a future baptism in the Spirit. -Baptism in water is for[because of] repentance; baptism in the Spirit takes place the moment a person becomes a believer in Jesus Christ as there Lord and Savior, which also includes a repentance from their former manner of life.

    The question remains: When is a believer baptized in the Holy Spirit?
    The answer is in scripture in:
    Romans 8:9.
    “You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ.”
    The last sentence of this verse in Romans 8:9 makes it very clear that by the time Paul wrote Romans, all believers had the Holy Spirit.
    Compare the following:
    Jn.14:16-17;
    Rom.8:11;
    Gal.4:6;
    2Tim.1:14.
    That has to mean that all believers receive the Holy Spirit at the point of the new birth.
    See John 3:5.
    There were exceptions at the very beginning of the Church Age for two major reasons:
    1)obviously, because many were already believers and therefore needed to receive the Spirit by other means than salvation which they already had;
    2)because of the necessity of establishing the authority of the apostles (who were given to mediate the Spirit by means of the laying on of hands),
    3)because of the need to bring about the transition from the leadership of Israel to the flooding in of the gentiles into the Church;
    4)a certain amount of gradual, step by step movement was necessary (i.e., Jews [Acts 2], to Samaritans [Acts 8], to gentiles as exceptions [Acts 10], to gentiles as a rule).

      Who is B. William Durham?

    • @charlesstreng1074
      @charlesstreng1074 4 месяца назад +2

      @@iThinkBiblically William Howard Durham was an early Pentecostal preacher and theologian, best known for advocating the Finished Work doctrine. The term finished work arises from the aphorism "It's a finished work at Calvary", referring to both salvation and sanctification. [Finished Work Pentecostals and Holiness Pentecostals are the two main branches of classical, trinitarian Pentecostalism. The dispute surrounding it was called the Finished Work Controversy which split the Pentecostal movement into Wesleyan and non-Wesleyan doctrinal orientations, known respectively as Holiness Pentecostals and Finished Work Pentecostals.
      I was a Pentecostal for about 35 years and left the denomination about 10 years ago. I was ordained as an Ordained Bishop in 2011. I have studied this doctrine for a while and have come to the conclusion that the Pentecostal doctrine of a Second Word of grace, that is the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is contrary to the Scriptures, as Ephesians 4:4-5 indicates. It is my contention that one is Baptized by the Holy Spirit when they become a true believer in Jesus Christ and His gospel. It is not a second work of grace as some believe.

    @Dave77220 4 месяца назад +7

    This is not a simple question. From Romans 8:9 we learn that if someone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to him. So all saved believers have the Holy Spirit. In Matthew 3:11 John the baptist prophesies that Christ will come to baptise in the Holy Spirit. In Acts 1:5 Jesus himself tells the disciples that they will be baptised in the Holy Spirit. Then in Acts 11:16 Peter remembers that the Lord had said they would be baptised in the Holy Spirit. Then Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 12:13 that we have all been baptised in one Spirit into one body. In each case the Greek words used are "en pneumati". For some reason this is translated as with or by in some versions. But it's clear to me that all believers are baptized in the Holy Spirit. But as brother Caleb points out, it seems that we can be filled with the Holy Spirit at some times more than others. Indeed Paul exhorts us in Ephesians 5:18 to be filled with the Holy Spirit, which implies that we can be less filled or more filled.
    In my view, the big error is in charismatic and pentacostal circles where some pastors and believers insist on a separate baptism of the Holy Spirit in addition to receiving the indwelling of the Holy Spirit when we believed, which has to be manifested in some way, such as by speaking in "tongues" which don't correspond to the biblical tongue speaking in Acts 2. This leads to frustration on the part of those who recognise that they haven't received this supposed second blessing, fakery by people talking in gibberish to show they have received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and elitism on the part of those who believe they have received a special blessing that the others haven't received.

    Caleb, your delivery, demeanor, position and presentation of content is a gift from God! I hope you never take that for granted.
    I have many testimonies about the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, leading up to my experience and a host of other’s experiences. As amazing as our God is, there isn’t one instance in hundreds of people who were spirit baptism that was identical. So, to the inquisitive seeker first, there is no “recipe” to receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit outside of 1) Believing 2) Seeking. God creates a special unique and personal experience for every single person.
    I used to ask folks this question: Are you a disciple of Jesus or a disciple of John. Everyone unanimously claims Jesus. I then ask them if they have received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit and the answer is almost always no or, “I got all the spirit when I got saved, etc…”. The only difference in John’s and Jesus’ disciples is the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. Many people have never considered the fact that Jesus “never baptized the first person in water”. Jesus only baptizes with the Holy Spirit and fire. Seeker, study the Holy Spirit, search for His work, believe that God has prepared something special just for “You”! When it happens, share your story!

    Great Video Caleb! 👍 may I share this too: in John 20:21-22, Jesus breathed on his disciples and said “Receive the Holy Spirit”. At that moment they were born again according to John 3:5-8, they have become a new creation (2 Corinth 5:17). Then on Pentecost they received power from on high, (baptised by Holy Spirit). We must be very careful not to covet this event; the LORD will give power to whom He wills! We must be thankful that He gives us His Holy Spirit, which is more than enough….. 🙏. 1 Corinthians 12:13 says we are all immersed into One Spirit, One body! Wow Hebrews 10:15-17 = Jeremiah 31:31!

    Ask yourself this question: is it possible to be born again and not receive the Holy Spirit? Then ask yourself this question: why was it so vital that Peter and John be sent to Samaria? After all they believed, repented, and were baptized in water! We’d call that a great outcome in today’s evangelism. Not so with the Apostles. They understood that in order to be born again, you had to receive the Holy Spirit. That is why they sent Peter and John.

      So why did the apostles have to come down from Jerusalem to Samaria on hearing that the Samarians had come to faith through the gospel taught by Philip (who was not an apostle)? It was to lay apostle hands on them in order to impart the miraculous measure of the Holy Spirit. Only the apostles could do that and the purpose being to assist the spreading of the gospel by the Samarian converts who like Philip, would then be able to perform miracles, (but not be able to pass the miraculous measure on because only apostles could do that). When the last apostles died, miracles ended: probably before then and around AD70.

      @@ChristisSaviour unfortunately, because of your cessationist views you don’t understand the Scriptures when it comes to this matter. Where does it say that only the apostles could pass on the gift of the Holy Spirit? Actually, the apostles couldn’t do that. It was not for them to give the Holy Spirit to individuals. As John the Baptist said, it is Jesus who baptizes in the Holy Spirit. The most the apostles could do was pray that they would receive the Holy Spirit. And everyone who repents and believes will receive the Holy Spirit.
      You’ve also forgotten the fact that Ananias, who wasn’t an apostle, also laid his hands on Saul so that he would receive his sight and receive the Holy Spirit. Therefore you’re totally wrong according to Scripture.

      @@SlavicUA In Acts 6:5 where the apostles chose Stephen, Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas; we learn these were men already saved and full of the Holy Spirit. What they did not have was the miraculous gifts of the Holy Spirit; only the eleven received that ability when the Holy Spirit came upon them at Pentecost. Notice it was after the laying on of apostles hands that Stephen and Philip are recorded as doing miraculous activity. However, this ability could only be received from an apostle (Acts 8:18), hence why Peter and John had to come all the way from Jerusalem to Samaria. Think about it, if Philip could have imparted the ability to do miracles upon whomever he layed hands, then there was no need for Peter and John to come to Samaria. This is the biblical evidence in my view.

You’re not separating the gifts of the Holy Spirit which He Himself distributes to whom He chooses, and the gift of the Holy Spirit Himself, when Jesus comes to dwell within us. Yeah, I agree with you, I've prayed for the "prayer language/baptism of the Holy Spirit" over the years and have never received it so I'm left knowing; 1) either I've already received it and don't pray in "tongues", or 2) that some receive the gift and some do not and that's fine as the LORD decides what gifts we receive.

    Concerning Romans 8:9, does it mean that the Samaritans somehow already had the Spirit of Christ before the laying on of hands by the apostles? According to your reasoning (that they were already saved) it had to be so, otherwise they weren’t saved according to Romans 8:9. What then was the purpose of the “second” receiving of the Holy Spirit, which seems to be the baptism of the Holy Spirit? Was it God’s way to show in a supernatural way that they were included in His plan of salvation?

    • @ChristisSaviour

      So why did the apostles have to come down from Jerusalem to Samaria on hearing that the Samarians had come to faith through the gospel taught by Philip (who was not an apostle)? It was to lay apostle hands on them in order to impart the miraculous measure of the Holy Spirit. Only the apostles could do that and the purpose being to assist the spreading of the gospel by the Samarian converts who like Philip, would then be able to perform miracles, (but not be able to pass the miraculous measure on because only apostles could do that). When the last apostles died, miracles ended: probably before then and around AD70.

In fact, consider what Jesus said, "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' I have to say I'm very disappointed in this teaching. Caleb you take almost if not all scripture out of it context. You then shoot out "the Bible says this and the Bible says that" a number of times without a scripture reference at all. Maybe in your desire for this teaching you decide to just ignore your own suggestion at the end to properly exegesis the scripture but you misled in many ways. You also suggest that the Apostles and others needed Pentecost for boldened to accomplish things but you completely ignore when Jesus sent out the 12 plus others and they cast out demons, healed the sick and preached the good news. To also say that this not out sharing and preaching don't have the Holy Spirit is an affront to the actual Scriptures. You are saying that those not doing those things are like second hand Christians without the Holy Spirit. When we are saved we are filled and sealed with the Holy Spirit and to each one are given different gifts- such as Evangelists. This are the one given that gift to share the Gospel. We should all share our salvation because of Gods grace to us but how you are stating it is wrong. Again- we are all given gifts from the One Holy Spirit, and there are many gifts. Your teaching and how you presented it was wrong. In love of Christ. Also as a side note the Scripture does not say there were any others with the Apostles at Pentecost. This is a common mistake of those who do not read scripture in context.

Being baptised by or in the Spirit is a one off. 1 Corinthians 12 v 13. Then you have Ephesians 4 v 4 - 6. There is ONE baptism... that baptism is the placing of one into the body of Christ, which should happen at new birth.

    It is very misleading what you have said about the late David Wilkerson's beliefs. He believes that you have the Holy Spirit within when you are saved & even before you are saved it is the Holy Spirit bringing you, convicting you so that you get saved & are born again. The Holy Spirit is within every true believer. He realises that it was different in the very beginning when Jesus went back to Heaven & then only could the Holy Spirit come as the comforter etc. which is why initially the Holy Spirit came to them separately & some believers had never heard of the Holy Spirit. It is within us - He does not believe in a 2nd Baptism of the Holy Spirit now after you are born again as do the NAR (National Apostolic Church), the Word of Faith Movement & others as this is totally wrong & they teach that you do not have the Holy Spirit within you when you are born again & need to be baptised in the Holy Spirit. @@Ancient-Paths Your anecdotal personal experience does not dictate Bible doctrine. If you were not baptized with the Holy Spirit before, then you were an "almost Christian" that merely got saved later on.
      Thier are several instances of people receiving the Holty Spirit baptism in Acts. Keep in mind that when Jesus walked on the Earth, He came for the Jewish people. Acts 2 shows God's acceptance of the Jews. Acts 8 shows that the Gospel extended to that half-Jews, the Samaritans. Then in Acts 10, God confirms the Gospel to the Gentiles by baptizing them with the Holy Spirit.
      The idea of a "second baptism" comes late in Christianity, starting with John Fletcher (1770's) where he convoluted "fillings" with multiple "baptisms." Later in Methodism, around 1850, wanting to show an event that would indicate a "Second Blessing," the Holiness Movement began and popularized the idea of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit being that event. Later, around 1904, Second Blessing Methodist Charles Parham tried to "pray through" and bring on the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, but it failed to work, so he regrouped and noted that people spoke in tongues after receiving that Baptism. And then prayed for tongues and not sanctification, birthing the Pentecostal Movement.
      Historically speaking, Christianity was around for a Millenium and a half before anyone "discovered" this connection. It is just bad theology that metastasizes into even worse theology.

That is why they had to have Jesus explain the parables he taught to them, and why when he told them several times about how he would suffer and be put to death, and rise again on the third day, none of them understood because they had not yet received the Spirit. And the reason Judas could be possessed by Satan! When Peter
    Preached to them in Acts they ask what do we do, and Peter told them, repent and be baptized for the remission of sins, and you will receive the Spirit. All believers have the same Spirit of God residing in us, there is not a different Spirit that baptizes us, it is the same Spirit that all believers have. And in Joel it says in the last days God will pour his Spirit on ALL flesh, not just the 12 disciples! How do you think all those who were tortured and killed by Nero went through it? The Baptism is a complete immersion in the Spirit, an overwhelming experience of his presence, that is available to everyone. The Spirit is poured out, and believers are filled and immersed. The difference with the new experience of the Spirit is sheer abundance. (Note the disciples were actually drunk on the Spirit, Acts 2:13-17). Then, the Gospel is proclaimed with power, but the entire spiritual life of the believer becomes more intense, and he is introduced to supernatural power.

    I respect your interpretation brother. However, I do disagree with it a bit. As you said the people who don't have the 'boldness' to preach, I think that that's a matter of God granting the "gift of faith", as mentioned in 1 Cor 12. I don't believe the gift of faith there is only referring to a saving faith in Christ, but rather a gift of unwavering, uncompromising faith aka "being filled with the Holy Spirit" and boldness, and perseverance such as seen with Paul in Phil 4, Noah, any many other examples. I think being 'filled with the Spirit' is different from 'Baptism of the Spirit'. After Pentecost, now that the Spirit is available, we are 'baptized with the Spirit at Salvation, however in times of our own feebleness and lack of boldness, fear etc, God can grant us the gift of faith to empower us to move forward, despite our failings.
    Because otherwise every single believer who has been 'baptized with the Spirt' would never ever be afraid or nervousness or failings in their flesh, if the Baptism of the Spirit, being separate from salvation, is what empowers us. Obviously, the Holy Spirit inside of us empowers us, gives us gifts, etc (including the gift of faith), but obviously we humans fail and that's why He gives us the gift of faith from 1 Cor 12, when we fail, He picks us up and empowers us to do His Will.
    Verse to consider: Ephesians 5:18, and Galatians chapter 2 when Paul is talking about his rebuke of Peter. In that passage, Peter at this point was clearly 'baptized with the Spirt' as this was well after Pentecost, however Peter did not have the faith or boldness to stand up and speak up for the gentile Christinas in from of the Jewish Christinas and He played favoritism. However, Paul, seemingly being filled with The Spirit at this moment, rebuked Peter in front of all, which I imagine would have been adaunting task for anyone in their own flesh, to rebuke the Rock (Peter). I think all of this boils more down to the gift of faith rather than Baptism of the Spirit.
    And just like divine heart hardening doesn't necessarily seem to be absolute as God hardened pharoahs heart multiple times, I think the gift of faith may possibly not be absolute either since they were filled with Holy Spirit more than once, Acts 2 and Acts 4:31.
    All in all, i would say that a more proper understanding of the general idea of being 'baptized with the Spirit' would more properly be described as the gift of faith from 1 Cor 12. Anway, I respect your brother. And love your videos. God Bless!

    I believe that baptism of the Holy Spirit is when you become born again. John baptised with water. But Jesus baptised with the Holy Spirit and with Fire. I believe that baptism of fire is a second anointing. You can receive both at the same time like Apostle Paul or receive at a different time like Billy Graham did.

      The baptism of fire mentioned by John the Baptist, is explained by John himself in the context :
      Matthew 3:10 Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
      Then we have the well known verse :
      11 “I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
      Then an explanation :
      12 His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor and gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.”
      Those baptised in the Holy Spirit are the wheat, gathering into the barn while the others are the chaff that will burn with unquenchable fire (baptised with fire)

    Hey Caleb. How would you explain the following verse if indeed there’s a difference between being baptized in the Holy Spirit and being born again?
    1 Corinthians 12:13 “For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body. Whether Jews or Greeks or slaves or free, we were all made to drink of the one Spirit.”
    We see here that one becomes a member of the body of Christ when they are baptized in the Spirit. Otherwise we can say that you can be a member of the body of Christ without receiving the Holy Spirit? That’s not right. See the following verses why I’m saying this.. Romans 8:9, 1 Corinthian 12:13, Acts 8:15-16, 10:44-47, 19:1-6
    These verses prove that receiving the Holy Spirit, being baptized in the Holy Spirit, the initial “coming upon” of the Holy Spirit, the initial “filling” of the Holy Spirit, are all synonymous terms.
    Please read David Pawson’s books The Normal Christian Birth and Jesus Baptizes in One Holy Spirit to understand the full scope of this

    Romans 8:9
    You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. 10 But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life[d] because of righteousness. 11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of[e] his Spirit who lives in you.
    I’d say that’s definite proof that every true believer has the Holy Spirit indwelling them.
    But I do believe the coming upon of the Holy Spirit and being ‘filled’ with the Spirit are movements of the Spirit which empower us to prophesy and preach and preform miracles etc.
    perhaps even the baptism of the spirit is a separate event of the indwelling that endows one with gifts. Don’t know.

    So who is the Father of Jesus? YHWH or the coequal 3rd person of the trinity? It was the 3rd person (Holy Spirit) who conceived Jesus in Mary's womb According to Catholic doctrine. And you can't claim it was the Father due to the strict definition of the trinity doctrine set by the church. The Father cannot be the 3rd person Holy Spirit and vice versa.
    Sooner or later Christians are going to discover that what they have believed for over 1700 years is a concoction of the blind guides in the catholic church that developed the false doctrine over the following centuries after 70 ad. It contradicts everything Yhwh said about himself over 6k times just so there wasn't any confusion. Yet, the church has followed after a man they claim is God Almighty directly refuting YHWH himself. Instead of following after the LIGHT of Truth and studying to show themselves approved. It all crumbles to reveal the truth. Just as promised, the church would be blinded in-part until the very end, in the day of affliction their eyes will be opened and they will know the Father. Jer 16:19-21. He ALONE is God. There is NO OTHER. Isaiah 43:11, 45:5-7. He is our only savior. Jude 1:25 (original kjv).
    No man has ever seen God at any time and he has no form. If people can't even comprehend the 1st commandment then they deserve to be deceived.

    GRECO-ROMAN CHRISTIANITY OR JUDEO-CHRISTIANITY?
    Given the fact that Jesus is not one of the many sons of Zeus, the god of the Greeks, and that the God of Abraham had never promised a Son to Israel but the Messiah (HaMashiak) which the Greek forgers and fiddlers translated as “Christos” as it is written:
    "I will raise among them the Messiah(Christos)HaMashiak, a Prophet(Messenger) like you Moses, Him they must listen..."
    Deut.18:15-19; Acts 3:17-24; Acts 7:1-30; Luke 24:25-27 and 44-47; Acts 17:1-3; John 4:24-25, Surah 3:81, etc.
    So Messiah(Christ) is a Prophet in the likeness of Moses as Matthew proved it. Like Moses He stayed in Egypt. Like Moses He is Mediator of a New Covenant.
    Considering that the Gospel that Paul proclaimed to the world mentions JESUS CHRIST SON OF GOD and not just JESUS.
    Therefore, we can deduce that Trinity is a misunderstanding of the Pauline doxology of “Father, Son, and Holy Spirit”!
    Because between Jesus Christ (HaMashiak) Son of God and Jesus Son of God... there is a great philosophical and legal difference if we take for legal framework the TEN COMMANDMENTS and the social environment where Jesus was born!
