    Blind obedience to a man is how cults get started. And it's also why they end.

    • @enterthebruce91
      @enterthebruce91 Год назад +3

      Correct. It starts with a 'Pastor' being paid. Jesus or the apostles were never paid for what they did. A pastor (lower case p) is a function, not a title given to a paid preacher. Salaried 'Pastors' are unbiblical because it gives rise to pride and egotism, there's not one example of a salaried 'Pastor', evangelist, preacher, teacher or apostle in the entire New Testament. The apostles, as the most prominent Bible teachers all had regular jobs (fishermen, tent makers etc). God bless.

    • @phild9813
      @phild9813 7 месяцев назад

      Salaried pastors are certainly not unbiblical. Personally, I want all of my pastor’s needs to be met so that he can fully devote himself to equipping the saints for the work of the ministry. A few examples to consider: 1 Tim 5:17-18 …“The laborer deserves his wages.” 1 Cor 9:14 “In the same way, the Lord commanded that those who proclaim the gospel should get their living by the gospel.” Paul even says in 2 Corinthians 11:7-9 that he “robbed other churches by accepting support from them in order to serve you.” These guys were all taken care of, sometimes monetarily and sometimes by other means. Obviously, a pastor seeking to be wealthy is unbiblical, but paying a pastor a fair wage is not.

I listened to him saying that God himself came to him in 1991 to author his first book. He didn't want to. So God sent 2 different women to tell him if he didn't write the book that God would give it to someone else. So your "30 years ago" is meaningless since, according to bever himself, it came directly from God. Now, of course, all that is a lie he told to sell books, he's a false teacher a charlatan, and a snake oil salesman. Run from him and his teachings.

Then that same day the visiting and his wife were speaking in tongues to each other like cling on. Then the actual pastor was asking for more money from the congregation just to have a particular Netflix channel for their church to have more people to fund them. I left their as fast as I could. We were trying to help them by trying to put a new window each month because they were very old and falling apart and she said no. Asked if the only 4 youths could start their own classes or even their own RUclips video and start a youth prayer group and she said no. I was the only one with a baby and I asked to put a newborn changing table in the bathroom and she said no as well. I felt like I couldn’t grow at all only if we would give more money unnecessarily.

    This teaching is so needed. After becoming a new Christian many years ago, I started attending a non-denominational church and then a few others after that first one. I found heavy shepherding or just unbiblical and unhealthy "honoring" of the pastor and his wife at several of these churches. I was confused as a new believer at some of the things I experienced and my relationship with God suffered for several years afterwards. As I've been drawing back to God again, I am very careful now about getting involved in another church. I've found a good church that teaches the word of God but they are in another state so I watch them online. I feel like I'm not being completely obedient because I'm not physically going to church, but I spent years visiting different local churches and there was always something going on in them that I found to not be biblical so I just couldn't submit myself.

    praying in other churches, giving there tithes and offerings, if they do, they'll be doomed, so he's kept his congregation in such fear.
    When they don't give him their tithes, all they have possessed as a result of his prayers will fade away. He has mobile money lines for those in distant areas like abroad, failure to send yo tithe, yo doomed.

    The one in Tim. is a bit complicated. The essence of it is if you are doing something wrong, especially as a leader, you will be responsible. And you will take that responsibility. The problem with this passage is the two or three witnesses part. If a pastor rapes a co-worker in the office, and nobody saw it, he still did something very very bad and should be immediately kicked from the pulpit and in prison. The two or three witnesses needs to be seen as a "you need to prove it". Today we have scientifically based tests, today we have recording devices, today we have cameras. Tons of "witnesses", but so many times this one has been abused to say things didn't happen because nobody saw it...

    I have a question as to whether pastors are leaders biblically anyway. I'm not sure that that is their roll. It doesn't appear biblical that I can see. I would love your comment on that. I wonder whether protestants just renamed the titles when they broke away from Catholicism, but still a similar structure. We have little mini Pope's at the head of each denomination. Especially in penticostalism. Not sure how a church should look, but I'm pretty sure it's not the way we are now.

    The job of a pastor is to teach sound doctrine,to feed the flock. The pastor is to care for the spiritual needs of the congregation where GOD has placed him. It is not the in the authority of the pastor to control every decision, every area of the lives of the people.
    This is part of the teaching of a hierarchy in the church, which is horribly wrong.
    I tell my church regularly that a pastor preacher or whatever title u may use,that the pastor is one called from among never to he above the others.
    My duty as a pastor is to teach the WORD OF GOD and be there to counsel and teach where it is needed.

    I've been a believer for 60 years and began going to church as an infant, carried there by faithful parents. We went to church faithfully three times a week and were there for every special event. If there is one thing I'm familiar with, it's church. During these intervening years, "church" has become a form of family entertainment with a heavy sprinkling of needing to control things so it can all get pulled off. The church branding must not be injured so they can get more people to come. and the move of the Spirit has become scarce in our churches as a result. Using Bevere's example of dressing for choir. When there WAS a choir, either people wore what they had on, or they wore robes. Mostly, the church couldn't afford robes so they wore their own clothes. Nobody cared much because the focus was on the preaching. "Choir" hadn't become big business. Meaning the pastor wasn't worried how the choir reflected on his church's image and what that would do to his ratings. When church began to be treated as a business, any true move of the Spirit went out the window.
    One thing about Bevere that really chaps my hide is the enormous amount of money he and his wife have made on books. Don't get me wrong. I'm not against Christian books, though I believe the focus should keep being made on the Bible by pastors over and over, again and again. But Bevere has honed the art of coming up with a single topic and then fluffing out the pages to make enough material for a book. Then, in his church bookstore, for sale in his building, you could always buy one of the dozens of books one or the other of the Beveres had authored. Not to mention outside sales. And always, the central theme of each book has been rather questionable, with a lot of ear tickling speech to catch people's attention, making them think they've heard something profound. The word of God is profound. Beveres notions of how to sell a book are smpty clouds, devoid of much-needed rain.

I find the example he gave of wearing the loud clothing to be a bit absurd but could give him some leeway to allow him to illustrate his point. Please note Bevere's appearance in the video. It is obviously an old one as John was much younger then. What Bevere said was a snapshot in time. His views were extremely generalized in the video and thise views may have changed since then. I have heardbHeb 13:17brepeated by elders that i have learned a lot from and respect and i have heard it said from them that congregants shouldn't pick and choose what church to go to or else they are in a situatuon of being "just you and your friends with a bible under a tree". The idea seems to be that Heb 13:17 is a commandment, that must be followed.
    It seems to me that there is a lack of sober analysis and careful consideration of this passage. Even in protestantism, there appears to be a more gentle but still present hegemony of a ruling class that is like the roman catholic system but wearing a different habit. "You must come to us and submit in order to love Jesus properly"
    I appreciate your explication of this topic.

    • @SaharanKnight

      I would think that you could have a church with your friends under a tree, in your home, car, whatever, but under one condition, that your gathering includes all the elements of the church, the foremost being the apostles' teaching as described in Acts 2:42. My understanding is that if there is an individual in the group who is gifted by God with a teaching gift or another gift like prophecy or apostle, and IF that said individual is in a continuing disciple relationship with Jesus and evidenced by humility and the desire to serve the church, THEN that individual should be accepted by the gathering for, in effect, conveying the original apostles' teaching based on the Gospels and including the rest of the New Testament as well as the Old Testament.
      Acts 2:42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.
      When there is 24/7 heart devotion like this to these four elements (all these four elements being activities with worshiping included in each of them) for the Body of Christ, and that including the gifting of an individual to convey the apostles' teaching, then church can be held anywhere. One can be led by the Holy Spirit in this. God's grace and peace to you all! ❤️

    • @SaharanKnight
      @SaharanKnight Год назад

      To follow up, and this is not directed at any particular individual, but there is the saying, "KEEP IT SIMPLE, STUPID!" Meaning : Jesus' commands are simple. Jesus' teaching is simple. The Lord's Prayer is simple. Moreover, Jesus sent us the Holy Spirit to bring to remembrance all that Jesus taught and to teach us. It is all simple, we have no excuses. Jesus taught us to be like little children -- I would think that means having awe and being open receptors. As so we believe, God help our unbelief!
      All scripture is inspired, each word is important. So, for example, in understanding the above quoted Acts 2:42, the words "they devoted themselves" has to be important -- it actually looks like the key verb in this verse. Devotion of heart is 24/7 devotion, and of course out of a love reponse to God's truly amazing grace and love.
      Today people, especially young people, are hungry and left searching in large part because those who think themselves to be followers of Jesus lack this 24/7 devotion of the heart, and they lack simplicity. Let us deal with Jesus constantly, like the twelve disciples whom He called, let us meditate daily, even continually, Jesus' teaching in prayer before Him. Then let us obey with joyful hearts!

    Also, I had a little so called pastor who tried to Lord over me. He told me I couldn't go out and street preach for 3 months. He said I couldn't even go out around the city and pray because according to him "God would not hear those weak prayers". He also got mad because I was preaching against these leaders who slap flattering titles in front of their name to exercise lordship over the laity. Yeah, safe to say I rebuked the little troll and fast forward 4 years later he is teaching the clot shot is the mark of the beast.

    40 years ago, the Holy Spirit prompted me to be baptized by immersion. Like many born in the 1950's, I was baptized by sprinkling as an infant in a mainline denomination church. I have no recollection of that baptism, and was told when I asked my pastor to baptise me as an adult to "accept your infant baptism as sufficient, by faith. I will NOT be part of your faithless act if you choose to be re-baptised". This was the response from several pastors I knew (I had a traveling music ministry at the time). Still the Holy Spirit prompted me to be baptised by immersion and finally I turned to a friend who was also a believer to do the deed, in a public lake, in the middle of January (winter in the US). I truly believe the decision to obey God and ignore the howls of hirelings to disobey Him, was a turning point for my growth in the faith and Holy Spirit. It puts me mindful of Peter's word to the religious leaders when they demanded that he resist God's command: "judge for yourself whether it is better to obey you or God" ... the process of growing in the faith and Spirit is perpetual and requires that we always answer Him "yes Lord, I will" when He asks for our obedience and cooperation with Him.

    Heavy Shepharding is very common in Pentecostal Churches. I've always felt uncomfortable with it, but it's what I was always taught. Thank you for bringing clarity to the scripture. Something else to keep in mind is that we have to be careful not to interpret everything in Hebrews literally. Yes, all scriptures are inspired by God and given for our benefit..However, there was an additional purpose and target audience behind the scriptures in Hebrews. These were Jews who did not understand the Christian faith. They were still following old testament practices as well as teaching from Pharisees. They did not understand that Jesus fulfilled the law and no more sacrifice was necessary....Just something to keep in mind.

      I was raised in a Pentecostal denomination, the Assemblies of God. This denomination, as a whole, was never heavy into shepherding. I've noticed that Beveres teaching has gained traction in AG churches in recent years but even now, shepherding finds a stony ground in many AG churches, with its influence being more subtly felt by the average member. Unfortunately, the AG is lacking in good teaching material these days and pastors will sub with Beveres teaching so it's gaining ground. In the old days, before the audience required Hollyywood movie -quality entertainment in their teaching and preaching, the AG excelled in providing good teaching material. They just didn't keep up with the trend. Unfortunately now, when I do see something trendy, it's tainted with seeker friendly poop.

      I agree that leadership has a limited roll and authority but I don’t agree that they have no authority as a leader. These are two extremes. The Bible talks about elders and deacons and an organized body with leadership roles. Some take it way to far but I feel the opposite extreme isn’t good either. There is a healthy balance. A lot of pride (which is in your way) can be exposed in you when you meet the challenge of submission and obedience. Trust a Sovereign God. That being said, I am also challenged at times because Pastors aren't always correct, and when you question them you can seem like someone who is arrogant or disruptive, when in fact you're just questioning to be sure or to let the Truth be given either to me or to the Pastor - I have a major problem with this.
