- We beat Persona Q! And I definitely lost my sanity along the way. But to be completely honest, I loved every minute of this game. The battle system, interactions, puzzles, map-making, labyrinth design is all absolutely perfect for me and brought back a lot of nostalgia along with it! Thank you so much for watching!

The real Maze of Life was the maps we made along the way
When you realize the game's core story is about helping a young girl face the truth of and come to terms with her death by granting her wish of friendship she had sought in life, is when you realize that [despite some foibles w/ characterization] this game is somehow the perfect thematic combination of P3 and P4.

The best part?
In the beginning of the game Elizabeth tells P3!MC about this journey. So he is totally aware all things that happened in this game but just decided not to tell the rest of the team.
The best part about Makoto Yuki knowing that particular fact is that like he usually says “I don Care”

And then they are dragged straight into a movie theater where they meet a bunch of thieves and a talking cat.

When you realize that due to the framing device of Elizabeth telling Makoto the story, Makoto is the only one to canonically remember the events of this game... it's kind of sad... well, at least there's Q2
Being told about the events that transpired in Q1 probably also helped him gain some insight into overcoming his struggles during the events of P3, theoretically speaking it would make sense narrative-wise.
Sadly, they forget everything in pq2 too...

When i first played this Rei's story really resonated with me and still does. I get sick and go to the hospital because of an illness that i have. i've missed tons of important things in my life and never actually got the chance to be an actual kid. it was so bad that when i got back from the hospital i'd just go right back a day or two later. I've also thought "why me why is this happening to me?" thankfully its not to the level of me dying. Even though it is just a game i really related to rei's story and her struggle. thank you for playing one of my favorite games!
Ashly Burch's voice acting in the scenes about Rei's past knocks the wind out of me every time. Insanely good, unbelievably sad.
Yeah. She is amazing. The first time I played it and saw the whole thing with rei, I cried like I never did in any video game(I did cry at some games but not like this). I think I had some mental breakdown or something...then in the end I had happiness tears. And every time I go back to those flashback scenes and rei in general, I always has some tears in my eyes before I know it. Yeah I'm not trying to sound like a cry baby but this shit is sad. Probebly the most(or one of the most) miserable character in the franchise, but the one that gave life to chronos "the death god", and made p3 and p4 cast closer to each other. I love this game!

And for those who played both P3 and P4 side, there’s a special photo at the end. P4 side also gives us chibi Nanako, who is just as precious as actual Nanako.

To this day i find it incredible that Zen is voiced by Shido's voice actor! Keith Silverstein is downright amazing.

The Persona Q games both deserve more love. They're every bit as fun and heartfelt as the main entries. Sure, they tend to be more goofy most of the time, but that just means they up and clock you when you least expect it.
The weight of tragedy is amplified when you like those it happens to, and experiencing the joy of everyday levity is one of the best ways to make sure that connection happens.
Honestly, the final dungeon of PQ is just perfect for me. I love everything about it, the plot, the aesthetic, the difficulty, the puzzles, the map making. It was really funny to see you slowly devolve into Dora, but im glad you loved it as well.
Yeah I think PQ has a great final dungeon. I still remembered it pretty well even though I played the game back when it first came out.

That 6000 heal Best Friend got is because a Shadow-self, after being defeated, offers a second chance to be accepted.
But Rei rejected it again, causing the fight to continue till it dies so Rei started to react that harsh later.
Same happends to that creepy kid in P4 after doing the pixel boss and in some way Adachi.

PQ will always be one of my favorites. It starts out quirky and ends by ripping your heart out.
I've been noticing Shinjis has died to several attacks that do exactly 444 damage. It's kind of bizarre because I'm pretty sure the number four and death sound similar in Japanese. Someone please tell me if I'm wrong.

q1's ending felt like an actual ending to a persona game with how they handeld rei and zen's deaths
Fun fact about this games Reaper, its hp is 13666 which is combinations of the two feared numbers

It’s because 13 is Death in the Major Arcana. Chronos has 13000 hp for the same reason

I REALLY hope we get a story from Persona Q3 or Arena 3 or Persona 6 where Elizabeth recruits all the old wildcards to bring back Makoto, or as I've talked about in detail elsewhere, having Liz take on the Igor role in P6 to accomplish that goal with the Shadow Ops, Instigation Team, and maybe even Thieves showing up as part of the story.
Also, if you haven't, I recommend watching the Persona Q 3 fan opening by Peppermint Grinder. A hard drug for "I hope they do this at some point" folks.
Can't wait for when you play Q2. You're gonna love Akechi in that game.

persona games are pretty heavy handed with the symbolism. theres also the fact that shes played a lot of games like this so i guess she can pick up on common foreshadowing techniques.

You know not only is Rei probably the most heart breaking character for me but also there are so many bittersweet scenes that tie this game together beautifully if you think about it.
For example if characters had remembered everything what happenned on PQ maybe Shinji would have survived as Ken learned from Kanji to not be so hellbent on searching revenge and we even get Futaba actually becoming comfortable around popular girl like Risei which would have likely helped her to become more confident with people.

There’s always Q2...
So the Spider is a reference to The Spider's Thread. The spider itself being Rei. In the story, Buddha saw compassion in Kandata who did not step on a spider and held out one silver thread for Kandata to climb. Kandata tired stops in the middle, and sees that the other sinners from hell are ALSO climbing as well, shouting at then that the thread is his and his alone because he thought the thread was going to break. Though because of him wishing himself his own salvation, the thread broke, thus all the sinners from hell including Kandata fell back all the way down into the Pool of Blood. Either I'm wrong here, but Rei also wished for her own salvation, desperately clinging on and wishing that she had a better life instead of being ill. Rei (Niko) hated everyone who had a good life and got to have friends/go to school without having whatever she had. She was so upset, she cursed that god didn't save her, thinking the girl next to her was mocking her because she was still alive, happy and laughing.

That title is not something I would have expected in my recommended, but I like it.

Just saying, if you played the second part (P4 sides), it will have different cutscene, probably more (there is a room in the hospital that can be only entered with p4 sides, and mystery food x . . . .), also you can fight secret boss elizabeth (only if you new game plus)
I forgot how painful step by step explanations made for kids sounds. I want to P3 myself.

I know that Persona Q2 would be next, but I would love to see Crystal's reactions to Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE with her dance background (and the fact that it's basically Persona 4.5). With the game being on switch now, there's like, nowhere near the barrier to entry it used to have.

As much as I don't like Persona Q's gameplay, Rei's story is legit so tragic and heartbreaking.
With all these guesses part of me wonders if you'd be able to guess the plot of the Persona 2 duology.

Rei made the God of Death feel bad about her. THE GOD OF DEATH felt guilty about Rei's history of hospital visits. And Then Zen made Rei an Ideal world. Sure he stole her memories but if Rei made a GOD feel bad about her then that means Rei made a god cry! And Death Gods are typically "I don't care about humans problems!" Even original Kratos would cry at her predicament!
