They were one of my absolute favorite bands in the mid-80s. Went to England on a summer study abroad program to study Shakespeare. The Icicle Works just happened to be playing at a small venue in London, and we went. The bass player at the time (1986) smiled at me in the crowd, grabbed my hand and pulled me up to the stage and placed me on some kind of big black box, perhaps an amp--I watched the rest of their gig from there, swooning the whole time, I’m sure. They were very lovely guys :)
I so miss the 80s,the first half in particular.Musically there is nothing for me out there right now,so go back to my kidhood. This is the best.
Do that! 👍😉
Yes today's music is sad glad I was young in early 80s n groups Spandau ballet Thompson twins Duran Duran depressed me bit coz those days are gone
Best best decade by far 80s through and through
Very rare that a 4 minute song is played till the end on TOTP. Probably because the song is so darn good.
Couldn't come from anywhere other than Liverpool, that intensity, depth, yearning, beauty and archness. When everyone says oh you must like the Beatles as I'm from the Wirral now in the South, I despair at the limit to what they see as Mersey music. Now this is music to me, like Echo and the Bunnymen, Julian Cope, OMD, Ladytron, Dead or Alive etc. You may move but the Northern windswept longing and depth never leaves your soul.
You make poverty sound so romantic.
It’s nothing to do with poverty.
@@I_Have_The_Most_Japanese_Music it's about passion for music, not poverty
Great comment and don't forget the likes of The Lotus Eaters with this beautiful performance: ruclips.net/video/4T69pJeb12s/видео.htmlsi=2OIJgAnQaHwTuXLT

A beautifully crafted song from 1983
Great song, best played very loud!!!
Extremely loud😊
Good reminder 🎉
Possibly the greatest pop song ever written
In 2024,and still one of my favourite songs
Me too!!
This is ridiculously great - absolute genius!
Heard this at work yesterday.....just stopped and paid homage to a forgotten classic.
Whoever suggested it on the Pandemic Playlist....Thanks.
I heard it in our local Co-Op supermarket today. I hovered over the reduced price cabinet till it was finished. I bought the record on release and played the arse off it, but hadn't heard it nor thought about it for a very long time. Cracking big sound off it, full of vitality and vibrant . . . colour 🧡 Lush lyric and good strong vocals. Sweet.
Such an underrated album and band! Still love them! 🖤
A song I have always loved brilliant.
remember watching them on the tube .great sound
Thank you - one of my favourite bands.
Our pleasure!
1983 great year for music I was 16 & this was a favourite of mine at the time There was a few Liverpool bands around at that time pity they faded away
Awesome and I don't user that word loosely. Ian McNabb is a seriously underestimated musician. Seen him live quite a few times over the years. His solo albums are something to behold and I'd definitely grab them all as my 'Desert Island Discs' Long live Boots.
Love this song
Beautiful
Saw them live at my college in 1984/5 - a great night rounded off I think with a rousing version of Pretty Vacant of all things.
Ohhh, one of my favourite songs.
Thank you. I like it . Good job!
Thanks for listening
Top class ❤
