Kezar Stadium in San Francisco was where the legends played.

Produced by Franklin Mieuli! He later bought the Warriors and won the 1975 NBA title.

Offensive Coordinators and Quarterbacks learned early on to not throw the ball in Jimmy Johnson’s area, so much so that he quietly worked out his career under the radar as perhaps the best cornerback ever to play the game.

The Pack were close to clinching the Western Conference. They had beaten the Lions on Thanksgiving. Hornung's kickoff at the end was short and the coverage poor. The key to slowing the Pack down was stopping their running game just enough. Starr had to throw more than usual in this one. Another observation was that Herb Adderley was a rookie in 1961. He only started once that season. In 1962 the Packer defense got to the next level when he became the full time DB. He had a pick six in 1965 against Brodie.

My 3rd birthday! Pretty good tackle by Bart Starr. Jim Johnson was just a fantastic player. Ben Davidson, long time Raider DE, was a member of this Packer team. RC Owens, he could play!
My son played in Kezar many times. That view over the scoreboard looks pretty much the same now.
3:02 Starr completed a ton of these. Play action, post by the WR and wheel by the RB. Paul Hornung caught a lot of them.

You don't see many plays from the old days when they smash into the goal posts. They had a bit of give. It wobbled pretty good.

Lombardi's voice must have been bouncing off the locker room walls after that one, lol.
Great stripes on the 49ers' helmets. It was a design much emulated on Hutch, Pee Wee football helmets of that era.

    Great video.
I called that number, but it forwarded me to "Puff, Puff, Pass" near Haight & Asbury. They open everyday at 4:20...

Ron Kramer was actually a star at Michigan, (as mentioned at 4:16) not Michigan State, but considering the real-time fortunes of the Wolverines and Spartans on the gridiron, the mention is received and welcomed. This is a great timepiece. Wonder if anyone is selling a retro Falstaff for $10 a six, as is the case with Stroh's, Altes, Wiedemann, etc.

Bob Fouts coined the term "Red Dog" when describing linebackers rushing the quarterback now widely known as a 'blitz'

If the weather this game had been the weather the year before, Dec. 10, 1960, when it rained and was cold and muddy, then the 49ers would have been playing the Eagles the day after Christmas for the NFL title. The 49ers had a great defense in 1961. Offense not bad either. Unfortunately, they lost to Chicago in Chicago, 31- 0 midway through the season, and Hickey dumped the shotgun formation that had given them a great record up to that point. Bears linebacker Bill George figured out how to beat the shotgun.

Bill George is forgotten because he was followed by Dick Butkus. Unlike Butkus, George won a championship in 1963 with the 'Monsters of the Midway' defense

Meh, wishful thinking. The Packers shut them out 13-0 at home in 1960, and they got whipped 41-14 in GB in dry, 49 degree conditions. The 49ers did not have anything close to the passing attack in 1960 they had in 1961, so I think your memory is foggy.
