    The older trucks will always be in demand. The new ones are all over priced through away junk .👍

    New trucks will always be around it can be bought after establishing yourself and ur finances. Older truck is a good way for a new owner op, 2007 and older to avoid DEF and DPF. Top 3 engines to consider Detroit 60 series, most caterpillar motors and Cummins N-14 motor. Suit & tie guys can't take older truck from u cause u got title in hand, but let them find out ur near completion of lease on ur new truck and suddenly u see less work for u from dispatch, u can't make ur payment and b4 u know it ur keys are gone, and the next sucker fresh out of school is signing the dotted line to take your keys and the potential dpf problems u used to have when u drove that truck...if u are gonna buy brand new truck have 10 yrs exp, pay $150+ cash and keep old truck as spare.

    I agree 100%
    I've been an independent owner operator since 2011
    I bought a 2002 century with Detroit 60 13 speed and still using it. Of course I had in frame rebuild and replaced the transmission recently and some brake and alternator and radiator stuff done to it, but that truck paid for itself in first eight months. Most definitely you should have money in your bank before you buy any truck no doubt about that. One of the key aspects in being a profitable owner operator and I'll put that on top of the list is to have a good honest mechanic, they are despairing quickly. I wish you all good luck and stay safe out there.✌️😎👍

    HT logistics 3434 joined the FLD club as well. As for me 2 years ago I bought my 2013 volvo for 15k got the red isx15 with all bells and whistles a. K. A def egr and dpf buuuut I never idle and always change the oil exactly at 10k miles and it has never given me no problems. Right now the rates are great at Landstar and insurance is dumb cheap going back back to Cali Cali to make that paper.

    I'm so happy I watched this. Idk if you remember one of my previous comments but I'm gonna start trucking school in January with a goal (and dream really) of basically being where you are now as an owner operator. And from watching you and AK and OTRookie what I've learned already, I'm happy I know before hand how bad the lease purchase is. I would never ever buy a brand new truck. I'm perfectly content with an older truck. I just dont know which brand would be best suited. I have a long way to go obviously before I should even start thinking about it but, just thinking ahead for fun you know?

    Here's my comment & I really don't care what anyone thinks. Your 1000% right. Paid off older equipment will ALWAYS be better than a newer vehicle. Plain & simple no emissions & sensors that control the truck. If a 1 box goes down on a def controlled truck its anywhere from 9-11,000💰💰💰. You can get a Detroit or Cummings rebuilt at Freightliner 4 that price. Run the truck & save your money, it will pay 4 itself in 3-4 months if you play it right. Everything he says in this video is the GOD'S honest truth.

      @NomadTrucker  3 года назад +2

      Maybe. I do 7.5 or better depending on the load and region. Even through the mountains I still get 7 mpg. The cost of the truck and the possibility of a minimal better mpg Is still greater than the cost of an older truck with slightly worse fuel economy.

      @@NomadTrucker Its not mine, driving for an O/O in a 2020 T680 just got my best of 9.5 with 16k in the box from Oh to Ms, this after getting a trailer with the side skirts. Most of the older school engines pre emissions are in the 5-6 avg range from what I have read online so your rocking a good avg fro pre em engine. I have an apu as well, Heck just 2 mpg avg diff on 100k miles is 4,500 gals at 3, 4 or 5.00 a gal its crazy. But hey I am not arguing you at all, I am researching and number crunchin for a purchase coming up. Anything I get will be used, not new like the one I am in. I want an old school 379 with a CAT or 60 for all the reasons you mention in the vid...minus the potential for this current Gov to run diesel up high and or pass new laws against all the pre emissions trucks regardless of state...idk...thx for the vid and reply brother.

    • @NomadTrucker
      @NomadTrucker  3 года назад +1

      I personally don't think that they will outlaw all the pre emission trucks because there are so many trucks on the road that would get shut down and we are in a driver shortage already or at least they say we are. My question is, that 9.5, was that what the dash said or is that actual miles to gallons filled? Cats are power houses but they are extremely thirsty. The 12.7 motors are very reliable and even with a hooded truck you can get good fuel mileage. 12.7s are cheaper and easier to maintain/rebuild. Me personally, I would stay away from a cat unless it's something you have to have.

    • @sword-and-shield

      @@NomadTrucker This Admin? the way they shutdown that pipeline on day one, they will probably limit them to farm use only..idk.. Yeah the 9.5 was trip avg from the dash. When you do have ur $ together consider an aerodynamic pre emissions truck that's 2007 and older with a manual. This combination usually equals the lowest cost of operation. Freightliner Columbia's and centuries usually fit this mold. If ur truck must be ELD compliant get a truck year 2000 or newer. Research ur engines, oils, fuels, rear end set ups, and historic problems your potential truck has.
