Vocalist Matt McGachy says about the song:
“The lyrics of Godless Deceiver are extremely vulgar and disgusting. As I was doing research for the album, I came across the story of Fabiane Maria de Jesus. A 33 year old woman from Guarujá, Brazil, which is a city outside of São Paulo.
“She was brutally murdered by a mob of people that thought she was responsible of kidnappings in the area, following a Facebook post by a local news outlet. The newspaper reported that a woman had been seen abducting children, and many believed her motivation was witchcraft. A sketch of the woman the news outlet claimed was a child abductor was included with the alert, and resembled the victim. It turns out in the end that she was innocent. This group of vigilantes killed her for no reason whatsoever. It really brings into light the importance of never trusting what you see, read or hear about on the internet.
“I decided to write the lyrics from the mobs perspective, which is why they are simplistic. Brutal lyrics about an extremely violent act. The mob never questions if they are doing the right thing, they just acted in unison.
“It is one of the nastiest song I have ever written.”

Chris writes riffs like he was a founding member of Crypto, seriously, this album is exactly what a Cryptopsy fan would want from this band. It sounds 100% Crypto, to its deepest core. Fantastique album les boys!

I loved reading the description to help make sense of the unusually 'shorter' lyrics; it's a mob of vengeful people, going after who they _think_ is guilty... I wouldn't expect them to have thoughts any more complex than "kill her". What mindless monsters!

Yea, the lyrics and event the lyrics are based on are disgusting. Matt always writes really interesting lyrics and he pulls off the vox so well! Def a great vocalist/writer.

God I love Flo Mounier's drumming. He gets a bit of flak from these new school kids who are raised on music where the drums are all programmed or if they are a real drummer, it's all processed to hell and every note is snapped into perfectly alignment with the beat.. but that's what I dig about his drumming. You can instantly tell it's him and it's such a distinctive feel.

I'm glad to see these cats still delivering some gourmet metal. I got on the Cryptopsy train back at Whisper Supremacy. Just before they dropped ...And Then You'll Beg. Still probably my favorite album. The fucking art work on the inlay...fucking master peace type shit. I believe It was around the release of ATYB when I saw them live at Ohio Deathfest. Mike D was still on vocals. Years later I saw them with Cattle Decapitation at the Exit/In in Nashville. I want to say Lord Worm was on vocals for that one? 2003-04 time frame. Then maybe 2 or 3 years later I saw them in Tempe, Arizona with I think Suffocation headlined that one.
Despite the line up changes and a couple experimental albums these cats still sound like Cryptopsy. That's fucking legend right there.

Their best track since Amputated Enigma. Full of history and brutality. This new record shows and proves why Cryptopsy are still at the top of the brutal tech death metal game. Flo leads the charge, Chris takes Jon's guitar vocabulary and twists and weaves a wicked tapestry....Oli's bass playing is absolutely thump crushing. Matt's vocals are seething with technical putridity.

It's like boomers who only like Queen for 'Bohemian Rhapsody'; yes, it was pretty good, but for God's sake there's so much more to enjoy.
I really think the essence of 'Cryptopsy' is their willingness to make every release sound so different. Even when Lord Worm returned for Once Was Not, he sounded very different, and the 'None So Vile-only' crowd hated that 😂
There's no pleasing them... oh well. There's still plenty of us who DO love this band!
