I'd like to do the same to my 86 951/944Turbo and my 84 na the power steering on the Turbo is Horrible very vague feeling not like my old 924 that was spot on
Should be a nice improvement unless you spend most of your time in and out of parking lots. 🤣 The factory power steering provides moderate assistance at best anyway. I’ve thought about removing the lines on mine, topping off the rack with oil, and plugging the connections, but it’s not leaking at the moment so I’m going to leave well enough alone.
I think it’s going to be awesome and exactly what i want in this car experience. I watched boost brother garage episode about depowering a rack but I think this will be a better solution. I have the rack in the car, but the car is off the ground still currently. Once I get the weight back on the front end I will align everything, can’t wait to test it out
I am waiting on parts but I’ll be back together soon. The last person to work on it managed to put the balance shaft gear on the crankshaft incorrectly and destroyed the pulley and the woodruff key if you can imagine that. Once I get that new balance shaft pulley in, I’ll be back on track
@@tims_4x4_garage I ended up ordering this setup from Martin and I’ve weighed the power steering components against the manual rack and shaft… it’s 14 pounds lighter! How did you know the tie rods were Scirocco sourced? None of my stuff has part numbers on it.
I see you disconnected the intermediate steering shaft from the upper u-joint connection… any challenges or tips to share there? I’m assuming the lower connection at the rack wasn’t playing nice?
I wasn’t going to be reusing the steering input shaft, so it didn’t really matter which end I disconnected. It’s just a little easier to get to the top one
I don’t have the exact part number on the rack itself. I only know the tie rod applications to cross reference. Contact Martin Willis out of Colorado Springs he can build you a rack. He is 5266light on eBay. He has a machine shop and specializes in Porsche and may be the only one building these
@@brucejames4123 yes I have one of martins racks. Fit beautifully in the car. I drove it for the first time this morning, to work. I’m building an alignment jig for the car currently but for now the alignment good enough with a tape measure.
