  • Manual steering conversion on my Porsche 924 to replace the worn out power steering system. This was a conversion I had planned before I even bought the car as I am focusing on lightweight and simplicity throughout the car. This is definitely not for everyone as it does make urban driving a bit more challenging but as a sports car this is perfect! Overall this was a well made kit that installed very easy!
    The kit was sourced from:

Great video! I actually just sourced an original OEM manual steering rack for my 84 944. Just finished tearing it down to regrease the rack and repaint the body. So excited to go to manual steering!

I saw your old steering parts on facebook market place and I knew this video was coming.

My 944 was manual steering, very heavy to park but great at speeds above 5mph.

Definitely not fun to parallel park in a hurry but great otherwise lol

That was a great mod for that car. Steering effort is mitigated by only turning when you have roll going on. None of my 1st 3 vehicles had power steering, air conditioning, or automatics. I miss the manual shift. I still have 3 with that, though.

100% Most of my vehicles have been manual

this things coming along! I bet that made the driving feel 10x tighter especially in the twisties

It definitely did! With the old worn tie rods there was a huge dead spot in the steering making the car wander. Wasn't confidence inspiring at all!

Nice job! Steering wheel feeling better (more oldschool) and no leaking fluid is a bonus :)
