I was in the jungle on that never to be forgotten Monday evening in 1979. It was magical but the Celts put us fans through an emotional rollercoaster like no other. People forget that Rangers had already beaten Celtic 1-0 in their home game at Hampden Park ( Ibrox was getting refurbished) just two weeks before this match. Alex McDonald scored the only goal of the game. They were massive favourites to win the league after that, and were going for the treble, but our 10 men played like their lives depended on it and won through in the end. Great memories.
Was a young kid who went to bed that night thinking we had lost the league, never even tried to stay up I thought we were done, Next morning up for school, gutted, just before I headed off i seen the daily record ( my da had it delivered ) turned it over and seen the team on the back page, could not believe it, we had won, ran down to school, everyone was buzzing, even the teachers. Long time ago, great memories though. Think that night finished Rangers for years, until 86/87 at least.
One of my first memories as a young Celtic fan living in England was when it was announced on ITNs Ten o'clock news that night that Celtic were the Scottish Premier League champions! We didnt know the score, so thats how we found out.
This means so much to me🍀I was just getting to that age when you stop going with your Da n start going with m8s.This,out of so many, was my favourite being with my Da.🍀We were at end of jungle at Celtic end n all these yrs l8r,in my mind it’s in colour 😁As you know cos of strike, the only images are b/w that a Tim took from jungle. The ball coming of Jackson n by Girvan lighthouse was like slow motion 😆We were up,then Russel scored flat, back up then when Rhino hammered that 45 yarder 😆 we went into ecstasy 🍀Walked up road cos buses were on strike but just floating n singing along.Loved being with my Da.This was wonderful Thank you hail hail 🍀🍀🍀
It was hard to get scores from Glasgow in Dublin at that time - no smart phones then. I nicked into my newspaper office from the pub after half-time to find out the score, saw we were one down, and then saw on the creed that Johnny Doyle had been sent off. I went back to the pub sick as a pig to tell my mates to forget it - no chance! Around 9.30, they told me to go back, find out the final score, and put us all out of our misery. I went into the creed room, rifled through yards of copy, and then saw - "Celtic 4 Rangers 2! Celtic are champions!" I couldn't believe it. Back to the pub - cue bedlam! What a night! 🇮🇪
I bet you got the shock of your life when you heard the final score, I was 13 and was there with my uncle Pat god bless him, never been to a better game since, real Roy of the Rovers stuff.
I remember that night vividly, listening on the auld radiogram. My parents had a job calming down an ecstatic 11 year old. Cracking childhood memories. It’s a real shame the tv cameras weren’t there that night. Some broadcasting dispute/politics if I recall
Yes, STV supposedly wanted to show it live, which Desmond White KO’d. The highlights were to be shown after News at Ten, but there was some kind of technician’s strike so it was only recorded by the Celtic Cine Club
I was supposed to be at the game i had a ticket for the Rangers End (i was a Rangers fan). I broke my ankle playing football at the lunch break at the Chrysler plant, as i was taking into the works ambulance to the RAI a workmate (Celtic fan)shouted Jackie you will not make the game i gave him my ticket and he was delighted that night and took me out for a drink and he would not allow me to put my hands in my pockets to buy a drink.
Remember it well . I was driving home and stopped to ask a fan the score. He must have left early as he said it was a draw. I was disappointed. Imagine my surprise later. Brill. Wish I had been there.
I remember it well went with all my mates from Bellshill got back to the British Legion and remember 90 glasses of a certain wine were shouted up at last orders yes 90 glasses.
I forgot all about it it was on a Monday night then at the end off news at 10 the guy said there's new champions off scotland Glasgow celtic camera s convently broke no film off it just like the 7 1 game I was at the Burnley game as well loads off trouble at it great night for the bhoys huns only needed a draw John Doyle stuck boot into Mcdonald on the deck and had to go McDonald's a right hun
The cameramen went on strike before the match. Was supposed to be highlights on STV. It was filmed by the Celtic Cine club, but the quality isn’t great.
Thanks uncle Pat for taking me to the best ever Celtic game I have been to. RIP

In my humble opinion this was Celtics greatest victory given the circumstances!👏👍🇮🇪🍀
