Love the tips especially about breaking up the salt in the plastics. Really helped me out on the tubes and flukes. For me Zoom speed craw is great. I trim the curl off the claws so they are just flat. Fish them weightless in 2-3 foot deep creeks.
Your Channel is really good. We fish the same lakes so I use your tips a great deal. Please dont mention that god awful winter storm again. All my pipes froze & I just got indoor plumbing a month ago. keep the tips coming. The show is great.
Got a couple 3700 boxes full of old school craws & still use em, they’re still useful as any old baits are, Those ole bass don’t remember the good ole stuff!! Thanx for the great tips!
Yes it is , I have used Gene larew for 25 yrs on a 1oz1/2 jig and Tx rig 3/4 oz . Year round but in the dead of winter and summer are the deadliest all day . You will catch your bass of a life time . If you ever heard of Old screwlock jigs by Terry oldham give it a try . Pair or w lilgator n black blue 6"saltcraw you don't no what your missing. My style from lake Amistad.
last year, I found a pack of these old style craws at a outdoor yard sale ( Green Pumpkin) and weeks later I was fishing a local lake and ran out of rage craws, So I dug out these old school lures and caught a 5lbs largemouth and 2 more 3lbs fish, within an hour, Texas rigged with an EWG hook , so yes these " OLE-SKOOL " craws really do still work !!!
Thank you so much for the video. Craws are my favorite. I'm going to look for these style craws. I hope you are staying warm. 7 degrees here in Little town Oklahoma.
I'm a big Zoom fan! My favorite is the ultra-speed craw! I'm a new sub...I'd love to see you do a video on the ultra speed! I've used it for jigs, texas rig, carolina rig..ect.!
Randy, you speak my old school lure language that I relate so well to. I enjoy learning from each of your posts and being inspired to stay with these classics. I especially appreciate that I already have supplies of these and don’t always have to chase down and buy the latest lures to be successful. Thank you so much!
I'm 25 and really enjoy randy talk about baits that I have in my grandpa's tackle boxes that were some of the ones he didn't get to show me how he used. I've got a jointed carved wood lure and some weird double hook spinner worms I've wanted to use but too afraid to hang them up so I'm replicating them
@@calebz1448 you can still get the Do-Nothin and Scoundrel worms. The worm harnesses as well as the spinners have stayed alive with support from the walleye community
I don't know if you have done a video on frog fishing. I have a tough time with which one is the best one and if you had tips on modifying it. You are my go to for bait mods.
So Randy I really enjoy your teachings. I still fish the Gene Lerew craws here around Stillwater OK. they have always worked well and people over look because of marketing they are the bestcraws in my opinion to much hype on New But that's Marketing . Thanks for what you do Keep it up
I remember as kids, before the millions of different creature baits, me and Timmy Horton were shoving those things up into old school (gitzits) tubes to make fatter craws with lots tentacles. Worked great then.
Hey Randy great video I still use a couple packs of that I got left of the bass Magic crawdads that actually have a picture of you on the back of the package when you sponsored by Lucky Strike
Wow. I just got 1 pack of these bass magic fighting craws in a full luggage bag I bought for $50 that had what I figured at around $12-1400 of tackle when new. A buddy bought a storage unit for $500 that was full of lucky strike bait about 12 years ago and made $4,000 and gave tons away like he basically did for me
Randy, I enjoy your videos. Short and simple......and you cover great topics. Thanks! Quick question. I saw that you rigged up that black craw with the chartreuse claws backwards on that jig. I sometimes would have a debate with a fishing buddy about rigging plastics. Could you have rigged it the other way with expectations of similar results? Hope this makes sense.
I am not Randy but take into consideration the desired effect you are trying to gain. Swapping ends will change Fall Rate, Glide Slope, Ability to slip through on different grasses, and also bottom bait posture: Craw appears unaware and defenseless = Easy Snack or Defensive posture = possible reaction or antagonized instigated strike
Been watching your videos for a while now, Any tips for Catching down in South Texas . Been fishing the San Antonio River (murky water) been fishing daily just cant catch a bite. any tips? Thanks for the content!
I used to have similar craws in black and blue and brown and orange back in the 80s. I think Zoom made them. I never caught anything on them because I did not know what I was doing. I'm still not good at using soft plastics.
I agree with bass wanting a certain profile I've thrown a skirted twin tail grub and caught bass and had a same color size jig with a twin tail trailer and didn't get bit ! Crazy that bass notice suttel differences wonder why we got so much soft plastics with us ! Even in my lunch bag ! LOL !
I just bought "salty craws" that I bought from a local bait shop. I have seen them in several "local" bait/tackle shops. No brand name just plain zip locks. I bought them because of there realisticish look and size. Thought they would be good for flipping texas or shaky. Btw they were 2$ for 10.
My opinion isn’t worth much.... If you’re going to keep everything you catch, minimizing injury to the fish isn’t something to worry about. I consider it a good day if I catch even one.
I have a tackle box full of craws that i bought back in the early 80s and another box full of lizards they still produce fish all the time for me, just like the old west coast green wienies I have 2 boxes filled with old school green wienies and they work as good as they always did.
Gene larew and original salt craw is the only ones I bye today , and another that was a changer was the hibbdon craw that you can't find anymore . I've still got some but Ole gene larew was it long before Yamamoto came along . Something else that was a game changer back in the day that was bought out and done away with was bulldog lures , there first gamagatsu use jigs and spinner baits was the best ever nothing compares today , miss the old school . Another that was out for a while that I caught a shit load of bass on was the bill dance eel , the one that looked like a tad pole with a bill , good times before bass fishing got super popular and everyone had a boat in the garage and rude ass tournament anglers would cut you off just because they were in a tournament .
Hey Randy I bet ya that old school craw you were holding up was a Gene larew salty craw . come on tell me if I'm right . God bless you and your family your pal fisherman Mike
I have a box of salt craws. How dare you spread the word. I can’t find some of my favorite colors but that’s what color pens are for. Really enjoy your videos.
Please don’t try to explain it, the less we talk it about it, the better secret it remains. I keep telling everyone “Have you heard about the newest thing that is being leaked out and was a pro secret last year and was the key to multiple wins and numerous top tens on the circuit?”
Comparing the zoom lil craw to the older salt craw you show?...I have an extremely hard time in believing that bass see that difference. Comparing to say a rage tail or z craw yes absolutely.
My brother catch bass on hollow body frogs with a $20 walmart medium rod with 20 pound braid on a kastking $45 reel ....alot of the bass fishing industry iis about money
Love the old Gene Larew salt craws, have a bunch still
Gene larew craws still out catch any craw I've seen on any creek hands down
Pumpkin seed body with orange pinchers
Love the tips especially about breaking up the salt in the plastics. Really helped me out on the tubes and flukes. For me Zoom speed craw is great. I trim the curl off the claws so they are just flat. Fish them weightless in 2-3 foot deep creeks.
I've been waiting on this for years. You're amazing man. Thank goodness for Johnny and Fish The Moment contacting you which led me here
Your Channel is really good. We fish the same lakes so I use your tips a great deal. Please dont mention that god awful winter storm again. All my pipes froze & I just got indoor plumbing a month ago. keep the tips coming. The show is great.
Hello from St. Louis, your channel is becoming one of my favorites. Very well explained. Great tips .
I remember the old salt craws, I also remember when the Guido bug came out, boy I thought I was something with that bait! :)
Got a couple 3700 boxes full of old school craws & still use em, they’re still useful as any old baits are, Those ole bass don’t remember the good ole stuff!! Thanx for the great tips!
Like your videos maybe I can give you a tip try fishing a lizard on a Carolina rig and use a thin wire hook. Old Fisher man
Thanks for sharing. Sometimes, new tackle or techniques still can't beat some of the classic ones.
That is the best night time flipping bait ever made. It's a profile deal like a beaver. Dude you've been giving some juice lately.
Yes it is , I have used Gene larew for 25 yrs on a 1oz1/2 jig and Tx rig 3/4 oz . Year round but in the dead of winter and summer are the deadliest all day . You will catch your bass of a life time . I used that craw on my jigs when there was nothing but pork frogs , it was the first plastic trailer we used and it works
Bass are still bass no matter how much new stuff comes out! Thanks Randy! 👍
Thank you so much for the video. Craws are my favorite. I'm going to look for these style craws. I hope you are staying warm. 7 degrees here in Little town Oklahoma.
Yep, 7 degrees here also on Table Rock.... But a balmy high tomorrow of around 2 or so.... :-(
Randy your a smart fisherman learned a lot from you God Bless see you on the next one
My dad used to always talk about fishing with a Stanley craw. Back in mid 80s. Blk with red pinchers.
Great tips Randy. Thanks again from Western Kentucky. 🥶
Great video. I used to use those all the time. Great lures. I'll have to dig my box of them back out. Thanks
I still use Guido Bugs and Hale's craw worms. Like you Zoom chunks get the most use but the old ones still work.
Going to have to order some! Thank you for the tips!
Yes I have some and used last spring
V and M makes a nice craw jig trailer , it’s kind of thin and flat like a Zoom super chunk , but there is claws on it
Nice to hear they are still producers! Are you going to blow my mind by still using the old mister twister worms?
I do... 6" phenom is a killer...flipped under docks.... with anise scent...
Great tips! Thanks for sharing
Wow! I had forgotten about those.
I'm a big Zoom fan! My favorite is the ultra-speed craw!
I'm a new sub...I'd love to see you do a video on the ultra speed! I've used it for jigs, texas rig, carolina rig..ect.!
I dig your approach 👌
Randy, you speak my old school lure language that I relate so well to. I enjoy learning from each of your posts and being inspired to stay with these classics. I haven't used those since high school. I know iv'e got ten bags from 30 years ago. Guess I'll digg'em out!
So Randy I really enjoy your teachings. I still fish the Gene Lerew craws here around Stillwater OK. they have always worked well and people over look because of marketing they are the bestcraws in my opinion to much hype on New But that's Marketing . Thanks for what you do Keep it up
I always have Zoom critter craws, big and lil. Simple clean craw profile.
I watch your video every day. Would you illustrate he say you fish each lure. Keep up the great informative videos.
I have some old salty craws!!! I love “Just The Tip”!!!!
Own a bunch of the old school craws but keep using the "rage tail" style floppy claw ones , I'm a sucker for vibration
larew salt craws and ring worms caught fish in the 80's and still catch them now
I still toss the old ring worm... they work
I neko rig the gene larew salt craws. It’s a killer!
I remember as kids, before the millions of different creature baits, me and Timmy Horton were shoving those things up into old school (gitzits) tubes to make fatter craws with lots tentacles. Worked great then.

Arkie makes a little craw that makes a great finesse jig trailer
Go on line and try to find some just looked yesterday hardy any available
Zoom makes a Road Kill Craw and Magnum road kill craw. Seem to run small batches and just a couple colors.
I used to have similar craws in black and blue and brown and orange back in the 80s. I think Zoom made them. I never caught anything on them because I did not know what I was doing. I'm still not good at using soft plastics.
We caught a lot of Smallies on the Mississippi with the Guido Bug. Old school still gets it done
LOL !
Randy, do you ever thread your craws on to the hook so as to make the claws stick up into a crawdads defensive type position? Curious?
In Wisconsin we call that a heat wave
Does the weight color matter or do you always use green? Great video series Randy. Keep them coming.
I just bought "salty craws" that I bought from a local bait shop. I have seen them in several "local" bait/tackle shops. No brand name just plain zip locks. I bought them because of there realisticish look and size. Thought they would be good for flipping texas or shaky. Btw they were 2$ for 10.
I still use the gene larew salt craw in the junebug bubble gum color. Still works just fine
Thanks for the input. I will tell all my friends In Mexico now
It's same out here. Cold......
Gold right there!
-29 here tonight not including wind chill...........anyway, lets talk about summer fishing!
Hey, what's your opinion on barbless hooks for hardbaits? And what about changing trebles for singe hooks? Of course not for tournament fishing. :)
My opinion isn’t worth much.... If you’re going to keep everything you catch, minimizing injury to the fish isn’t something to worry about. I consider it a good day if I catch even one.
Do you believe a craw with less action is better in cold water and one with more flapping action in warmer?
I have a tackle box full of craws that i bought back in the early 80s and another box full of lizards they still produce fish all the time for me, just like the old west coast green wienies I have 2 boxes filled with old school green wienies and they work as good as they always did.
Old Gene Larew salt craw. Back in the day you would pair that with a Stanley jig.
I remember carving dried up pork rind off my hooks all the time when I was a little kid.
Wave Worm Tiki Craw is my goto for smallmouth
Gene larew and original salt craw is the only ones I bye today , and another that was a changer was the hibbdon craw that you can't find anymore . Yup zoom was number one in 80 -90s
wow i still use them rig them texas just like you and put them on a jig as a trailer also i must be a old guy because i also use lizards !!!
The Larew Salt Craw is still out there, and Zoom still makes a craw worm
Hey Randy I bet ya that old school craw you were holding up was a Gene larew salty craw . come on tell me if I'm right . God bless you and your family your pal fisherman Mike
It's hard to be a Jig & Craw in the Submerged Timber. It attracts the Biggins.
I have a box of salt craws. How dare you spread the word. I can’t find some of my favorite colors but that’s what color pens are for. Really enjoy your videos.
The bad thing it seems like nobody makes them and can’t find them anymore.
OG Gambler Guido Original!
I still use the old salty craw from the 80s
Been using Gene Lerew Salt Craws for years
R.I.P. Mr. Blaukat.
Guido bug!!!
Brrr 🥶
Gene LaRue caught a lot of fish on them
😎H🤓e🤠l😝l😌o 😄
Looks like a Lerew
Would you comment on keeping plastics in a box? Some swear by that, some swear at it.
Gene larew craws are the best
Gene larew saltvcraws
Why have we gotten away from baits like the split shot lizard for a drop shot? I can not explain it?
Please don’t try to explain it, the less we talk it about it, the better secret it remains. I keep telling everyone “Have you heard about the newest thing that is being leaked out and was a pro secret last year and was the key to multiple wins and numerous top tens on the circuit?”
Randy Anybody make any real pork bait trailers (Uncle Josh #11 black and blue )?
It don't get anymore old school than that.
Eat more Pork!
Gene Lareu
Comparing the zoom lil craw to the older salt craw you show?...I have an extremely hard time in believing that bass see that difference.
Comparing to say a rage tail or z craw yes absolutely.
Im with you tbh. Those two were very similar.
There is more nuanced differences between the two as in density, buoyancy, salt content, and flexibility= breathability
My brother catch bass on hollow body frogs with a $20 walmart medium rod with 20 pound braid on a kastking $45 reel ....alot of the bass fishing industry iis about money
Every industry, caters to a full spectrum of budgets. From phones to hotel rooms, cars to restaurants!
That's the World we live in!
Old gene larew
too many adds man hard to watch
Gene LaRue salt craw...
