Thank you! This is a great idea! After hurting my back and arm trying to cut my 8x10 area rug in half (for disposal) carpet with a jigsaw, this tool easily did the trick. I have a Dremel brand and would not have thought to use it for this task. Very much appreciated. Just ignore the haters with negative comments on here. Seriously people, must there be a fight about the right way to do everything? I could not care less about “saving” my carpet. I just wanted it to easily fit in my car for disposal. And save frustration and back pain.
The attachment is called a Wood Flush Cut Blade wood flush cut blade. Dremel just calls theirs a multi-purpose tool. Harbor freight refers to it as an oscillating multi tool.
Anthony Gates Thanks for the info and response. I appreciate it. I have also used it for exactly what you said, cutting molding at the bottom when I was putting in hardwood floors (hence taking out the carpet), as well as for cutting out outlets when installing drywall. I thought of this as a pretty unique you so I wanted to share it.
+Anthony Gates agree, thanks.
Anthony Gates it worked well for my purposes. I used utility knives in the past. If I planned to keep it then it would be a different story for sure.
Thank you soooooooo much!!! I had to remove carpet that had been installed UNDER the wall. I tried carpet knives, an electric edge cutter, scissors, hedge clippers, utility knives, a loop pile cutter. I even bought a reciprocating saw!!! Then I saw your RUclips video.... I am now in "carpet under the drywall removal"" heaven. AND, there was linoleum also under the wall next to the laundry room. Your video saved me time and energy! (I wish I had seen it before I spent all of that money, energy and time.) Thank you again for sharing.
Glad to help. Some people didn't like this video, but I did it for people like me who want a unique idea.
@@SeanDIY Don't pay them any mind. This video is helpful to a lot of people including me. (They're just bitter they didn't think of this and struggled to do the job with a knife! LOL!)
I was surprised how easy it was so wanted to share. Many appreciated it and some don't which is OK.
Wow why so many HATERS?? I have torn tendons in both hands and what an amazing way to tear out my old carpet!!!!! I was completely stranded and now I can do it myself!
Tx a million!
So glad. It's for people like you that I did this video. I figured if I thought it was clever others would too. I never said it's the only way or best way. I said it was an easy way. Glad it helped.
i dont understand the hate either. I needed to trim about an inch around my bedroom so i could put in new baseboard and carpet was going to be tossed but just not at this time. this by far is way easier than dragging my knuckle along the wall with utility knife.
@@bseant420 It is cause he claims it is the best tool and it isn't. Not as straight of a cut, maybe good for people with joint issues or w/e but it's not the best tool for almost any1
It may not be the best, but it's great.
THANK YOU! I spent over an hour removing a narrow section of carpet in an RV with a brand new utility knife. Because the carpet ran under the cabinets, a clean cut at the edge of the cabinets was necessary. It was an impossible, thankless task. I will be completing the job with the oscillating multitool that we already own. I wish I had seen this before I waded in, I have a lot of edging to do. Fortunately this should make it so much easier.
So glad this was helpful.
I've had that exact saw for years, never had a reason to use it. Just bought a rug that needed cutting and saw this. Thank you!!! Not only did you give a good reason to buy the saw, but you gave me an excellent reason to use it. Mucho appreciated!
I'm glad to help. Not everyone appreciates the idea, but for people like you, it makes me happy that it helped.
What a great idea. It will save joint and muscle pain.
I'm going to try the straight edge blade and the half circle blade to see which one works best on the carpet with the oscillating cutting tool. My model is a Rockwell which offered good amperage.
Thanks everyone for your tips. It makes work more enjoyable employing good shortcuts
I'm glad you appreciate this. Definitely let me know which you prefer. I didn't try the circle one but I'm thinking that could wok too.
OMG THAT'S AMAZING!!! This will help me soooo much this weekend!! THANK YOU!!
So glad to help! You are one of the people this video was created for. Happy tou find it helpful.
Thank you, so helpful, glad I watched it before cutting, perfect for my job.
I'm afraid I made a mess of my small job, but this maybe because of inexperience or being clumsy!
Anthony Faulkner Thank you. I did this for people who it would be helpful for. I'm glad it worked for you.
Perfect! Your oscillating tool tut was exactly what I needed! THANKS!
Glad I was able to help!
Thanks for the tip. I like that you get right to the point. Very much appreciated.
Glad to help. Did you try tbis?
Yep..... Worked great with a Fein with a knife attachment
Thanks
👍👌💯
Cool Beans!!!! Awesome tool attachment...thank you for taking the time to share. 👍👍
You are welcome. I'm glad you found the oscillating tool from Harbor Freight a good use for cutting carpet. I thought I was on to something and people like you make me glad I shared it.
i have one of theses i mostly use for sanding and scraping... never thought about using it to cut carpet.. i'm a decorator and of course if the client is changing the carpet i tend to cut to around the trim, can be hard work with a knife, i'll have to try it next time, i was going go buy one of those carpet cutters.
Thanks for watching. I'm glad you found it helpful. I agree with you that these kind of things can be fun and helpful. I do these videos for people like you. I appreciate the feedback.
@@SeanDIY Yeah, if the carpet is being replaced it doesn't matter how it's cut, might be different if they want to use it somewhere else or do a repair job but then you hire someone to do it properly. Next time i need to cut round the skirts, or slice one up for a skip i'm gonna try this.
This is amazing. Thanks.
Your welcome. Not everyone agreed with this, but I shared because I thought people like you would benefit. I'm glad it helped.
You’re a God send. I’m installing carpet today with a Kryptonite backer.
I'm always here to help!
Use a utility knife or you will make a costly mess.
God bless
Oh man! That is fantastic. I’m pulling out some old carpet, and I want to cut it in pieces to make it easier to remove. Also, I’ve moved furniture to one side of the room, so I can’t just roll up the carpet. I tried cutting it with a razor knife, but it was hit and miss and wore me out. I have that exact same tool from Harbor Freight and I’ll be breaking it out. Thanks a million for sharing.
Thanks for watching. I'm glad this tool worked for you. Not everyone is a fan but enough people are which makes me happy.
Thank you for your advice much appreciated
Glad it helped.
YES! Aching arms from trying to cue with a utility knife. Have one of these. Can't wait to try it. Loads more carpet to cut. Many thanks.
Awesome. I've used this technique a number of times since.
Sean, thanks so much for this helpful tip!
I'm glad to help Glen. I feel like I am some part Macgyver, so I like to share my subtle tips where I can.
@@SeanDIY Your down-to-earth narration of what I find especially cool. Like your MacGyver analogy! lol
Thank you mate!!
I'm glad to help. It cut the carpet really easily and I was able to bundle it up and throw it away simply.
Thanks dude!
🤘🏻😃
Glad you enjoyed this.
THANK YOU !! We just started renovating a house a few months ago and it’s a house full of carpet 😂this is a fantastic tip. We were using a manual carpet cutting tool 😫
So glad it helps. Thanks for watching the video, I appreciate it and best wishes with the home remodeling.
@@SeanDIY what is the name of the tool, I must have missed it or didn't really hear the name please???
@@ladyc8581 oscillating tool or Dremel as the name brand.
We are cutting carpet and pad to cut an access door in the floor of our boat. Would this work if we are replacing the carpet and pad back?
I'd be careful in that case. It was a rough cut.
Thanks for demo.
You are welcome. We moved and I cut out the old carpet in our new house the same way. It works 💪
Thank you very much!!!
+BESTEVAAR Your welcome. Have you had a chance to try it yet?
I am going to try it this weekend! Thanks again!
No not yet! I am going soon though! Thank you again!
Great tip, and perfect timing for me, I'm replacing my carpet
Cool. Let me know how it goes.
@@SeanDIY did not work for me, mine is battery-operated and maybe just does not have enough power to do the job. I tried three different blades
@@BigBlok502 that may be the issue. The electric one has plenty of power.
Thank you.
So glad to help. Let me know how it goes
Good stuff
Thanks
I'm about to use the same technique at my new house! More caroer removal and new hard wood flooring.
Thank you!!
Good. Were you able to try this out yourself.
@@SeanDIY Yes! It was a life saver with an in its day high quality berber carpet. A whole house cleared out thanks to you!!
thanks
Got one at Harbor Freight on sale for $10 !!! after seeing this vid and god dam that thing cuts thru thick carpet like warm butter. Amazing.
I still use it on carpet. It's so easy. Glad this helped. At $10 I'd buy a few of them.
@@SeanDIY you're right I better go get more if they still got em for that price ...I couldn't believe it
YOU WEREN’T KIDDING!!! I just used mine, and it sliced through my carpet like butter!! And the blade I had was dull!!
Thanks again Bud!!
Happy to help. Some people hated it, but I'd do it again.
Really?? Nothing to hate! It runs straight through the carpet. I don’t even know you, but I’m co-signing. It really works!!
I only wish I viewed this video sooner, when I first started doing my flooring. We had wall-to-wall carpeting throughout the house. Do you know how much of a royal pain it was to use a plain ole utility knife to cut carpet?? Not only that, removing it to put it to the road??
This method makes it easy to cut the carpeting into 2-3 foot strips. Roll them up, and done!
Well i got my carpet out by rolling it up in awkward mess manhandled it outside now to try using that oscillating saw I have same one from harbor freight to cut it up in pieces to throw away in my trash barrel when I get home tonight from work looks like it will work wonders
How did it all work out?
Cool and my dad bought one before he passed thanks dad
Sorry for your loss. Thanks for watching the video. Did your dad buy the Dremel brand or Harbor Freight?
I have the tool, I I need to replace some carpet, perfect timing!
Hope it works well for you. Let me know how it works on your carpet.
Helpful.
I'm glad to help. Have you tried it yet?
Will it cut berber carpet well?
I can't see why not.
It was invented by a Dr. to remove a cast without harming the skin.
That's cool information. Thanks for sharing.
How come HD didn't show me that
I'm not sure many people have thought of it.
Make sure you use the blade that isn't for metal. The HCS blade (i guess thats the wood blade) works better :-)
(Add on note - HCS is High Carbon Steel. See if you have one that says "wood", or go buy one. I bet the one that says "Wood" will REALLT cut well)
I tried the same setup, but it wasn't working for me. So I bought a round style blade... it worked okay, but when I got to a corner (where carpet went under cabinet), I went to switch back to the straight blade.
Thats when I noticed that it said "Metal".... I switched to the other straight blade from my multi-tool, and it says "HCS"... I doubt C is really "carpet" but the HCS blade works way better than the metal blade. If you look close at them, the metal blade has shorter teeth like you'd expect...
But I like the tip of using the multi tool. Because most of the carpet im removing was kinda walled over or "furnitured" over. So there's no "carpet strip" to "simply" pull the carpet from.
The oscillating multi tool helps a lot when using the non-metal blade
Great advice. I haven't used a metal one yet, so mine is wood.
@@SeanDIY awesome - I'm going to get one that says "wood" on it. My dad was a metallurgical engineer and told me the HCS was High Carbon Steel, and then I realized "so there MIGHT be one that straight up says "wood", and I just saw one one the hardware stores website.
Thanks!!
Hope that's the old carpet!!!??? Lol
It was. I was taking it out to put in hardwood floors. Definitely wouldn't work if you were putting the carpet back down, but it was.easy for removal.
You put your finger on the blade while it was plugged in 😱
...and I still have all 10 fingers! Thanks for watching.
I believe in Vince Vaughn 100%
Thanks for commenting. Not sure I understood your point though.
I tried that method, but it was too slow...pulled out the sawzaw and it ripped it way quicker!
Not a bad idea.
Its a Fine
Thank you. I'm glad you liked it.
Now I need to find that tool.
Annette Bowdre You can get one at Harbor Freight for around $25, I believe. Dremel makes a similar one, but this one is less expensive.
i was just about to waste a bunch of time with a utility knife. thank goodness for autoplay.
I'm glad you got to see it.
the knife is WAY FASTER!
They are called oscillating saws
Correct. Thanks.
I work for IATSE7 if I cut carpet like that they would send me home and suggest a mental evaluation before I came back🤣🤣🤣
I get it. This helped some and made others laugh. I didn't have a utility knife with me and this worked well.
if the carpet is being replaced and thrown in a skip/dump does it matter how it's cut?
I was throwing it away, so I don't think it matters at all. I cut then ripped as I went. Whichever is easier.
i been doing carpet for 20 years where have this tool been all this time , I could do many more hours and make thousands if not millions of dollar of overtime 😂😂😂🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
That would be great. I'm glad I could help you make more money.
I use an angle grinder w one hand. 😊
Great tip!
A Razor works well too lol😅
Sure but this is pretty easy.
Stanley blade
I usually get my blades from Harbor Freight because it's more economical.
Multi tool
Thanks, I'm here trying to find a good enough pair of scissors to cut up some old carpet and I never thought of using the multitool I have in the shed. I'll give it a go!
How did it go?
@@SeanDIY It worked like a charm. Thank you.
I would have liked to hear Whitney Houston sing this song . R.I.P.
Sorry wrong place !
Ok, got it. I was wondering what song I had on there. LOL.
Omg are you serious?????lmfao!!!
+Jason Pierce worked like a charm. I had to remove an entire house of carpet and it was great.
I guess knifes weren't invented at this period of time 🤷
Yup, the oscillating tool was invented before knives were.
Buy a tripod.
Done.
More like how to destroy carpet in the fastest way. If you're doing a repair and used this thing good luck ever being able to re-seam where your cut point is. If you're doing a tear out just use a carpet knife, it is so much faster than this ever could be and makes way less of a mess because it doesn't throw carpet fibers everywhere as long as you're using a sharp blade.
Did you stop to think that maybe the video was for people who wanted to replace their flooring???
IT'S NOT A CARPET REPAIR VIDEO, LK MOTO MORON!
It’s too bad you can’t remember the name of the tool, because the harbor freight link no longer works.
Thank you for watching the video. Here is the tool: www.harborfreight.com/2-amp-variable-speed-oscillating-multi-tool-63113.html.
@@SeanDIY Thanks!
Glad to help. If you get one, let me know if you like it.
a razor knife is even easier! whats with people doing things the hard way?
It wasn't hard at all and it didn't lose its sharpness. It was what I had, it worked and I shared. If your knife gets dull this is another way to do it.
Can be used for trimming unwanted hair too! 😂😂😂
I bet he uses a fork to eat soup! 😂🤣
Xi Khan you drink soup, you don't eat it. Who wants to "eat" soup anyway when there is real food out there?
I cant believe what I'm seeing, why ? Lol knife cuts it in seconds
Some like it, some don't. It is what it is.
Liam Ward or whatever you are: no.
Do you arrive at your jobs on a horse
Generally an ostrich, or if he is tired I'll take the potbelly pig.
That was funny!!
Glad you liked it.
You butcher ! !!!
+Nick Kent Thank you! I put in hardwoods, so I was throwing it away. It worked well for me.
Dude why you destroy a perfectly good carpet?
To install hardwood flooring.
Y not just use a carpet knife or utility knife lol
Dakota Davis You could, but I've done that and found this requires a lot less effort .
Sean Moran you just don't know how to cut carpet
I have used carpet knives in the past. At the time I was cutting carpet I didn't have one. I used what I had and it worked. I thought others might find it useful and many did. I appreciate your comment, thanks for viewing.
😂😂😂😂
Thanks for watching the video. I appreciate it.
The song was "All by Myself "they were comparing the singers ugh !!!
❤️ its a Saws-All. Thank you my friend. Why didnt I think of that!
Glad to help

Lmfao..a fresh stanley blade also cuts like butter..and doesnt destroy your new carpet
Scott Jay I was disposing of the carpet, so it didn't matter to me.
maybe so but your encouraging a ridiculous method thats going to trash somes new carpet..just seems stupid and funny to me..a blades just so much faster, accurate and neater
hardly the "easiest" method..i hope you realise any professionals are goin to keep mocking this vid lol
Scott Jay I get it. I never said it was professional, mostly just an alternative method. I like to McGyver some things and this was easy and worked for me. If it helps others, then all the better in my mind.
@@Highfocus89 if the client is having a new carpet it doesn't really matter how you cut it, how straight your lines are, how messy it is.. it get cut, rolled up and dumped... you're not going to re-use it are you.
Sorry what a load of rubbish, iv being fitting carpets for 28 year , the only way to cut carpet, and earn a living is to use a knife lol.
I appreciate the comment. It works and the tool is useful in so many ways. Just thought of something creative and wanted to share it with others. I'd expect a pro knows all the best ways, but this is an alternative.
I use 1 of these to cut the door jams out for laminate flooring , they are a wonderful tool ,if you have the time I suppose it saves on cutting yourself with a knife lol .
It was one of those things where a lightbulb went on as I tried to McGyver my project and thought others might be interested as well.
Well, after spending an hoir trying to remove nasty carpet with a utility knife and brand new blades I will definitely be trying this method!
I am glad you found it helpful. I knew it would be something others would benefit from.
Oh my..what a terrible idea. This goes back to that old saying just because it's easier doesn't mean it's right.theres a reason carpet installers don't use a jamb saw.You need accurate fine cuts that only a very sharp blade can give, especially on seams.
....but not if you are throwing the carpet in a dumpster.
He was demoing the carpet, not installing it.
Correct. If you are installing carpet you need to be precise. Demolition not so much. I appreciate you watching and commenting.
That a horrible cut
The join has to disappear
I was throwing the carpet away, so no concern for what it would look like later.
Robert Quinteros CARPET'S BEING THROWN AWAY obviously...who saves old carpet? Geez. I think your Self Suffocation Device is doing what it's supposed to do: cut oxygen to your brain by 50%. Be careful not to get a virus you have a 99%+ chance of surviving.
Useless, carpet knife works 10 times faster.
Unfortunately I didnt have a useless carpet knife. This worked well. Thanks for watching.
Robert Latter It doesnt.
What a load of crap
Well, as I've said before, it works. Some like it, others don't.
Exactly, the carpet was a load of crap he was removing, what is wrong with fast and easy to get the load of crap out? Do you do precision demo?
Worst tool ever to cut a carpet with , nothing is more easier than a Stanley knife blade or a bladed cutter, why complicate a simple good enough procedure 👎
Thanks for your opinion. I used a carpet knife in the past and it worked ok. I wanted to remove yhis carpet to put in hard wood floors and a carpet knife wasn't handy. Rather than leave the house and take 30-40 minutes going to the big box hardware store I improvised and thought others might like the same idea for cutting their carpet. Some like it, some don't. I appreciate your opinion.
@@SeanDIY hey thanks for your reply sorry I didn’t mean to sound horrible , yeh if that was the case then I’d even use a bread butter knife to cut the damn thing at do late in the night ... hell I’d even bite it with my teeth 🤣🤣👍👌🙏🏼😆 thanks again u should have just told me to shove my opinion up my jacksy lol 😂
I understand you are cutting back carpet to remove it. But if someone were to use this method to cut carpet and planned on having it seamed back together just guarantee yourself the ugliest seam that will never be able to properly be repaired.
+alan russell I agree. If I were going to seam it back together, I would have pulled at the seam. I was removing the carpet to put in hardwoods.
DUH, ALAN RUSSEL. It's not a pull the carpet up then put the carpet back video. It's to REMOVE carpet and THROW IT AWAY. That's what we're here for. You'll want to search specifically for your problem.
THIS THE DUMBEST WAY TO CUT CARPET. HONESTLY, FROM PROFESSIONAL CARPET INSTALLER WITH 15 YEARS OF EXPIRIENCE
I appreciate your honesty. I'm not saying it's the best or only way, just that it worked for me and others appreciated something different as well.
