    In this video I show the best tool for cutting carpet with ease.
    The tool is a top cutter or cushion back carpet cutter.
    There are many different names for it but I call it a top cutter.
    This tool I'm using is a Crain 301 top cutter that can be bought online or if you have a Home Depot near you, you can pick up a Roberts top cutter in the store.
    This is one of my favorite carpet tools to use when doing patches from pet damage at doorways or seams.
    It's also great for cutting carpet in hallways or doors when you need to re stretch carpet.
    And lastly it is a crucial tool to use when doing new carpet installation and seaming carpet together.

    Good insight per usual, Nick. I’m a fan of Taylor’s. The handle is at a 45 degree, and I find i have optimal control with it.

      Thanks Josh, I didn't even know Taylor tools made a top cutter!
      I think with some tools it really depends on personal preference
      and people should use what feels best for them.
      There are still a bunch of tools I'd love to try out!

    I like to use the other piece of carpet as a guide and just cut the first time instead of making a line. So easy to install hallways onto rooms this way

    Very informative. I wasn’t sure what to buy and was going to an electrical tool because I didn’t think that a tool like that would even work.. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽😊😊😘😘

    You can always run a row with the smooth in a plush and if you cant then you straight edge it.

    @FloorsbySouthernboys 4 года назад +2

    That was awesome, never attempted to cut one like that without it being in a row , Looks like it turned out well though

      Thanks Reuben, yeah with this super dense carpet it's frustrating to run rows.
      I use this method to do all my patch work and it works great!

    will this tool work well for cutting a shag rug, or do you have a different recommendation for that application?

    • @justsaygold
      @justsaygold  3 года назад

      I'm not too sure as I don't deal with shag rugs, but I think this tool would still work.

    I use a Roberts. I haven’t been tedious enough to use the left and right on it because the two blades being side by side stick. I just use it with one blade and apply gentle pressure to the left or right. But we both really suck at carpet. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

    Would this tool work for a very thick rug pad? I've tried a utility knife and a kitchen scissors. Neither one works

    • @justsaygold
      @justsaygold  2 года назад

      The carpet blades used with this tool are much sharper than a utility knife so it should cut it. You can also buy a carpet knife which looks like a utility knife but used carpet blades, just be careful as the carpet blades are very sharp.

    I just finished putting carpet in my basement. I used…. wait for it.. an Olfa knife with the snap blades. Carpet came out perfect with half the effort of that thing. Just saying.
